When I called Tech Star Services, I was gratified to actually talk to Mike, the owner, instead of an answering machine. I told him I had a number of tasks, the most important being a clogged drain line from my sink to the basement. When I asked if he could give estimates over the phone for each task, he was able to give estimates for all but the drain line, but that he would estimate that after inspection before he did any work on it. He does not charge travel fees. Mike and Matt arrived promptly at the appointed time and pointed out the corrosion in the galvanized iron pipes (which didn't surprise me as I had seen leaks from these pipes). This was clearly more than a clog drilling job. Mike pointed out to me fissures in my laundry sink which eluded my poor eyesight - no wonder water was always on the floor! And so the old laundry sink was replaced.The job was very labor intensive and the old worn items were nicely cleaned up and removed. Based on my research of other plumbers charges, although the work was not cheap, I have received a new drain system at a somewhat lower cost than most. We had an emergency with our outdoor well. The water started pouring out of the well casing all over the front yard, and was getting worse by the minute. I first called a company that sent two men who obviously didn't know what they were doing. They said they "didn't carry that brand" and would have to order a part, then left me with what seemed like the entire aquifer gushing out of the ground. Then I called Tech Star because I saw that they were very close by and were Better Business Bureau accredited. Michael came immediately, correctly diagnosed the problem, and gave us a detailed estimate for repairs. Then Matt joined him and the two men could not have been more competent and profession, not to mention NICE! It was a difficult job that entailed having Michael practically hanging down into the muddy well by his heels while installing new pipes. My problem seemed insurmountable until TechStar Services came to look at it. I was well satisfied with their earlier work on a sump pump installation in 2014, so I decided to get their opinion as to how to fix my drainage problem in the front yard. Michael came out right away and discussed what needed to be done. Arriving at a fair price for the considerable work that needed to be done, we decided he would start the next work day and take about two days to complete all the excavation, new PVC pipe installation, back fill, grading, seeding, etc. He arrived promptly as scheduled and performed all the work very well within the agreed upon time. Further, he offered to return in the spring to help mulch an area he had to disturb to complete the job. Overall, I am highly satisfied with the work done, and I especially like the appropriate level of communications between this contractor and me. I've used Matt from TechStar for several plumbing projects and he always gets the job done right. He is extremely professional and reasonably priced. Not only has he fixed our problem spots (i.e. a particularly troubling clogged sink/line in the basement), but he also explained to us why the problem occurred (due to the architecture of the home and the way the plumbing was laid when the house was originally built 40 years ago) and gave us tips on how to avoid the problem reoccurring in the future. This is my second use of TechStar for plumbing services. They did an outstanding job last time, doing a variety of routine plumbing repairs and updates. This time, I had an emergency, with water leaking through the ceiling from the upstairs. From the initial call (out of hours) with immediate and professional support and advice, through the efficient repair the next day where everything was clearly explained and they went beyond the normal scope of plumbing repairs (by putting in a very professional access panel instead of leaving a hole in the wall), I was delighted. Since I bought my first home in 2007, I had used J.H. Peterson for my plumbing needs. Well, J.H. Peterson went out of business recently so I had to hire a new company for my latest plumbing problem. This is where Tech Star Services came in. Michael was very professional. He did a thorough inspection of the problem and provided me with upfront cost and time of service. After I accepted, he got to work and did an excellent job. And the job did not look easy: he had to remove the toilet from my tiny half bath and replace a leaking water line behind the wall (which had ruined the bottom part of the wall and decorative panel). I had the opportunity to have Matt from TechStar Services fix a major leak in my home. Apparently a pipe had burst in the ceiling and was pouring water into the living room area. Matt came out for the emergency call and was able to stop flow of water through my ceiling and minimize the damage. Matt was very professional and was able to diagnose and fix the pipe in the ceiling promptly. The work that was completed was superb and you cannot tell that there ever was an issue. You don't find businessmen like this very often! I had previously purchased services from another plumber via Angie's List. The toilet the other plumber replaced with a "high quality" product malfunctioned after 6 months. Somehow Angie's List had the old plumber's account directed to Tech Star. When I called Tech Star, I learned the previously plumber went out of business. (So much for Angie's List 5-star rating!) Mike from Tech Star was very sympathetic and offered to come fix my toilet for free! He made good his offer. arrived right on time and get a great job. I will definitely use Tech Star Services again! Mike and Matt came out to my house today, which I'm EXTREMELY grateful for as I had a very stressful morning trying to find a plumber to come out today to fix the clogged pipe. They also pointed out some locations throughout the house that need some work, and they did so without making it feel like they were just pitching a service to profit themselves. I get annoyed when people try to pitch pricey services without the customer in mind, but I did not feel pressured or annoyed with the way Mike and Matt explained everything. Like another reviewer, I had used JH Peterson Plumbing for many years. I called the number I had for them and "discovered" they had gone out of business, and that TECHSTAR now had the old number. Mike responded to my call and explained how they came to have the referenced number. He personally came to the house and provided both superior service and counsel for the "mystery" problem I was having with a guest bathroom toilet. He was prompt, fair and honest. They installed a new water heater, repaired a leaking faucet in our back yard and a leak in the pipe under our kitchen sink. Always on time. After a recent storm, both of my sump pumps decided to quit working and my basement flooded. After hours with a shop vac, my basement would flood again hours later. After receiving some rather high quotes, I called TechStar. The came, gave me a fair quote, moved furniture out of the way, got the water out, and replaced my pumps. Mike and Matt have essentially replaced my entire 70 year old cast iron sewer that was broken in several places and all is working well. Additionally, they have worked with me to get the appropriate documentation to my insurance as some of the work has been covered.
