Every time I go on to online, it will not recognize me. I call, they fix it, then the next time, same issue, ad nauseam, for years. Or the Maxine online recording will not forward me to customer service, it hangs up, or am waiting an hour and then I hang up. This is not the way IT works when branches begin to close, or if they were serious in customer service. Now they are not responsive to these issues. Went into a branch last year, they sent a message to IT, and they had not worked on it. I wrote them last week, no response. Too busy clap boarding their name on stadiums, all saddle no horse. I wrote when I am back in Houston, will close account or send a lawyer to close it. If I fly back to close it, it is on their tab to compensate the travel, etc. They take nothing serious. I've been a member of TDECU since about 1960. My dad worked for Dow, and he started a savings account here for all of his children. He was a very early member. I've borrowed money to go to college, got a mortgage and had a savings account here for many years. Recently, I needed to change my password, because TDECU told me I had to and now I'm on the phone for over 60 minutes trying to speak to an agent. I've heard the same terrible ads on the automated phone system a dozen times. In my opinion, the service has really fallen. My mortgage is almost paid off and once it is, I'm pretty much done with this terrible credit union. Even after they opened offices in Dallas I still don't want to do any business with them. Once again I can't get through when TDECU puts my funds on hold. I'm trying to transfer money for a down payment but of course I should've remembered that TDECU online banking works 10% of the time. The popup on the webpage tells me to call but because it's 7pm and after hours the phone system (MAXINE) just tells me to try again tomorrow during regular business hours after repeating the online banking is 24/7. This credit union has gone so far downhill. Better believe they will spend millions to have their TDECU name at UH Stadium each year but don't dare have anyone available to work your phones for your members after your system fails for online banking. I have asked for a supervisor to call me back four times now over the past two months and not a single time has anyone at TDECU reached out to me. Pathetic read more

Lake jackson branch was holding a deceased veteran's belongs that were were held in our safe deposit box. We did not receive the notification that they were moving. They were holding our belongings hostage until I paid their drill fee. They are moving, we didn't receive the notification, they got the returned certified letter, they didn't call the phone number on the account, they drilled the boxes, then called me, then they said pay or we will send the belongs to the state in 5 years. Can I give negative stars? I moved out of state in November and had to return to take tend to some family business in February. I had been trying to figure out how to close my account while out of state, but given that I had to be in town I went into the local branch on 19th Street in the Heights on February 14th. I have had a very significant amount of money in my account of the the last two years. I had the remainder of my balance transferred to my new account in my new state. The man handling this with me took my debit card so it could be destroyed. I have the signed paperwork for this. I took care of the family business and headed back home. A few weeks like I start getting near daily emails from TDECU saying I have a negative balance of over $500. How? I replied asking about and was told the account was never closed. I emailed back explaining exactly what I have put here. I was told that the account still wasn't closed. This morning I wake up to an email stating that I now have a negative balance of over $800 and that my account privileges have been suspended. WHAT!?!?? I was previously given a link to documents that are in my account. I go to reinstall the app...my account doesn't exist. I try going online, I can't log in. How can I see documents in an account that is supposedly open but that I can't access? So wtf is going on? I have reported this to the Texas Department of Banking. I'm not going to openly say this is fraud, but it sure does rhyme with it. read more

I walk in with a cashiers check, a will, a death certificate, and lay my debit card down and the teller says "oh, I'm going to lunch in 9 minutes. I thought you were just closing an account." so I tell him to get someone else. as he does I decided I was taking my money back next door, I'm going to close this account because I wasn't crazy about being a problem and taking this pathetic excuse of a tellers time!!! i did make a scene!! I have NEVER dealt with anything like this place in my life! I had a car note I paid off. Almost ONE YEAR LATER and I still haven't received the title. Would they wait that long for their payment though??? Um NO. Called and the automatic answer service does not give you any options except to enter an extension. I don't have one? Then it hangs up because it gives you NO other option! So I call back and basically just push buttons and get to a recording telling me my wait time is 58 minutes. For a bank??? Not one person available for a phone call? But it allows me to leave my number so as not to sit on the phone. A nice gentleman calls me back an hour and ten minutes later to spend 30 seconds on the phone with me just to put me on hold to "transfer me to the right department" and I am on hold for 20 minutes for the recording to come on to tell me I have to leave a message for a call back because "they are experiencing an unusually high volume" of what? I don't know!! This has to be the most INSANE