I have really enjoyed the times that I have been here. This library looks small from the outside but is actually huge! There is a large quiet section with large cubbies & other areas which I have yet to explore. The lower level has a large selection of CD's & DVD's. Going to the restroom felt a bit ominous because the lower level is usually less populated & the bathrooms are secluded. I would definitely be back here for quiet study or for a change of scenery from my local library. The staff have not been too friendly or welcoming but I did not interact more with them besides exchanging a simple "hello" or "goodbye." read more

Nice space great to study and never too busy. After school hours it fills up a little

This is a great library if you want to relax and study or do homework. There's a study room in the back of the library with tables, chairs, extension cords to plug in your devices, and computers. I came here a few times to get some of my nursing assignments completed. The library is huge, but I didn't really look around the rest of the library because I spent all of my time in the study room. I really want to give this library 5 stars but I can't because the entire staff is SUPER RUDE and disrespectful for absolutely no reason what so ever. In the study room there are several signs that say "NO calls allowed". Okay, yeah, I understand that because it's a quiet area. Well I was waiting for a very important phone call and when the person called me I literally ran out of the study room and picked up the phone call in the next room and whispered on the phone. Literally no one could hear a peep from me. The woman at the front desk gave me the DIRTIEST LOOK, like honestly that look could kill a person, and told me to get out, no phones allowed in the library. Okay but there's no sign in that particular room stating that, and that's why I went out of my way, literally ran out of the quiet study room into the next room to pick up my phone call. And whenever you ask a question, for example where the bathroom or copy machine is.. they give you unnecessary attitude. Like sorry that your job SUCKS and you're miserable but don't take it out on happy library goers! The attitudes of these people really turned me off to this place. read more

Pretty big library with several floors. I didn't expect that many staff members to be working here so I was taken back by that. They were polite and greeted me every time I encountered any of them. It had a lot of foot traffic when I went one evening during the middle of the week. It has an auditorium for speakers or special events. Definitely worth the look. read more

I use their webpage to order the books I want so they're always waiting for me when I come in. The library is about two floors and a good size. The staff is always so nice and friendly. I've stopped to talk with them sometimes. Definitely will keep coming back here! read more

I started visiting this library for myself years ago, I wasn't always the most resourceful in what I was looking for. But they had computers that you could use in the Resource Room for about 30 mins, maybe longer if there was no one else waiting. Present day, it's seems to have expanded its selections, slightly. There are still some books that I can't find and have to hold at surrounding libraries, but what I do like about this library are the activities for children (toddlers and adolescents). On Saturday's they have Craft Storytime for tots (Ages 3 and up), my kids love it, they are literally asking me to go to the library. How can a parent rank TPL any less than 3 stars, when your children are wanting to go to the library? They must be doing something right. read more

Miserable employees at this library. I would say maybe 2 staff members are friendly and helpful. Otherwise, be prepared to meet the Gruesomes. I've visited libraries all over Bergen County and I never thought that the Teaneck library would house a bunch of miserable workers. If you want a good experience visit Englewood, Hackensack or better yet Hasbrouck Heights. read more

Charming library with a preserved historic feel. Two-stories with a reference and children's section on the first floor and the stacks below. Ample seating and a great place to study. I spent the afternoon curled up in an armchair in front of the fireplace. A definite plus. read more

I love it here, they had a program for children last year that helped my sister read a lot more books last summer. She was given cute little gifts for every accomplishment she made every step of the way, I was proud of her and she was proud she put in the work. They also have movie days and fun activities for children. I personally love the environment and the books are just awesome. I'm like a kid in a candy store when I'm there read more

The facility is fresh and up to date but there are some other issues concerning access to computers and wifi. Computer time is severely limited to 30 minutes. If you don't own a computer and come to this library to use the free public service you are not welcome to. The Board won't allow it they told me. If people come to use computer for job searching or resume building a 30 minute time slot won't help! The wifi internet is also terribly spotty here. read more

The Teaneck Public Library is one of my favorite haunts in the neighborhood.. There are some areas that are lovely to sit around and soak in the natural light while reading. Usually well stocked and have quick access for holds from other branches. read more

I grew up in the children's section and moved on to reference (school) and the cd section downstairs (fun.) I have a fond place in my heart for this library and often visit when in the area. The employees are ht or miss, but if you find one who is ornery don't be put off - the selection of books, DVDs, and music is too good to let a sour puss put you off. read more

I go here to study. It is an ideal place to study with a plenty of seating, minus ants crawling on desks and floor.

To Jenna L. and Nasreen W., I understand what you mean. Although I have never been to the Teaneck Public Library and cannot offer any commentary on the staff, I used to work at a library where the atmosphere was toxic. It came from the director herself but there were plenty of staff members who shared her negativity. She would speak negatively about staff members to other staff members, sometimes in the next room so they would hear it. The director would also walk around barefoot, not just in the office, but around the library. I wish I could say that was worst thing she did. Although she was very flexible with work schedules, she seemed to have an attitude about her status as a director. She believed, right or wrong, she could do whatever she wanted. She would also make threatening comments about staff members and would intimidate staff with hateful glares or get very close to them. One staff member who was in her 20s at the time would exaggerate and lie about other staff members with whom she did not get along. She liked to have other people hate the person she disliked. She could appear sweet to people and knew how to get sympathy easily. Her only redeeming trait was that she was a good, reliable worker. She also liked to think of herself as a princess and even wore a tiara on a couple of occasions. There was an older woman who had an insulting mouth but some people just found it charming. She had known the director for many years so they were on familiar terms. She liked to make fun of people who struggled with things even though they were trying to correct them. When the 20ish staff member and I had an argument, (I was angry with her for trying to me in trouble with the boss; this had been going on for months), she took the side of the other staff member even though we were both at fault, (She yelled at me and I said something mean to her). It didn't matter that I apologized to both of them for my words; the older woman was determined to get me and made rude comments whenever she could. I've had chronic depression since the age of 21 and she said that I was damaged goods mentally. She knew about the depression because unfortunately I confided in the 20-something creep. Another staff member was a self-righteous homophobe. She frequently complained about things, even the pizza delivery boy's hair, which wasn't bizarre or strange to begin with. Once in a while the complaints were justified but most of the time she just oozed bitterness and anger. She disliked me because of the argument I had with the other girl and took her side. She said she had people who were on her list, meaning **** list. She mocked kids who had transgender issues and people who were gay even though a teenage boy had killed himself for being outed in a sexual encounter several months before. There were a few nice people that were there and they had nothing to do with the toxicity that existed. My harsh criticism is not for them; I'm very grateful to have worked with them. I was not a saint by any means and I certainly had my faults that needed work but I did not treat people as if they were beneath me because they had made some mistakes or used poor judgement. I can honestly state that I would never work with those creepy people ever again, I'd rather spend time with the Taliban. That would be less torturous. read more

Many fond memories of playing "number munchers" computer games here as a kid. They have a great children's library as well.

I don't live in Teaneck yet I use this library often due to the availability of certain books that my teens need for assignments or summer reading. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. The reference desk is always ready to find a book and put it on hold for you. The front desk staff have even renewed my library card and my kids' as well. I have never encountered a problem the many times I have used this library, it's better than my local library. read more
