Installation was quick, clean and informative: he explained components and features, offered different options, and uninstalled and disposed of random components of earlier systems spread throughout the house. And most importantly, at nine o'clock one night, when I called him after clumsily and accidentally fouling up the master code and a clutch of other settings too due to my inexperience with the system, he picked right up and walked me through the process of sorting out the whole mess, and taught me how to avoid making that mistake again. The existing system was stickered by one of the 3-letter acronym outfits and I knew from trying to deal with them when my I moved my parents to an assisted living center I wanted nothing to do with them. Atlanta Home Alarm Systems came over within 24 hours, converted the system to their monitoring service and I couldn't be more pleased with their service, reliability and value. AND they offer pay as you go, monthly payments, no contract! I still can't believe it. Since then their very capable techs have replaced sensors when they went kafitz!, moved all the sensors when we had our windows replaced, relocated the cellular service connection to the attic when the under stairs wiring closet couldn't keep a connection... Canceling Vivint was far more difficult than it should have been…read more A year ago, I was told I needed to pay off my equipment financing before I could cancel service. After paying off the equipment, I called to cancel and spent over an hour on the phone speaking with two different representatives. I was repeatedly placed on hold for 3-5 minutes while they returned with new offers to keep me from canceling, including discounted monitoring rates and replacement equipment through "loyalty points" that I had never heard of before despite being a customer for years. I was also charged an additional $35 for equipment-related costs that I was told were not included with my financing. Although my cancellation request was eventually approved, Vivint informed me that my account would not be processed for cancellation until 10 business days after notice was received. I was also told that monitoring charges would continue during the review/processing period. The representatives were polite, but the process felt focused on retention rather than providing a simple and transparent cancellation experience. Customers should not have to spend over an hour on the phone, endure multiple retention attempts, and wait additional business days just to end service.

After a near-miss with some lightning, which completely knocked out my First Alert system, I found out how Ackerman makes all their money - the estimate was over $650 to replace the board and that didn't include any additional bits that might need replacing (had to replace two door sensors too). I ended up buying my own Ademco kit and hiring SPS for both the install and monitoring. This time I went with a wireless unit for phone (the lightning came in via the phone line - it actually hit the service pole). A call brought Bo Beaven from SPS out to look things over and give me an estimate - their hourly rate was HALF what Ackerman charges - and since I got my own equipment when John the installer came out it was a breeze, and half again the estimated time I got from Ackerman. The entire experience was fantastic. I also ended up using them for the monitoring - which came out about the same as what Ackerman was charging me, even with the added expense for the cell service on the wireless phone. Recently I was throwing a code and was able to get a human on the phone with the first call, and get a live technician with instructions to clear the code over the phone. To top it off they're coming by next week to take another look to make sure that there isn't an issue with the wireless - that's what I call CUSTOMER SERVICE!
