I'm a hardened chowhound, the kind of guy who's eaten enough questionable meals in enough questionable places to know the difference between real food and the kind of grease-slicked heartbreak they sling at certain fast-food counters. You know the type, where the cook is juggling a cigarette, a spatula, and what appears to be a deep philosophical relationship with his own nostrils while your breakfast slowly becomes a medical event. Ted's is not that place. The chicken club, hold the Thousand Island, thank you very much, is a beautiful, no-nonsense stack of poultry and bread that understands its job. They buy good steaks, real steaks, and cook them the way steaks were meant to be cooked: hot, fast, and with respect. Updating my review in response to the managers response: I escalated ALL of these to your staff. I even had to ask for a new cup when I told them the soda machine wasn't working, as they just said sorry and walked away. I showed the person who walked by us the eggs and she said "oh, I'm not sure" and walked away from the table. When our plates were taken away, I told them we had a very poor experience. The person said "one moment", walked away, and we wanted 20 more minutes for someone else to show up, but nobody did. read more

The food is good old fast casual diner food. I'm bummed that tipping is prompted before service is actually given. Order at the counter and then it's brought to the table. You get your own coffee, and that's okay. But you're prompted to tip when standing there just having ordered. It really creates an awkward social interaction with being watched selecting the tip option. I'll tip at the table when done, but not at the counter just having ordered. Located next to Chase, in the Whole Foods Aliso village plaza. Lots of free parking. Lady taking our order was not a happy friendly person, just there to do the job. Got the cheeseburger, mushroom and bacon omelet, pastrami burger. Never had a cheeseburger fail but this place did it. It was bland, not flavorful, not special. The patty didn't look or taste charred. Basically a waste of calories. When I save my calories for a burger, I'd like to drool over it and eat it so fast that I crave more. Diner style. Staff: The customer service here was okay. At the drive thru I attempted to place a simple order of two 1/3 pound burger combos. The lady taking our order was confused. Not sure why. I asked for a 1/3 burger and to make it a combo. She confirmed and I said I wanted two of this same order. The lady then asked how many we wanted. Once she was done I had to ask her to repeat since I felt the need due to her confusion. Pulled up to a frosted window that was closed and waited what felt like an eternity. No movement, unable to see inside, then finally the window opener and I paid. After paying the window closed again and we waited again. Eventually they returned and a young man handed us our order. The frosted window needs to go. Quality/Quantity: The fries were good but needed salt. The burger was tasty enough but could also use a bit of salt. Unfortunately, the patties were pink which is really unacceptable unless a customer asks. They are thin patties which looked more like a 1/4 lb vs 1/3 lb I ordered. Ended up putting them into the microwave at home to cook them even more. Drinks with a combo are small which is unusual. Value: I found it a bit expensive for the quality. 2 combos were $30. Overall: I've driven by several times and was curious but I am no longer curious. Maybe breakfast is better but after a big disappointment of lunch, I will not be returning. read more

Decided to stop by Teds place (great name!!) on my way back to Los Angeles. Glad I did. Staff was friendly, the young man who took my order was very polite and had great mannerism. The chicken fried breakfast ($19) was a 7.8/10. Eggs and hash browns were good but had to add salt to the hash browns. The hash browns were little mushy but overall good. Here's a story about the bump up in my rating for Ted's Place. My close friend had been telling me about how her husband liked Ted's Place. He wasn't eating the fish and chips I chose in a previous dine-in experience. He was happy eating other selections on their menu. Since word-of-mouth can be a convenient way to figure out where to go for a meal, I felt Ted's deserved another try. What I tried and really liked was their gyro plate. The plate included a lot of french fries and a big salad. When the fries taste really good, I sometimes eat so much of them that the entree is barely touched. I powered through, eating some of the gyro, and the effort was definitely worth it. The gyro and the sauce provided were a delicious dinner and I got a to-go box at the end of dinner. I purchased a mint tea, which was piping hot and once cooled down, felt like a nice complement to the meal. Employees here are all nice. The booths and tables are comfortable and clean. After eating here again, it makes a lot of sense that Ted's Place has been in Laguna Niguel for a long time. read more

