Greenfield Savings Bank - Mansion House

Greenfield Savings Bank

It pays to bank locally; I ADORE this bank, and I don't say that lightly. They have Zelle, I've…read morenever gotten a ridiculous overdraft fee, tellers are lovely and they use a competitor to ChexSystems (a nightmarish CRA) when opening accounts, their telephone customer service is friendly (although inconveniently not open on Sundays) and the bank's president Mr. Howland regularly makes generous contributions to local events, culture and charity drives. There are also a lot of fun local historical artifacts both related to banking and Greenfield in general on display in the lobby and they have free coffee if you have to wait. They also have the best local ATM network, with locations all over Franklin County. When I am less poor and my credit is better, I hope to finance a home through them, as they offer a generous down payment assistance program to first time home buyers. Bottom line: Of the three banks on Federal Street, GSB is by far the best option and it's probably my favorite FI in the region. On the former site of the 'Mansion House', which burned in 1959 and originally housed the bank in its early days (pictured).

Greenfield Savings Bank, Michelle Laurie, and Mark Grimoli lied to me when originating a business…read moreloan. I am an investor and supporter of a small business in Franklin County. I brought the business owners to GSB to obtain a loan to purchase the assets of an existing restaurant. During that underwriting, we were promised a speedy loan process and closing. I offered my personal guaranty, and as part of that, a CD was pledged as collateral that exceeded the value of the loan from GSB, making them fully secured multiple times over. Despite the excess collateral and guarantees on the loan, it funded 8 weeks later than promised. I was told, in no uncertain words, that after 2 years of loan performance on a 5-year note, my funds in the CD would be released to me as they were excess collateral. I requested the release of funds since June of 2026 and was told multiple times on the phone, via text, and email that releasing the funds would be no problem. However, as of the time of this complaint, I finally heard back (5 months after my initial request), and they denied my claim, citing business performance metrics that were never previously discussed as requirements. I have a small stash of the unprofessional lack of follow-through and communication. I had to almost demand any communication GSB still has adequate collateral and personal guarantees to support a very small loan. Despite their multiple representations, they have decided to lie and hold my funds hostage. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS BANK. DO NOT BANK HERE, DO NOT BORROW MONEY HERE - THEY WILL LIE TO YOU, FUND LATE, AND NOT FUND UNDER THE ARRANGEMENTS THEY DISCUSS.

I opened an account at Greenfield Cooperative when I moved to the area, based on reviews I was able…read moreto find. Everything was fine at first, but then the bank changed their debit card provider. Payments I had been habitually making with no issues suddenly resulted in my card being automatically paused simply because the charges were not from within the country. It did not matter that there were existing records, as well as my written statement, that these charges were intentional and approved by me. If I had not learned about Privacy.com, I would have left the bank right then and there, but Privacy allowed me to continue using this bank without having to deal with their new, inflexible and unreasonable system. Fast forward a few years when I was several hours away from home, on vacation, celebrating an anniversary with my wife. I messaged them to ask - merely to ask - about their procedure for contesting a specific charge. There was no security breach with my card. I knew what had happened. (Long story short, a company I once used was acquired and the new company switched all accounts to auto-renew. All I needed was to dispute this one charge.) Greenfield Cooperative immediately closed my card with no notice, cutting me off from my funds while I was away from home. I was not expecting such unreasonable and drastic behavior. I did not report fraud or a security breach. I only found out that my card had been closed - closed, not paused - when I attempted to use my card shortly after my inquiry. When I called the bank, they kept repeating themselves. "I'm sorry, but we have to close a card when fraud is reported." Nothing I said mattered, included the fact that I did not actually report fraud, and that I was away from home with no access to my own money. Needless to say, I was extremely upset. The bank ended up allowing my card to withdraw cash, and that's what I did. It put a huge damper on our anniversary trip. The day after we got home, we went straight to another bank and opened an account, and shortly thereafter my wife and I both closed our Greenfield Cooperative accounts. One cannot stay with a bank that cannot be trusted not to strand their customers on vacation, especially when the customer has multiple disabilities, as I do. If you're considering this bank - don't. If you're an existing customer - watch your back.

Every time I come into this bank I am excited and surprised at how polite and professional the employees are here. They are always extremely helpful and make banking here easy. I also like their ATM because it is centrally located on Federal Street. Usually there are no lines here and it's easy to get in and out when in a hurry. Overall, I really enjoy using this bank and will continue to stop here because of the amazing experiences I have had up to this point.
