It was fairly simple. Yes, it's the building on the right as you face the water fountain. It literally says Building 1 on it, cant miss it. Once you go in, there's the elevator and you take it up to the 2nd floor. Walk down the hall and you'll reach room 215. The restrooms are somewhere in-between the elevator and the room. I was actually early to my appointment but they let me start so I didn't have to wait. I checked in at front desk and was instructed to remove my rings, bracelet, watch, and hairclip. I had to turn off all my devices and put everything into a locker. The only thing you need out is your ID. They also scan your palm and take a photo of you. Then they ask you to pat yourself down and show nothing is in your pockets. They offered earplugs and a laminated scratch paper and marker to write on. Each test station had noise canceling headphones as well. Everything is sanitized. The testing room had about 15 or so stations. The temperature in here was good, not hot, not cold. I chose to use the earplugs and they worked well with minimizing sound distractions. What was distracting though, was the vibrations of the floor whenever people walked across!! Once I finished the exam, the result was printed on paper and handed to me at the front desk.

My child attends the Early Engineer class during their school's after school time and she really…read morelikes it. This is her 3rd year taking the class and it is the only class she actually wants to participate in after school even though there are many other fun and educational offerings at her school (from Dream Enrichment Classes as well as other vendors/providers). This year has been her favorite b/c she really likes her teacher Ms. Tina. She says there's much more freedom to interact with other students and the noise level/interactivity isn't as much a concern with this teacher as previous ones so then the kids are more free to really get into their various weekly projects. Even though my daughter isn't especially into science/engineering/other STEM subject matters, she loves EE. She says it's just so fun and interesting. I'm glad for this program at her school and hope it continues. She enjoys it so much and the pictures they take show how much all the kids learn through all the weekly challenging projects. It is not cheap, per se, but for less than $400 for a whole school year's worth of classes, averaging out to less than $20 per class, my husband and I feel it's a good investment of time and money for our little one. We're glad she likes EE and hope she'll continue to grow in knowledge and understanding of STEM through this and other similar enrichment classes, even if she doesn't enter into a STEM career path, we still want her to be enriched through these experiences.

This weather has brought me inside to shied myself from the rain. The Department of Education is located on the Corner of Capital Park near the rose garden. It was built in 2002. It is the first state office building to incorporate an underfloor air-distribution system and is the state's first design-build office building. At least 25% of the building includes recycled materials, the lobby's marble floors were salvaged from the Library & Courts Building, circa 1923. They received the Leed Gold in 2003 for being a U.S. Green Building. In 2006 they received the Leed EB Platinum award. What does that all mean? The California Department of Education's green building efforts align with the California Green Building Standards Code (See Title 24, Part 11). This code sets mandatory measures for public schools and community colleges, covering energy efficiency, water conservation, material use, and environmental quality ICC Digital Codes. As an example, new or major renovations must meet specific performance standards for lighting, HVAC, insulation, and site design. For more information google cal green info. The lobby is toasty warm compared to the outside and there is a nice sitting area on the side of the wide-open windows. The windows are nearly floor to ceiling. To keep you safe they have a stand for purell hand sanitizer, but at the same time there is a sign that says don't touch the artwork. On the outside walking in there is a warning that weapons and all sharp objects are prohibited. They have 2 giant murals up. Transforming California Schools: Superintendent's Initiatives and the 50th Anniversary of the individual with disabilities education act. They have a small sign about Save Our Water. If you are a visitor you are instructed to sign in with security with a photo id. Jud Fine is the creator of the artwork in the lobby. Additionally, they were late in sending information after the application period had closed. I was unable to follow the directions in the late email as the link did not work. Also, the final email they send before the assessment process was very late and hardly left the opportunity to prepare. Literally, the information was sent out 12 hours before interviews. I wasn't impressed and expected more for a company tasked with recruiting for vital positions. Considering their role is to assist the employer with finding candidates and the overall testing process to find the most qualified, you would think they would have their stuff together and make the process smoother.

Everything about this place is dated - they've had the same tutors there for 30 years, the same teaching materials for 30 years - look at the books and supplies. It's all super old. Even the furniture in the waiting room is 30 years old. I don't think this organization has the energy, enthusiasm or passion to engage with young students anymore.
