I had previous cut 5 inches off, and my cut was extremely blunt. Blunt cuts do not work with my frizzy wavy hair! But Paula layered my hair, added some dimension, and some framing around the face. I recently saw Noah at Ted Isaacs salon for a cut and color. I brought him a mess and he fixed it all! He listened carefully, corrected my hair color expertly, and spent time crafting a beautiful new hairstyle for me, that I can wear either curly or straight. I've only even coming here for a few months since I've just recently moved back. Noah always does right by me. He worked with me to get me the "vibe" or aesthetic I was going for. He is an excellent colorist, he's colored my hair twice and it came out great both times. Since he mixes color by hand for customization quite a bit, if you want the exact same color every time, I would recommend asking what the exact formula for your color was so you can reference it again in the future. Reception is very friendly and always asks if I want anything from Starbucks when she goes to pick something up for the stylists. The salon is beautiful and clean. I can't really speak to prices because I was getting my hair done in San Francisco before this, so it feels affordable by comparison. read more

Sarah D. is a genius with color. I'm not sure why she isn't a celebrity stylist in Hollywood. She says because Portland will always be her home. :-) I don't even tell her what I want I just say "Work your magic!" I've had a lot of great haircuts in my time, but Tara really nailed it. She understood that I have an active life, and that I wanted a new style that was versatile, elegant yet easily wash-and-go...I went back to her for color, and have been getting compliments left and right from friends and strangers alike. She accurately mixed the right shade for me, and added fantastic and complex highlights. It's only been about three weeks since it's been done, and the cut and color are both holding up beautifully. (BTW, I also recommend the deep-conditioning!) Good haircuts and color don't come cheap, but among Portland's top salons Ted Isaac Salon's pricing is surprisingly average. The strangest hair appointment ever. Let me just start by saying my hair itself turned out nice. I had actually even planned to try it one more time before writing a review but Kristi won't respond to my messages. I saw a FB post from the stylist advertising her services so I messaged her. We exchanged some back and forth, I sent her a photo of my hair and what my eventual end goal was. I have dark hair and knew I wasn't going to hit my goal blonde in one session so I also included some ranges. Just ideas of what I liked but also where I wanted to head. My appointment comes and it takes a long time. I guess I have "a lot of fine hair" I'd never had someone tell me that but my hair usually does take longer. I just thought it was because I'm mixed with naturally curly hair. So towards the end of what I think is 6 or 7 hrs, I finally ask for an ETA on finishing because I'm starving. She tells me we still haven't done the roots so I just say let's skip it and just finish drying, straightening and cutting it. She seems annoyed and I'm not sure why but I'm also fighting off early stages of hangry so I just keep quiet. We get to the end, it looks cute and I'm happy with progress we've made. We're even discussing plans for the next stage. We go to the counter, I ask how much I owe her and she asks me what she quoted in her message. I pull up the message and I guess it was much lower than what she would have charged had she known how much hair I have or the work she had to do on it? Idk. So I'm guessing that's why she's now blocked me and ignored my FB message. I guess for me I just felt like this all could have been avoided had she just communicated early on. When she got her hands on my hair she could tell what she was dealing with so why not just pause right there and tell me it's going to be more than you had originally thought or when I didn't lift as high as we were hoping. Who knows. Any ways, she did a really good job on my hair and I was hoping we were going to work forwards my goal but I guess I'm looking for a new stylist now. read more

Kristy Wise!!!! Amazing! She absolutely was the most professional and comfortable stylist I have ever been around. She is extremely knowledgeable and really listens to what your desires are for your hair. My hair was a level 5(dark brown) and she took me to a magically beautiful blonde with no gold! If you are expecting to run in the salon and be colored,cut, and styled in an hour go somewhere else. Kristy takes time cause she actually cares about the quality of work she does and the integrity of your hair. I was blown away. She took her time with me and my hair is absolutely breathtaking! Nikki is fantastic! I tried 2 salons before Ted Isaacs upon moving here 4 years ago. I was disappointed with the previous 2 salons, as they didn't carry the right "red" color for me, and the stylists didn't listen and do what I wanted. I have a very simple style, but a specific red that mirrors the color I was born with. The very first time that Nikki cut and colored my hair, I finally was able to relax......because I can totally trust her! She knows her craft, she listens, makes me feel like I'm her only client,and delivers a precise cut and color EVERY time! Getting a cut and color can be stressful. I'm so sad. We must have had a communication breakdown somewhere, but I just wanted a trim, some layers, and some bangs. I ended up with losing at least 6 inches off the bottom, no real discernable layers, and bangs that start really abruptly at my hairline and aren't blended into the rest of the cut. I absolutely love my hair cuts and color, and I literally get stopped in the street by people that compliment my hair now. I've been going to this salon off and on for 10 years now and usually never had a problem, probably because I've dealt directly with a stylist, who sadly is no longer there. But due to a long story with my other stylist, I had to make a last minute appointment and because I was close to this salon this weekend, I thought I'd go there since I'm familiar with it. I ended up using their online scheduling system, saw Frances had appointments available all day so went ahead and scheduled, got confirmation of appointment and confirmed myself through their system. Show up to salon this morning, a few minutes early, check in with another stylist since front desk lady wasn't there yet and was told Frances was in the back and would let her know I was here and to have a seat. Will after waiting in front area for over 25 minutes with no acknowledgement, and no sight of Frances, the front desk woman finally comes in and asks who I was waiting for, I tell and was told that's odd, she's not here yet. So basically was lied to by the other stylist. She tried calling her, no answer and left a voicemail. Was told it seems that system never alerted her of the appointment, even though it shows up at their end. Tries to get me to reschedule for another time but unfortunately today was only day available, which is why I scheduled it and it was at this point that I was shrugged off with half hearted apology. I get systems have issues and things happen, but to one be lied to when I got there that my stylist was there and then two to be shrugged off like no big deal. read more

Kristy Wise is amazing! I get more compliments on my hair and she literally saved me from a color that was done by another lovely stylist but just was not what I wanted. I walked in and by grace found Kristy and she has been a treasure ever since. My hair color is fun! We did a color stack, which I loved!! We try subtle changes and she asks and discusses before making any changes to color. My hair is very thick so it takes time and understanding to cut it well. It is also short so accuracy and style matters and she pays attention to detail. She is open to feedback and loves communication so she makes sure to achieve the look and feel you would like to have. I wake up and sometimes barely even need to put a brush through my hair. Being a professional on the go, time on my hair is not where I like to spend my mornings. I'm disappointed to write that my son is in tears after a haircut with Tara. After having very long hair, he decided to cut 6" off at the barber. While we liked the length, it needed some style and Tara was recommended. She showed us a picture, which we all approved. However, the hair cut looks nothing like the cool, shaggy picture. It is 3" shorter, heavily layered, and looks like a conservative boy cut. She didn't listen to a word we said. read more
