One quirk is that you have to place your order through the electronic kiosk where…read morethe register would be, but the worker was friendly and told us to ask if we had questions. I got the Whale Crystal, a drink of blue coconut milk and tao jiao (peach tree jelly). I would've guessed that the blue came from butterfly pea flower, but I didn't actually pick up on any flavour besides coconut. The drink was very good - the tao jiao had an interesting texture and very subtle floral taste. It didn't really taste peachy. The barista recommend mixing the drink before drinking and I will reinforce this recommendation since I think the texture and flavour of the tao jiao were best when combined with thee coconut milk. The sweetness level was not adjustable for the drink but I didn't think it was too sweet at all even though I usually take my drinks with low sugar. I really enjoyed this unique drink!

I haven't been to State College in a while. So I'm not sure when all the uni-marts closed down and…read morereopened as boba tea places? But I can not believe how many of these tea places are all over State College! After passing like 12 of them I finally got sucked in - and I entered The Whale Tea. The place was cute. I ordered a large Matcha tea - and the picture on the wall said it was one of their top items ordered. It probably took about 10 minutes for them to make it - but there were a lot of people in and out so I wasn't expecting it to be made too fast. They called my number so I went to get my tea. The picture on the wall showed the tea had boba but my order didn't have it. When I asked they told me the picture was misleading since they don't put boba in the matcha - but they said they would put it in mine if I wanted them to open the seal. I let them add it - bc why not? The drink was absolutely delicious. One of the best matchas I've had. The price was almost $8 which I thought was insane bc it is muuuuuch cheaper to get matcha in Philly. I'm not sure how all these college students can afford this almost $8 beverage - when I was a college student that would not have been even close to being in my budget - I prefered spending my cash on dollar beer pitchers. But these expensive drinks seem to be all the rage w current students.

The salmon was a bit off, didn't seem fresh, and the beef was like cold tendon pieces that didn't quite fit in the bowl. The rice to everything else ratio was skewed towards the former, and not enough sauce was given, so it felt like I was eating just rice at the end. I was a bit disappointed to say the least, but wanted to give this place another chance before posting any reviews. My second sparked my third time coming here. Both times, I ordered salmon as my 2 proteins, brown rice, cilantro, sweet corn, red onions, edamame, kani salad, seaweed salad, and roasted seaweed with their special house sauce, wasabi aioli, and eel teriyaki sauce. Both times were consistent and much better than my first experience. The salmon was fresh, and toppings and sauces were loaded. I love the variety of toppings you can choose from too! Overall, I would recommend coming here. Definitely the better poke place here in State College. The staff are also super friendly. I will be coming back to try their egg waffles next time!

Let me coment on the interior design first: You could call it a typical Asian cafe layout, with the green wall, neon lights, and white-on-wood plus pastel "natural" look, BUT this is State College, PA. How many other places locally have cute set ups like this?? No where. I would love to come here with friends, just to sit and study, hangout, anything. How I miss cafes like this being on every corner in the cities. But alas I'm surrounded by hills in a beautiful valley - thankfully I still get to enjoy this ambiance at Mr.Wish! Their main menu items are fruit teas, which is a refreshing addition to the area as the other bubble tea places focus on the milk teas. You can see all the real fruit chunks and puree in the drinks which is also a much appreciated shift away from flavor powders or syrups! So many different fruit teas to choose from - I got the Peach Sunset today but I'll definitely be back for the Wish Special Fruit Tea(mostly because it looks like calamansi and where can you get that around here?!), and others available. The peach sunset is an icy white peach smoothie with a cheese cap. I think it just comes in L. Not too sweet, but concentrated white peach flavor! They do still have a selection of milk teas so in case your friend still wants the milk tea with tapioca pearls, not to worry, you both can still enjoy the drinks here. :)
