Theater Venue

Amazing venue with valet and plenty of parking around the area. All of the productions are remarkable and have a Miami flavor that cannot be beat. The owner and staff are pleasant and create a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend this theater and their Sala Catarsis next door.

New Comedy of the Venezuelan Gozadera @Catarsis 7/20/22

This theater always has great shows featuring Latin artists. There's also a small venue called Catarsis next to it where they often hold stand up comedy shows in an intimate setting You do need to speak Spanish for most shows featured here but it is a great option for anyone looking for some theater in a city full of options

I used to work in Coral Gables. I'd see this theater every day on my way to and from work. Somehow though, I had never bothered going in until just recently. By recently, too, I mean last night. Teatro Trail has been a staple to the Hispanic community in Miami for years. I remember growing up and hearing all about it. That and with the advent of YouTube, knowing its main star has become pretty easy. I'm a big fan of Alexis Valdes, and for at least a year now, I've seen his shows being headlined at this theater. All three of his Oficialmente Gay shows. Yet despite knowing these shows were playing, I only finally saw my first one: Oficialmente Gay #1. Oficialmente Gay #1 was everything I hoped for and more. It was downright hilarious. I'm so happy I went and saw it along with Anthony G. My only question now pertaining to this show is if its sequels can be watched out of order. Currently Oficialmente Gay #3 is playing, but Oficialmente Gay #2 isn't. However, I'm focusing too much on the show. Let's get to the actual theater. You can get tickets either on their website or by calling. There is one actual theater and it's pretty spacious. They have ushers who lead you to your seats, too. Oh, and you can get drinks and snacks as well at the theater. Parking is at the lot next to the theater. They charge you $10 to park there. As for the aforementioned drinks and snacks, they take cash. Or so it seems. They kept advertising an ATM, so if you go this theater, definitely bring cash for the extras. Place is a bit dated in the sense that they can afford to get with the times. By this, I'm referring to their stance on purchases being with cash only. Other than this, though, I think this place has stood the test of time and I hope it continues to do so. This has been one of the most hassle-free experiences I've ever had with parking at a theater. Also, with tickets and finding seats and just overall. Everything is clearly labeled and staff is genuinely nice. I only wonder why it is only now that I finally went. It took me way too long.

This Playhouse Theater is a CLASSIC to the Latin community! Have't been to this theater in a few years, but it has been around since 1930 were it originally opened as a movie theater with Spanish subtitles for the Hispanic community and later became a Spanish language playhouse. This place is a historic site and till this day is very well maintained and has variety of plays written and performed by our own local South Florida talent. Last nights play "Felices Los Cuantos" was super funny and can't say enough about how good the local actors performed and made us laugh. If you are looking for something different to do on weekend I highly recommend we support this small theater to continue providing us with awesome entertainment and preserve it's historic value to our city and community. Definitely 5 stars!

