Disappointing Service Friction and Process Errors…read more On March 25th, I requested a straightforward fund switch through the investment mutual fund CIBC/SIMPLII FINANCIAL call center. Despite reviewing the Fund Facts with the agent, the trade was processed incorrectly. It took until first week of May and over three hours of my time spread over March, April and May on multiple phone calls to resolve this, as I was forced to navigate a one-way communication system where I could not call agents back directly. Despite the now compounding complications due to impacting three funds I hold, the supervisor demonstrated professionalism to his best ability given the circumstances; however, the resolution process involved significant and avoidable friction. Being told there was confusion from both parties about my own instructions, only for them to to find out about their own error, was particularly a let down. I value my relationship with CIBC, but the administrative burden placed on the client to fix a bank error was significant. I am hoping CIBC takes this feedback seriously to improve their internal records and communication accessibility. I am prepared to update this rating once CIBC demonstrates proper service recovery and accountability for this significant loss of personal time and effort.

I wanted to withdraw $20 USD for parking at the Wild game. Without letting me know on the screen which currency would be dispensed, it gave me $20 CAD. I explained my situation to the CIBC employee who was on staff. She said that the minimum was $60 USD to withdraw from the machine. I didn't see that anywhere. I asked if she could help me deposit my CAD back into my account. She directed me to the currency exchange across from CIBC. Not good. Is that the norm? I confronted her. I asked if she could help me. She asked whether I wanted CAD to spend here. Her listening skills were horrible. I'm in a US terminal flying out. I said they I needed USD funds. She became defensive and stuck to her tagline that the minimum withdrawal was $60 USD and that I was being unreasonable. She then turned the tables on me and said that she was helping me. How? She never said that she could help deposit my money back into my account. I told her to forget it. That was when she said that she would break protocol and do it for me. What? Out of the goodness of your cold, steel heart? You know what, woman? You missed your window of opportunity. Perhaps working on your customer service skills by helping a traveller and CIBC customer out should have been your focus, rather than saying, "Too late." Your holier-than-thou attitude wasn't helpful. Luckily, I can withdraw funds at an ATM in the States at another bank without any fees, so I'm okay. I really liked coming to this CIBC, as it was convenient while waiting to board my flight. Sadly, when a problem arose from a customer at this location, this person at CIBC failed miserably at addressing a solution. (91)

I haven't paid much attention to this CIBC during past visits to this plaza. I didn't have any banking to do, but I was curious about it yesterday. This branch has traditional banking hours. It's open at 9:30 am and closes at 5 pm most days, except for Saturday when it closes an hour early. I was in front of this bank roughly half an hour before it closed for the weekend. You're out of luck banking here on Sundays. The branch is closed. However, accessing an ATM is always available. When you enter the branch, the two ATMs are on the left. No one was using them yesterday. It was pretty quiet. This CIBC doesn't have a drive-thru. Perhaps one could be developed behind the building if there is demand for it. It's nice to know that there's a CIBC in this plaza. There is lots of parking available. If you do need to speak to a human, you'll need to drop by during normal banking hours. (136)

On Wednesday evening, I was in the area. I needed to deposit some cash. I spotted this Scotiabank. Perfect! I normally hit the drive-thru, which this branch has. For some reason, I was possessed to park my car in the parking area in front of this branch and walk in to use one of the ABMs. Bad move. I looked at the two signs on the branch's door. There was one sign for ABM hours of operation. I looked at the branches hours of operation. Both were identical. What a bummer. I guess that if you don't have a car and need to use the ABM, you can just walk up to the drive-thru one to do your banking. You just need to exercise caution that you are sharing the drive-thru with vehicles. I got back into my car and hit the drive-thru. It appeared that you have Cantonese support at this branch when it's open, as some of its services were written in both English and Cantonese. I pulled up to the ABM. I would have been sad if the ABM was not operational and I couldn't use any of the ABMs in the branch when it's closed. Luckily, the drive-thru one was working. I have a Tangerine debit card, so I can use it at any Scotiabank to do my banking. I had my bills deposited to my chequing account. Done! It was nice dropping by. It's a shame that you can't use the ABMs in the branch after the bank has closed for the day. At least there's the drive-thru ABM that's available. (270)

Two hours later we notice a debit of $720 entitled 'mortgage payment'. We knew this was an error as we had just paid our mortgage a few days ago, as well, this amount was completely different to our usual payment. We call the Scotia hotline and are told there is nothing they can do, we need to go to the branch. Drive all the way over there to be told 'sorry, its human error. The teller accidentally paid someone's mortgage from your account after you left as the account wasn't logged out of'. Um, what? You're a bank and you can't ensure that you log out of patrons accounts before completing the next transaction. A complete waste of our evening rectifying this. I understand, to an extent, human error, but this is just idiocy and scary to think of how many people get fleeced by such 'errors'
