If I was rating Ted Collins Tree & Landscape's quality of service alone, I would have given them zero stars. I used the online order form on their website to order two face cords of firewood. After five days of not hearing from them, but seeing on my debit card account that they had already processed the charge, I used their online form on their website to contact them that I had not received any firewood. I waited another three days and called them, but getting a human being to answer one of their phone tree numbers was a challenge. Finally, a lady gave me the personal number of the man who handles the firewood (maybe you could include that number on the order form!). When I finally got him on the phone, he made no apology for the fact that they had taken my money and not delivered any product nor answered my two e-mails, but at least I got the order through. I had them dump the firewood at the top of my driveway, but I wasn't home at the time. When my son started stacking the wood in the back, I noticed all the wood debris that came with the firewood. Apparently, they didn't want to take the time to clean out their truck and decided to dump all the fine debris collected over several deliveries onto my driveway (I have a photo, but there's no way to paste it in) for me to clean up. I didn't appreciate it! I will be looking elsewhere for my next firewood purchase. Robert S. read more

This landscaping company did a fantastic job with removing weeds and mulching a large berm and other areas in front of our house. They also spent time on a garden bed that had been removed by them 10 days before, where they leveled the ground, placed down topsoil and seeded grass. The crew were hard working and led by Tom who was very professional and friendly (thank you, Tom!). The crew cleaned up all debris before they left. Overall, I highly recommend them as a landscaping company. And a big thank you to Trevor Wood who directed and oversaw the entire project. By the way, every time we now drive into our driveway, it makes me so happy, because our property looks so beautiful ! read more

We initially hired them for tree removal and were pleased with the service. Based on that, we requested additional work, including garden bed cleanup and stump grinding removal. While the job was mostly completed on time, communication gaps led to missed details. They eventually addressed the issue, but it required multiple follow-ups. Overall, the experience was mixed due to these concerns. read more

I've used TED Collins for about 20 years for a number of tree and landscape projects, but my experience has at times been less than satisfying. They tend to charge premium prices, but quality of service does not always match the price. I've had a number of projects that required call backs to address issues. I think the problem is that while the folks doing the quoting are knowledable, the guys sent to do the work are often in-experienced and poorly supervised. Their goal seems to be to get in and get out as fast as possible without much concern for customer satisfaction or meeting the terms of the contract. The one positive exception is the team that handles spraying for disease and insects. They seem to do a good job. read more

After we hired them to cut down our trees, which we were happy with, we decided to hire them for additional work. The removal of stump grinding was not included in the original job, so we requested a quote for spring cleanup and removal of the grindings. This included cleaning garden beds, cutting back dead perennials heads for spring, removing the grindings, adding soil and reseeding and a couple of piles of brush in our back wooded area. We received the estimate on April 1st and hired them on April 20th. At the time we were told they were about 4-5 weeks out, which was fine since that would put us at the end of May. They came and did most of the work the second week of June, but missed the piles of brush in the back. After contacting them, they apologized and came back but said there was poison ivy that they would have to spray. That was June 14th. Then we heard nothing. Until I contacted them July 29th because the piles were still there. After contacting them they finally came and notified me they picked them up, but when I went in the back to look, only one of the smaller piles was taken away (and not all of it, at that). The large pile was still there. I contacted them and the rep came to our property to see what I was talking about. Apparently the entire time he wasn't aware of this much larger pile only a couple of feet away that they sprayed for poison ivy. We were given another estimate to remove it that was close to $600. Now, I will give them the benefit of the doubt that it was missed. I honestly don't understand how, though, since when we initially discussed it it was highly visible because there weren't any leaves on the trees. I am disappointed because this was one of our most important items to get taken care of with spring cleanup - which now we are heading into fall and it's still there and to clean it up will put us out another $600. The lack of communication and the frustration that went along with it has, unfortunately, downgraded my rating. My advice is if you do have them write you up an estimate make sure you walk with someone and go over the details. That was our mistake. read more