I decided to skip a bunch of other reviews (of my vacation) because I came to this theatre approximately one month ago and I wonder if I will ever get to it with all the many reviews I am still behind on! I digress, though. As I said I came a month ago to this theatre and the moment I walked in, I got hit with both a wave of nostalgia and deja vu. I kept asking myself if I had been here before because the theatre looked somewhat familiar. Later on, I confirmed with some family members and in fact I actually had come here once in the past. I was in High School and I was taking a college class called Theatre Appreciation and one of the requirements was to go watch a play on your own and write a paper on it. I don't remember much of the play, unfortunately. I do remember, though, that at one point during intermission, Armando Roblan, did an imitation of Fidel Castro that had me laughing so hard it hurt! There is still a lot of that in this theatre well over a decade later. The theatre looks a lot nicer than what it was in my memory, but it still looks a bit anachronistic... and perhaps on purpose. They have decorations in the theatre like an old crt tv, old reel projector and other decorations that harken back to a bygone era. The theatre itself looks like a converted movie house from the 50s, except when you get to the stage area where it looks a bit more modern. The stage well decorated. They have modern screen advertisements. The seats are much nicer and more comfortable than I remember them being. The theatre also has an area to buy snacks, food and beverages including alcohol. In retrospect, I should have gotten a drink while I was there. Please note, the bar is cash only (again that's old school). I was there this time because Marilu F. told me she was interested in seeing a series of plays being showed there called "Oficialmente Gay", by comedian/writer Alexis Valdes. I wasn't sure about going, but she convinced me and I wanted to hang out with her. I am glad I did! They were putting the first part of the series because they were premiering the 3rd part of the trilogy at the same time. Marilu and I both took pictures with the wall behind us having the title of the play. Made me feel like I was a star attending the premiere. Definitely Marilu looked the part, check out her pictures! The play's plot is essential has a young Cuban by the name of "Papito", who is about to solve all his economic problems because he is about to be named the director of a major hotel in Varadero. Unfortunately for him, in a bid to improve it's international image the Cuban government passes a new law giving complete equality of the LGBT community. Papito's father in law, an official with some clout in the Cuban government and communist party tells him if he wants to get the job he's got to "act gay". This of course is a problem for "Papito" and not because it's ethical wrong and illegal, but because 1) he is married and 2) he is a giant disgusting homophobe. This forces him to ask help from his wife's best friend, who is Gay to help him. Shenanigans ensue. Please note this play is definitely NOT politically correct. I certainly enjoyed the show as I laughed hard with Marilu throughout the play. And, I liked that in a way, the play taught Papito to be more understanding and accepting of people who are not like him. Something we should all learn! I was thinking as I walked out, how the play is essentially a lot like this theatre and Cuban humor in general: an anachronism. Essentially, it is still defined and scarred by the revolution. The play wasn't about Miami or the US, but about Cuba... itself an island stuck in the time warp of the Cold War. It was certainly cool to see Alexis Valdes appearing with a bit part in his own play. I bet he had a more significant role in the third part that was playing at the same time. Would I come back to see part 2 and 3? Definitely yes! All in all, I had a wonderful evening. Great play! Amazing company! If you are reading this Marilu, thank you for convincing me to come and for the pleasure of your company!

I will give it a 3.5 . We had a great laugh the actual Play was great but I believe that this place needs a touch up when it comes to appearance . Maybe do a detail clean and touch up or just renovation but still with a touch on antique and old theater will be great . Add make the bathrooms new to that list .

Went to see " Vallenato Help Me" with the family. Amazing show with Colombian cast. The music was amazing, the acting was funny. I love this theater and it made me feel like I was stepping back in time. The theater still has its authentic bones. It's fairly clean. More importantly getting in and out of the theater was smooth and seats are assigned so no need to stress.

The issue was how the manager handled it. Instead of simply acknowledging the inconvenience and handling the complaint professionally, he became defensive and offered us butter in a cup in a way that felt completely dismissive. When we expressed that we were unhappy with the response, he apparently took our criticism personally and decided that we would not be allowed into the theater at all. Seriously? Customers can't complain about the service without a manager becoming offended and kicking them out? A good manager would have said, "I'm sorry about the inconvenience. Unfortunately, the machine isn't working tonight, but we'll make sure it's addressed." That would have been the end of it. Instead, the situation was unnecessarily escalated and we were treated as though we had done something wrong simply for voicing a complaint. For a theater charging premium prices in a prime location, I expected a much higher level of professionalism and customer service. The theater was practically empty on a Friday night, and after seeing how management treats paying customers who raise a concern, I can understand why. Needless to say, we will not be returning.

I also believe they have some happy hour specials but they are not clearly posted anywhere. We found out when we ordered at the counter that some food items were actually cheaper because of the time. It was around 4pm on a Tuesday. Food took a long time to get to our chairs and it arrived cold so it is better to just wait for it by the counter. Food quality is not the best. Flatbread was burned and fries were cold. Loaded nachos were probably the best item so far. They were out of chicken sliders and other items. In addition, the silverspot app doesn't really work inside the theater for easy ordering from your seat. Air conditioning is not kept very cold so it gets warm inside the theater. Chairs although comfortable, they are starting to look old and some were sticky, but we asked a staff member to help us and she cleaned it immediately. Overall, it is the only cinema in downtown Miami so it could definitely be better, but $8 movies and discounted nachos, it is not bad for a Tuesday night.
