Stop in for a bite to rest your feet and people-watch. Two floors, a big screen TV, nice lounging areas for small groups, and a popular outdoor seating area. The indoor seating was clean, attractive and recently upholstered. Don't think of sitting outdoors unless you're a smoker too. Our server was super hospitable and found us something to eat even though we had arrived prior to dinner time (7:30 pm). Apparently only drinking occurs in the late afternoon in Trieste, because we couldn't find any downtown restaurants serving dinner at the time most Americans want to eat their evening meal.

There are a lot of good neighborhood bars in Trieste, but this one is my favorite…read more It's been around for almost 50 years and is surrounded by both residences and workplaces: considering this and the fact that they are open every day of the week from early in the morning to later at night, you will always find it busy. It has a big bar, a corner where you can bet on sports, a separate "bar room" with a TV and a dining area. They also have some small tables outside, but they are very few and it may be difficult to find a free one. You can stop here for a coffee, or for a glass of wine, or after-lunch-liquor or cocktail. They have a wide variety of pastry and panini or similar (like the Italian tramezzini, toast, etc) but they also offer full lunches and salads. We have tried everything but the lunches, and there is absolutely nothing I didn't like; plus, the staff is always very friendly. The only negative thing is that (as in every city) parking is extremely difficult to find; however, it is reachable with public transportation, which is pretty efficient in Trieste.