thing I have ever been through! And for the record, I have never even looked at Yelp before! Let alone left a review. We put 120k in CDs in 5 accts using the ladder system Aug 6th , had question about our 1st 3 month CD maturity grace period. Left 4 messages with the person who set up our acct. Been a week and still no response, no way to conduct a business!!!!! And your automated phone system is TERRIBLE. CANT GET THROUGH TO ANYONE. Really wonder if we made the right decision. I have been a member of TDECU since 2017, and I "was" happy with them and their services but they have completely lost all sense of any hint of customer service or community ! I really don't know how the entire staff hasn't been hauled off in handcuffs. So many members mysteriously having money missing from their accounts. If you call them, or their credit card services you will be transferred from person to person to person to person to person and not ONE of them will help you or answer any of your questions. Yesterday, I had an appointment, because calling yielded no help, well, I went to my appointment on my lunch hour and all I accomplished was a waste of 30 minutes of my life that I will never get back. I spoke with Ms Chandler who LIED to me, about the due date on my credit card. She also stated that she nor her coworker were able to sign in to the credit card system to assist me with interest charges and my request to change my due date to later in the month. I don't know WHO is in charge at TDECU but whoever they are, they need to be fired ! We just lost $5,500 from this credit union, it was stolen from our account by an unknown person posing as one of us. After the theft , we did what they required regarding affidavits, police reports, etc. Also tried the State Agency, all to no avail. They claim that we didnt notify them within 60 days of the event. Had my mortgage with them. Financed at 6.5% for 15yrs. Went in and asked to refinance at a lower rate. Maybe 3-3.5% when I found out how much I was over paying. Asked for a small loan to add to it to do a repair on the house. My payments would've still been lower with the loan than previous. Was turned down saying that after looking at my financial information it was decided I couldn't afford the payments. IDIOTS! I was already paying them more each month. Have had this bank for over 15 years. Recently (the past year or so) it has all went to hell and a hand basket. I am closing all my accounts with them including checking, savings, credit card, and loans. I have had issues with my cards just not working and having to get 4 new cards in one year and friendly but entirely unhelpful support. My last straw was finally their lack of help after being a loyal and good standing customer of theirs for so long when I fell on some hard times. They were the only bank that was absolutely unwilling to help me during my time of hardship, while all other credit/loan companies went over and beyond. They have always taken all the money that they can as soon as they could and charged abundant penalties with no remorse. While they were not obligated to help me, given our history and that everyone else was happy to do so, I will not be back in the future as I begin to grow my family and business and would like to know that my bank is more friendly and supportive in the future. I have banked with capital one for almost as long via their credit line and have had nothing but good reviews, no fees, better support (both over the phone and virtually), better interest rates, more forgiveness and ability to work with me in pursuing my financial goals and obligations. I have now opened my debit and savings with them, and will not be back here. read more

Small town bank with a corporate bank mentality. I've had an auto loan with them for almost 4 years. I've never been late. in fact, I've always paid early. Without notice, they changed their online presence. I was unable to make a payment, but doubled up the following month. They charged me $30 for being late. I asked them to waive the fee due to them changing their website. I was told too bad, so sad. No personality. Absolute trash. I have had a mortgage and 3.8% fixed 30 year and seemingly every month im getting letters about owing extra or changed to amounts i owe. No one can answer why. They change rates when their reps tell you no nothing will change. Total trash! If you want a loan go elsewhere! The customer service reps have no idea what they are doing different answer anytime i call. After having a loan with them for just a year i am already looking at going elsewhere from all the issues ive had with 0 explanation and i ALWAYS pay on time. They also send paper bills showing 1 amount due but online banking shows a totally different amount due so which is it!? If you're going to try and update your banking systems to stay with the times, make sure you're being customer friendly while doing so. Think twice before using this institution. The practices are outside of the industry standard. I opened a CD in 2020 with this credit union and was never notified of the maturity date. It automatically rolled over and the interest earned was less than advertised. I contacted them to do a wire transfer since this institution is so backward that there is no ability to link outside accounts and do direct transfers and a "ticket" was opened. 