First off it is beyond a blessing to be back home. I recently moved back to the Laguna Niguel area. I stopped by Ted's Place for lunch. I ordered the double chili burger and fries. The burger was amazing. Tommy's you're lucky that you are located on the other side of town. The double chili burger is way better than yours. The service was great. The counter person was very attentive when I placed my order. The ambiance has not changed since. You still get that feeling like you're walking in to a roadside diner. No pictures this time....phone died. The inside of the restaurant was relatively clean. There were quite a few tables with dishes that were probably there for a little bit. But overall okay. Service was good, nothing spectacular but they were friendly. Ordered a cheeseburger with fries and a normal 1/3 burger They both looked appetizing wrapped up good fresh cut lettuce and tomato Once the wrapping was removed, buns were a little burnt and hard. Meat was a bit dry. Couldn't get an overall flavor due to the bun but I think it was still a bit tasty. Fries were really good though. May give them another try. There are a lot of options to order. YES! Stop and eat here! I've driven past Ted's Place at lease 100 times. Finally stopped in the drive thru for a breakfast burrito. Graciella took my order and told me about how amazing their entire menu was. She recommended I try their Mediterranean salad. She was so convincing, I ordered it to go and planned to have it for lunch. WOW. Not only was the breakfast burrito the best I've had since I can remember, these salads are so delicious and absolutely enormous! Brought wifey back today and we ate on the patio. Graciella is here again and she helped us choose our orders. - she's been here 25 years! The quality of food here is FAR superior to what I expected from a small "mom and pop" drive thru. The portions are MASSIVE. I bet you can't finish a whole salad in one sitting! We'll be back until we can try everything on this delicious menu. I've been here before, about 3 years ago in 2022 and had a positive experience. I met the owner's daughter, she was nice, the food was good, everything was great. Fast forward to 2025, this place is awful. I placed an order through an app called TooGoodToGo for pickup at Ted's. When I arrived, there were literally ZERO customers in the drive thru or inside the restaurant, but they refused to serve me at the drive thru and said I had to come inside. That was odd, but okay. So I go inside, go to the register, there were about 5-7 employees all standing around just 3-5 feet from me and not one of them would even look at me. I stood there being ignored, while they were just laughing and joking with each other for 15 minutes!!! It was crazy. Finally, one asked if I needed anything and I told him I was there to pick up an order that was supposed to be ready at 8:30. I arrived at 8:30, now it was 8:45 and the order was apparently not ready. 5-7 minutes later someone comes out with a bag and a to go box with what appears to be some mess they dug out of the garbage. I couldn't even make out what it was. Some old, stinky, cold meat? I honestly don't know. Look at the pictures and see if you can tell. This was absolutely disgusting, I will never go back. This place is insanely overpriced, the staff is completely awful, lazy, and rude, and the food will literally make you sick. I came here about a week ago for the first time and I have to say that I was not impressed. The employee at the drive thru seemed confused with my order, which was very simple with no modifications. The fries were fresh and pretty good but the hamburger was just mediocre. It was undercooked and under seasoned. My family has been loyal patrons of Ted's Place for about 30 years, and it was my (now adult) children's favorite place to eat. Back in the day, Ted himself would great us by name; it felt like family. If you're looking for a family-style restaurant, Ted's Place is THE PLACE. The portions are so large you can share your meal, almost a BOGO deal! The pancakes are the size of a large plate... and you can get breakfast all day or even for dinner. One of the best offerings at Ted's Place is their large three-piece fried white fish and chips. No frozen and soggy fish and undercooked fries. And, you don't have to wait until Friday night for the BEST fish and chips in Southern California! I must say I was very impressed at the customer service I experienced here. Never been to Ted's as we don't have one by me but this place was great! Griselda was very welcoming and the breakfast tacos were to die for (HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE BAD BOYS!) overall it was a nice quiet restaurant that felt like it had history behind it. Definitely had my concerns when I read a recent review from from some guy named Glen but after my experience I'm pretty sure he's a single lonely man who hasn't been laid in at least 18 years. The manager Paris was cute AF too she was checking in with Griselda to make sure she was fully stocked on coffee filters or something. 10/10 would would get breakfast tacos again those things hit hard I wish there was one of these closer to my neck of the woods! read more

Sad Today was a grill cheese sandwich order thru the drive through. Bread was burnt and dry, although cheese slices not melted. I used to like Ted's, but the last 5 years or so, the service at the drive through has gotten quite spicy/arrogant. They tend to make you feel like you're annoying them a bit, and they're doing you a big favor for serving you. When you arrive at the pickup window, there's no "hello", no order review, and no "thank you for your business". They take your money, hand you your order, and kick you in the backside to move along. I was there recently and ordered a burrito. I specifically asked for no avocado, the clerk appeared to understand my order, and I even clarified it once more when I was at the order speaker. When I got home, it had tons of avocado! I wouldn't have been so disappointed as I was, but this has happened 2 of the last 4 time's I've used the drive through. This place is horrendously awful. The prices are INSANE for such bland, poorly prepared food. It's over $7 for an order of soggy tasteless fries, and they charge extra for ranch. (TIP: Some kind of sauce will be necessary to make them edible, otherwise you're eating tepid soggy cardboard.) The burgers are pitiful, and Carls Jr. or Burger King will give you a more flavorful, more filling burger for less money. The patties here are even thinner than a standard McDonald's beef patty, and they are without even a modicum of flavor. The meat tastes how it looks: gray. How does something "taste gray", you ask? I don't know, but the rip off artists at Ted's have figured out how to make a repulsively unappetizing double cheeseburger that has less meat than a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, much less than a quarter of the flavor, but Ted's will still charge you +$12 for the greasy flavorless mess. And the service is awful as well. The last time I went I asked for "freshly made extra crispy fries." The lady manning the drive-through kept omitting the "freshly made" part of my order when she would read it back. (E.g. she just kept repeating "Extra crispy fries".) I had to correct her each time and then finally break it down for her: "No, I want FRESHLY MADE fries that are extra crispy! I don't want you to just throw old fries back into the fryer! I want FRESHLY MADE fries that are also extra crispy!!" She gave me an extra-crispy order of ATTITUDE, but my fries came out exactly as I was hoping to avoid: they were obviously old fries that they just dumped back into the fryer. They were soggy, unappetizing, and that nasty dark brown color due to the oil saturation. Oh, and they weren't even salted. I couldn't even eat them. I've been disappointed each and every time I've been to Ted's (3 times), and will never ever be back. I really hope they go out of business and open literally anything else in that prime real estate.
