We genuinely loved this school in the beginning. Our son seemed happy there, we liked his teachers, and we felt good about having him there. That is part of what made the concerns that eventually came up so disappointing and ultimately caused us to lose trust. The first happened when I picked him up with a significant bite mark. His main teacher was out at the time, and we were told that no one had seen what happened. The school did not have cameras. I completely understand that biting happens at this age, and the school was apologetic. My concern wasn't simply that he had been bitten. It was that the bite was significant enough to leave a substantial mark, yet no one could tell us when or how it happened. A few weeks later, our son came home appearing to be in the same diaper we had sent him to school in approximately six hours earlier. We had just brought in a new supply of diapers and pull-ups two days before, and we had also been told they were working with him on potty training. This was actually the second time we had noticed something like this. The first time, I gave the school the benefit of the doubt because I thought there could have been another explanation. When it happened again, I raised the concern. What bothered me most was the response. I did not feel that my concern about whether his diaper had been changed was directly addressed. Instead, we were reassured that he was loved and that his teachers were doing their best. I appreciated that they cared about him, but I was looking for a clear explanation and accountability for what had happened. I don't expect any childcare center or teacher to be perfect. Toddlers bite, accidents happen, and caring for young children is incredibly demanding. For us, this ultimately became an issue of supervision, communication, and accountability. Once those things happened, I started questioning what else we might not know about and whether we could trust that a future concern would be noticed and communicated to us. After these experiences, I toured other schools and submitted our 30-day withdrawal notice. The school asked us more than once to reconsider. Ultimately, though, we no longer felt comfortable taking another chance when it came to our child's care and safety, so we decided to move him. I'm sharing this because I believe parents deserve to hear experiences like ours when deciding where they feel comfortable leaving their children.

Beware, parents! *slight edit* I was just sent an e mail that this teacher is not at the Woodlands Campus but at Greengate Academy in Spring. I've lost count; this may be my 5th review. SHSU Charter has a way of making poor reviews vanish. My child used to attend SHSU Humble campus and I regret leaving him there as long as I did. My own background is almost 20 years in education as a teacher, trainer, curriculum developer, coach and specialist at both the site and district level. Due to the nature of my positions, I've literally been in 100s of classrooms. Most teachers are good, or at least have potential. It is the rare few that should not even be in the profession. The K/1 teacher at SHSU would fall into this category. First, the teacher was very rude and uncaring most all the year. She constantly ignored everyone and never let us know how our kids were doing. Anytime I tried to have a conversation with her she'd roll her eyes, sigh and basically act like a spoiled teenager. Next, it is NOT TRUE that SHSU charter doesn't do testing. They do MAP testing 3 times a year, weekly reading tests, and unit math tests alongside several science and social studies exams. It is also NOT TRUE that all the teachers are experts with over a decade of experience. While my child really liked the PE and music teachers and I heard positives about some teachers at other sites, the Humble teacher had never worked with a group larger than 8 and was in desperate need of a mentor or possibly a job change. Not once did I get the impression that she liked her job, the students and most certainly not the parents. Possibly she went into teaching thinking it would be easy, and lucky for her; her position was. Working all alone in a class of only 7 far from the main office in Woodlands must have been a dream come true. Nobody was checking in on her so she could do as she pleased, or more specifically, do as little as she pleased. Not working was certainly her motto. She arrived each day 15 minutes before class and left when the kids did. Each day the same 2 girls would get "red cards" for small infractions. As an educational coach I know, if 25% of your class isn't focused the problem isn't the kids, it's the teacher. The teacher became upset/ embarrassed when it was discovered she was playing on her phone rather than working. The kids would sit alone doing piles of worksheets while she sat at her desk much of the day. Due to being found out, she started a "new policy" that no parent was allowed 1 inch in the class without an appointment. I spoke to both the principal and superintendent about this, and they seemed perfectly happy with the idea of parents being cut off from their child's education. They disguised the door policy as being something all the sites were doing in response to gun control, but as I found out from a friend at another site; this policy was only placed at the Humble campus. One day I entered about 6 inches past the doorframe and was treated like gum on the bottom of her shoe. Yelling, screaming, eye-rolling and telling me to get out. She acted like a maniac in front of the class and I realized my child would be better served staying home watching TV than in a class with a lunatic. I pulled my child an hour later and he told me he was so happy and he never wanted to be in a class with a mean, bad teacher again.

My husband even called a meeting with you to address this with you last year, and ask you to stop threatening us to leave each time we asked about a concern. The first year at the grove was amazing, and MsEddy and Ms Claudia treated our first son with respect and guidance and he loved it. He loved it until the school continued to fail to address this other child containing to hurt and threaten my child's safety. Maybe your teachers need more support and staff to help supervise the classrooms, which have different spaces and are not open concept. The students cannot all be supervised by 1 teacher while the other one is preparing snack or changing diapers. What I asked of the school before you terminated us, was to evaluate this other child's disruption to the classroom. Our request was to know what actions happen when a child continues to cause bodily harm to another. Your response was that these are norm behaviors of children, which I disagree with completely. It is not normal for the same Child over the course of 1.5 years to touch my child's penis, bite him, push and pull him, grab toys from him daily, and eventually choke him and leave scratches. The word expulsion never came out in any of my emails with the school so before you call my facts libelous, please check yours. Your handbook that states an "open door policy" is not honored by you. In an email in January 2021 after we asked to do a visit to meet Ms Nayely since she was new you stated "Unfortunately, we do not plan to have parent classroom observations. They disrupt the routine and send the message that there is a lack of trust between home and school. Having been here since last year, I assume you are very comfortable with Ms. Eddy's leadership in the Toddler classroom and have full faith in her ability to guide her students and mentor her new assistant. I welcome and appreciate parent feedback, but I feel it is my responsibility to observe the classrooms and make necessary changes based on the information provided."