4 days later...no wire transfer and no one had even reviewed my request. My wife and I purchased a car for our daughter and the note was financed through TDECU (not our choice and never heard of this institution before). If we are a day late on the monthly car payment (which takes 10 days to clear from our bank to TDECU because they don't seem to have the internet at TDECU), our home and cell phones ring nonstop with collection efforts (this is on a used car worth $5,000, mind you). We have received 40 collection calls this week for a payment that cleared 5 days ago. This is truly the most aggressive financial institution I have ever interacted with. It's really nuts. I truly feel sorry for the folks who have to rely on this company for real financial products, like mortgages or savings accounts, What a nightmare it must be to deal with this company on a daily basis. I have an auto loan with this company. First of all, it took forever to figure out that my loan was with them, I purchased my vehicle from a dealership and they failed to provide me with details (my fault for not getting more info, I just figured we would be getting payment info mailed to us as that's been the process for other loans). Once I realized my loan was with this company, I tried to create an online log in. You cannot without a Member ID, which I do not have because I do not bank with them. I called and was told to go to the local branch to get the Member ID they can't give to you over the phone. That is not an option as the closest branch is over200 miles away. I was instructed that I could make my payment on their website, but would not be able to see my account details without a member ID. So I asked for payment stubs to mail in my payment, on 2 different occasions while I made my first 3 payments online. They could not mail my payment voucher to me because the address was different, yet they wouldn't tell me what the address they had on file was. I had to complete a Docusign to change the address and receive the payment vouchers. Finally we received the payment vouchers, made a payment, and now we receive a late notice. I still can't log into an online account, I have requested for someone to please send me my Member ID so I can log in and see what is going on. I have requested this 4 times and am still waiting on a returned call. They explained the late charged was for auto insurance. Our insurance expired and renewed without a lapse, and I have yet to receive any correspondence requesting verification of coverage. I verified my email and address with the representative and they confirmed that is what they have on file. There is no way I would ever recommend doing business with this company. We are in month 5 of this loan and it has been nothing but frustrating. We have a credit score of over 800 and are determined to keep it that way. This company almost seems like they want you to default in order to charge some kind of fees. The cooperation level and help is impossible. Still waiting on that call from customer service..... I give them zero starts!!!!! This used to be a good bank but Something happened. Do NOT ever use this bank for anything this bank uses punishment tactics if your late on payment. This bank will cut your debit cards off not accept a payment, & will make your credit score as low as they can, they will send people to your house & use scare tactics. My husband travels everyday (one & a half hours) for work they have cut his card off & he's been stranded & had to wait till I could bring him cash on the wrong side of town because we got behind. We used to be good about everything getting paid on time....but We've been struggling due to Covid. My sister moved in with her young son we've been supporting them as well as our college student child who still lives at home & is fully supported by us...not to mention I had Covid & was out of work I was still receiving a paycheck but I had a lot of doctors visits & had to pay for extra medications due to high blood pressure & heart problems my sister had it as well so our grocery bill was doubled because everyone was at home in quarantine (me, my child, my husband, my sister, & het son). I explained this to them they do not care. They also look at your social media page because when we finally broke down & went on a few cheep camping vacations they attacked us as soon as we returned home by not letting me make payments & sent people to my house. I had been a member since 2012. This past year, however, I have seen a horrendous downturn in my experience. Where to start? First off, being told that we had the ability to turn on/off debit cards (something many banks/CUs do now).. only to get my card back and find out I was told incorrectly. That blows. Second, getting my account frozen 3 times for going to Houston... HOUSTON... I live in Dallas. Like, guys I get security but that is ridiculous. My partner has attempted 5 times to change his address.. it has yet to be accounted for in the system. FIVE TIMES. Also, mobile deposit. Many banks have had this for some time, but TDECU just can't seem to get it right. I tried time and again to do it, only to either have the check refused or take 2 weeks to deposit. Gave up on that 'feature.' And lastly, the change in concierge service for direct deposit / auto draft: Apparently, at the beginning of the year, we were sent letters that detailed how TDECU would no longer accept the above services when tied to our member numbers. Now, while this isn't a big deal, I was sent a SINGLE letter - to an old address 30 miles away. Mind you, I get texts, calls, and emails for everything under the sun. They let me know when I can get a new loan (woohoo), when my statement is available, etc.... BUT NOT FOR CHANGING MY ACCOUNT NUMBER NEEDED FOR DIRECT DEPOSIT. So guess what? All of a sudden I didn't have a paycheck and was past due on several bills. And you know what I got for 6 years and shitty service? "Well, you should have read the letter." OH. Is that it? I should have read the letter, huh? The one that never made it to my current address because YOU NEVER UPDATED LIKE WE REQUESTED FIVE TIMES.
