Secure your vehicle, take a deep breath and get ready for a short climbing hike. This hiking trail probably rates as a moderate as it is little more than a gravel and dirt access road to the top. It starts off with a pretty swift incline but as it starts to corkscrew around Nanny's Mountain, it levels off a bit. And before you know it, you're at the top. There is a right turn just before the summit There is a clearing at the top and a large shelter that seems to be set up as a meeting place with a lectern and three rows of seats facing it. There are a couple of trash cans and that's it. No power, no barbecue grill and definitely no restrooms. Be prepared for that. There's also not much of a view from the summit. As it's January, the trees are quite bare so I could see some of the curve of the lake, but that's it. Occasionally, a plane on its way in to CLT. But no view of the skyline or of the surrounding area. I kind of want a view as my reward for a hike/climb. Not one here. Still, it was a nice and peaceful walk. And remember, never hike alone! I thought it wouldn't be crowded and I was right. We saw three other people while we were there. It's a short greenway. It's only about a quarter of a mile long, so a half mile total to get back to your car. We parked at the back of the Home Depot parking lot. I'm not sure if you're supposed to but we didn't have any issues. Even though it's really short, it's a nice greenway that's almost completely shaded. It's located in the Rivergate Shopping Center. If you're in the area shopping, check it out and go for a quick walk!

I laughed so hard nearly the entire class. Arrive early and they will let you hold a baby or just pet little goats until class starts. Yoga class itself was not too serious- do what you can, stretch yourself to your own comfort level, and enjoy being in nature with baby goats. New Moon Flower Farm provided the baby goats and the yoga instructor was from Tega Cay. Kids participated too, and the energy of the young was infectious.

There are six large campsites with fire rings and grills, but there were other camping areas as well. We had enough people for this weekend of camping (about 200) that we rented the entire island. OMG! It was such a nice venue. There is a pavilion with an enclosed area for preparing food with kitchen, sinks, etc., along with many (I didn't count!) picnic tables on the cement slab under the covered area for serving dinner and for gatherings. There are also four actual large bathrooms which I wasn't expecting. We rented addtnl port-o-potties but we really didn't need them. Better safe than sorry! We had a DJ setup under the shelter and it became a stage with spectator area at night for entertainment. There is a nice sand volleyball court next to the pavilion if the island and lake don't offer enough entertainment and exercise. Don't miss out on the floating dock that goes out into the lake. We brought floats and hung out there during the day. There are two large parking areas at the head of the island, but plan to walk alot and carry your stuff a good distance. Beautiful spot for a picnic or family gathering. If it's like SC parks, you can probably get a yearly pass. It would be worth it if you live in the area. Only 10 minutes away from Fort Mill/Rock Hill too.

However, it's an easy/moderate trail with a smooth, natural surface. (The section under the high wires I would consider moderate). In cooler weather, deer can be spotted and there's a nice pond to look at (fishing prohibited). No services provided and surprisingly I see more patrols on this trail than any other I visit. I think it's a nice compliment to McDowell which is wooded and hilly. Give it a whirl.
