Parama is the best kept secret in banking in Toronto!!…read more Why would you continue banking with one of the big banks when you can get all this from Parama for free, on a clear conscience? It's a small, community based credit union, and of course you have a say in how it's run. And also you get returned a share of the profits! In 2013, they returned something like $250,000 to their members. I originally signed up to this bank because I saw a sign that said they offer free chequing while passing by on the Bloor night bus. I think one of the reasons that this place is a secret is because the hundreds of thousands of people passing underneath it every day don't see this sign. Here are some of the things you get for free that you don't get anywhere else: -Free certified cheques and Money Orders (!) -Free regular cheques -Free pretty much everything else! -Teller service, if you want it -Free use of The Exchange ATMs across the country; you probably have one around the corner and you don't even know it yet... -Only $2 to use Mastercard ATMs in any other country in the world - that's cheaper than they advertise! Potential barriers: -Both branches are in Etobicoke along the Bloor subway line. I live in Vancouver now, though, and that hasn't really stopped me from enjoying their services. -You have to buy a $40 share to join. But you would get the money back if you wanted to leave.

Having worked in the financial industry for over 7 years in a previous career, I feel as if I'm at…read morea disadvantage going into the bank. I answer my own questions. I wish I had the TDCT system on my home computer. This way I can complete my transactions faster. It would save me a heck of allot more time doing my own RSP and mutual fund investing. Why do they constantly book my appointment with a non-mutual fund rep when it clearly states on my profile that my RSPs are in mutual fund accounts? From what I recall, whenever someone calls in to make an RSP appointment, the staff member who answered the phone is to look at the customer's profile quickly to ensure the appointment is booked with the appropriate service rep. Well whatever. Each time I call, I assume they have completed the proper research to book the appointment. I shouldn't bother giving them the benefit of the doubt. But stupid me, I do. And repeatedly, each time I come in, that individual I'm booked with can not complete my transaction in front of me and needs to forward my request to someone else. Any normal person would be annoyed. Then again... I'm not normal. (Haha!) But regardless of the lack of real time service, the staff have been always been friendly, easy to get along with and have always communicated to me articulately on why someone else will have to complete the transaction. This is key. It's all in the communication. And this branch has always proved TDCT deserves my business even if they fail in booking my appointments with the correct person. Btw, the majority of this branch's clients are business customers. Therefore during the busy times such as RSP deadline day, there will always be someone available to help you with your contribution. Great location to avoid personal banking investing line ups.

I should first give you a bit of history with TD and what my expectations were:…read more Last year I decided to go back to school. Hubby and I took this opportunity to build a relationship with a new bank and we picked TD because their hours were better (and I wanted a free iPod, lol). We started at the Jackson Road location and the service was impeccable. Our advisor, Matt, was personable, quick and very knowledgeable. Shortly after, Matt left the branch the experience went downhill from there. We decided to try a new location and start from scratch; after all this was not a new application, it was just a loan renewal. I am sad to say that although our new advisor was more competent the service still fell short. We went in Friday of a long weekend to re-apply. The advisor went though all the paperwork and explained to me what my new interest payments should be. The number she quoted me seemed unreasonably high (more than 4 times what I was paying now even though I was only doubling the original amount). She acknowledged the mistake but was unable to give me a straight answer on what the final monthly interest would be. Once the application was complete, she said she would do her best to give us an answer the same day. Because Monday was a holiday, she warned me that is may take up until Wednesday to get a response (fair enough). I didn't hear back Friday so I assumed we'd be notified Wednesday. Wednesday comes... nothing, Thursday... nadda, Friday...FML. At this point we had called our advisor three times and left 2 voicemails (my tuition was due soon). We get a call back Friday at 4pm telling us that the application was rejected but that she thinks it was an error (yeah it better be!) Two days later we get a callback saying all is approved and we can go into the branch to sign the final paperwork. I guess next year I will seek out a more reliable advisor. I don't mind waiting... I mean shit happens but if you tell me I should hear back from you Wednesday and you don't bother to call me to tell me there has been a delay in the process, I am not cool with that.

I've dealt with this bank a few times, and while I have enjoyed its drive-through bank machines when it comes to accessing my President's Choice bank account, whenever I've held CIBC bank accounts at this branch, and dealt with people within it, I've had problems. I made an appointment during my lunch break a few weeks ago, to open a new bank account with them. When I arrived there a few minutes early, I ended up having to wait 15-20 minutes until the person I had made the appointment with arrived. Then, when she did arrive, while setting me up with me account, she asked me if I wanted a copy of "this form." I asked her which form she was referring to, and she held it the same distance away, and made no effort to help me see what she was referring to, while pointing to the form, and repeating "this form." At the end, the only paper work I did end up getting consisted of the papers explaining the promotion they had on the bank account I was opening :-s She also told me that I would be able to bring a cheque from the President's Choice bank account, and have it associated to my CIBC account. When I did that a few days later, I was told that it was not possible. I was promised a call-back from her, as I happened to be there on her day off, and that never ended up happening. All-in-all, I must say that I am far from happy with the branch. I am looking for a good financial adviser, and will be checking other branches in attempt to find one that actually respects my time, and sticks to his/her word. Other than for the purposes of using its ATMs, I strongly doubt I will be returning to this branch.
