Went to greenfield savings bank in greenfield today to deposit come cash. I know for sure I had 445…read moredollars to deposit and when the machine counted my money, the lady said there was only 400. I remember counting 69-$5 dollar bills and 5-&20 bills. I'm pretty sure some of the 5's were stuck together as I had not touched or taken any money to use before my deposit. So the teller hits the end button so the money is not put into the machine and they couldn't get it back to me and she says, I counted 400 and your slip says 445. I said ok can I get my money back to recount and she couldn't because she already hit the enter/end button. Why would you do that if you knew the slip wasn't matching. I guarantee you that at the end of the night when she goes to make her count, she will be over by 45 dollars. I had to swallow that and walk out of the branch. First and last time I'll be going there.

I have only been inside the branch once, but when I did enter the lobby, the staff was extremely polite. The team here was efficient and got me in and out the door quickly. In the end, I love both Co-op branches in town and this particular branch is great.

The business loan was declined, as it "did not work on paper". I obtained the loan through Greenfield Savings, and my business has been thriving. The auto loan could not be processed, because the loan officer required some sort of documentation, that no other bank required. I obtained that loan through Triangle Credit Union in New Hampshire. A bank that I had never even heard of before. Sadly, I have attempted to do business with this LOCAL bank, and have been all but chased away from them. I like to keep my business local. I wished they felt the same way.

My fiancee and I applied for a solar loan at Franklin First in Greenfield, MA. For many years, we…read morehad both done little to nothing to use credit, because of our conservative personal views on finance. We didn't really want to get a loan, as we are both debt-adverse, but we REALLY wanted to go solar. So we viewed it as being for a good cause. To our surprise, we were approved for the loan. Subsequently, we put some of our own money and a LOT of our own labor toward getting ready to have solar installed on our barn. Four months later, when the solar installer was ready to take the first major payment, our loan was denied for reasons we had nothing to do with. I realize that all banks follow the credit system that our country is - to be blunt - enslaved to, but there is no law requiring banks to behave this way. Being a credit union, these people could have chosen to be better. They could have chosen to think, "we approved a loan for this middle-aged disabled couple, who then spent some of their own money in preparation for this project - which they will now never get back - and so we will do the honorable thing and move forward with the loan." But they didn't. They tried to offer us a HELOC, which we both found disgusting, to be honest. We are fortunate to own our home free and clear. Why on this earth would we put a mortgage on our home when we have none to begin with? The point is, you can't lay out a rug for decent, honest people - people who can provably pay their bills on time every month - and then when something changes beyond the control of those people, yank that rug out and send them tumbling. Not if they want those people to say something nice about the bank. This bank won't look out for you and treat you like a human being any more than the large corporate banks will.

Everything was fine at first, but then the bank changed their debit card provider. Payments I had been habitually making with no issues suddenly resulted in my card being automatically paused simply because the charges were not from within the country. It did not matter that there were existing records, as well as my written statement, that these charges were intentional and approved by me. If I had not learned about Privacy.com, I would have left the bank right then and there, but Privacy allowed me to continue using this bank without having to deal with their new, inflexible and unreasonable system. Fast forward a few years when I was several hours away from home, on vacation, celebrating an anniversary with my wife. I messaged them to ask - merely to ask - about their procedure for contesting a specific charge. There was no security breach with my card. I knew what had happened. (Long story short, a company I once used was acquired and the new company switched all accounts to auto-renew. All I needed was to dispute this one charge.) Greenfield Cooperative immediately closed my card with no notice, cutting me off from my funds while I was away from home. I was not expecting such unreasonable and drastic behavior. I did not report fraud or a security breach. I only found out that my card had been closed - closed, not paused - when I attempted to use my card shortly after my inquiry. When I called the bank, they kept repeating themselves. "I'm sorry, but we have to close a card when fraud is reported." Nothing I said mattered, included the fact that I did not actually report fraud, and that I was away from home with no access to my own money. Needless to say, I was extremely upset. The bank ended up allowing my card to withdraw cash, and that's what I did. It put a huge damper on our anniversary trip. The day after we got home, we went straight to another bank and opened an account, and shortly thereafter my wife and I both closed our Greenfield Cooperative accounts. One cannot stay with a bank that cannot be trusted not to strand their customers on vacation, especially when the customer has multiple disabilities, as I do. If you're considering this bank - don't. If you're an existing customer - watch your back.

Every time I come into this bank I am excited and surprised at how polite and professional the employees are here. They are always extremely helpful and make banking here easy. I also like their ATM because it is centrally located on Federal Street. Usually there are no lines here and it's easy to get in and out when in a hurry. Overall, I really enjoy using this bank and will continue to stop here because of the amazing experiences I have had up to this point.

This location also recently upgraded to the new system where you swipe your card to complete transactions rather than filling out slips. In the end, we enjoy banking at this location and appreciate the staff that work here.