If it was possible to leave zero stars for this company I would have. Here is a rundown on the dishonest & subpar services we received: 1. Workmanship: our project was to clear the overgrowth on part of a hill in our backyard. Michael, the landscape architect, did not order nearly enough product, which was apparently our fault. Within 2 weeks the overgrowth was back & is much worse than it was to begin with. The machines tore up our lawn & Ted Collins did a shoddy job at best repairing it. 2. Misleading Contract: we were VERY clear on the budget we had to work with--$2000. We were told that would be no issue at all & the contract was written up to reflect what appeared to be $1800. Before signing the contract I called Michael to verify the $1800 price tag. He assured me I was correct & work began. When the bill arrives it was for over $3000. When I called to inquire I was told I "obviously don't know how to read a contract." 3. Terrible Customer Service: Michael placed blame for the total price, the return of the overgrowth & the torn up lawn squarely at my feet as I "clearly don't understand landscape design." When I attempted to contact his supervisor, desperate for some help managing the situation, he refused to return my calls or emails. RUN FAR AWAY FEOM THIS HORRIFIC COMPANY! After being very clear with my expectations for a landscaping project, primarily the budget, the landscape architect we worked with, Michael, told me the project could easily be done for the amount I gave him. He wrote up a contract that made it appear as though he was working within our $2000 budget, when, in reality,the final bill arrived at over $3000. There was no communication about this on his end. When I contacted him he told me I am "obviously unable to read a contract." When I attempted to contact his supervisor, his supervisor refused to return my phone calls or my emails. If the extremely poor and diss honest customer service was not enough, the landscaping project turned into a nightmare the machines the company used tore up our lawn and Michael refused to have it fixed. Additionally the project involved the clearing of about half of a hill of overgrowth. Within two weeks of the project the overgrowth was back. Michael shared that this was to be expected which was completely unacceptable in my mind. We are currently out $3000 with a hill that is in worse shape than it was to begin with. In addition, my husband and I spent about $400 out-of-pocket to repair the track marks all over our lawn. Oh and if all of this was not enough he also did not order enough product and told me that would be an additional charge. Stay far far far away from this absolutely horrible company! read more

Mistake #1, Using them in the first place. Landscape work is only guaranteed for the same as a plant, I know I took them to court and lost based on T. Collins contract (which is the same for a plant-beware), within 12 months of installation (for a plant mind you they do/didn't even have a separate guarantee for any installation of stone landscaping work). Mistake #2, the person who oversaw installation is registered arborist #419, not an engineer. Hence from the get-go the wrong material was, used-roman stack for a steep driveway. Drainage was never put in and the wall started to fail after 3 years. Mistake #3, waiting to long to try and correct the matter. It turns out I only had 12 months, while I was told it was guaranteed for 5 years. Problem is the wall didn't start to fail until the soil and water reached maximum capacity as it had no place to drain. Surprise! For the wall to eventually collapse inward on itself took longer than the allotted 12 months. That regular contract that Ted Collins sends out for you to sign, read the fine print. That plant guarantee applies to your stone work job too. One would think if they did work they were proud of that they would guarantee it for a reasonable period of time. Good luck getting anyone to call you back, three different "top" people would not deign to return calls, frustrating, expensive lesson. Let my ignorance be your salvation. Ted Collins should stick to what they know - weeds and trees. read more

Would not recommend! Two years ago we had a paver sidewalk put in by Ted Collins Landscape. Less than a year later the edges were separating and the polymeric cement was washing out. We went into their office in Victor and were treated very rudely and were told someone would give us a call. Weeks later we got a call and they sent a couple guys out and they sort of fixed it. Now the edge has separated again and the pavers are moving and the polymeric is mostly washed out. We pulled the ground out to expose the plastic edging, only to find it was secured with pegs at about 4 foot intervals. It is not secure enough to hold everything together. We ended up securing it with 50 more spikes (in every hole for the 25 foot length), which should hold it. Cost us about $25. Why would they cheap out on the spikes? Very disappointed. It looked nice when it was first put in, but now the pavers are a bit crooked because of all the movement, so even though it probably will hold, it looks a little wonky. Spend your $ elsewhere. read more

We had Ted Collins design a new front walkway and landscaping for our front lawn this past fall (2014). Everyone that came to work at the house was very helpful and professional. The new front walkway is really a work of art. It looks beautiful and like it has always been there. The landscaping took boring, overgrown shrubs from the 1980's to a more updated and inviting look. We had a shady section of lawn that didn't grow much and they made it look beautiful. I am so pleased with the variety of plants they used. Everyone was very helpful and ready to answer any questions. It was a pleasure to work with Ted Collins Tree and Landscape. read more
