This review lands somewhere between a low 4 and a 2-star. It's actually kind of hard to go one way or the other because for all intents and purposes until a recent unfavourable experience (which I'll go into), I liked this branch.
As the other person who reviewed them mentioned, it's a clean, bright fairly new branch with lots of friendly customer service/tellers working here. Always very helpful and always friendly. The branch is more of an open concept with the more sales focused folks (mortages, loans, etc) sitting in semi-private open offices as opposed to closed-door offices. It has free coffee and water for guests and a comfortable lounge to sit in and watch television when you're waiting for an appointment.
I'm a long time TD customer so I've come to expect these sorts of comforts and innovations. What wasn't at the TD level of performance was my our recent experience applying for a loan product. With wedding and baby on the way and with my fiancee working less due to being back in school our financial advisor had said, having an unsecured LOC would be good - even though we didn't need it to have as a safety net.
We set up and appointment in early July and came prepared with all our paperwork. The service was friendly and helpful and we were told excitedly that we were actually approved for double what we had come in looking for. We parted ways after signing the paper work being told that we'd be getting a call back to come in sign off on the final paper work within a week.
Fast forward a month, and after numerous calls and emails to the same advisor with ZERO responses, I used twitter to tweet at the advisor and finally got a response telling me that not only were we not approved for the amount she told us but we were declined entirely.
This began a lengthy back and forth with the advisor, the branch manager... and when I say back and forth, I really mean we got back to them and then they seldom followed up in an equally timely manner.
After another month of calls, emails, periods of silence and eventual tweets to get attention, something must have happened because we were told we were able to get a courtesy loan for 1/2 of what we came in for and 1/4 what we were apparently approved for. Kind of disappointing after all this effort.
We considered our options and did accept it in the end BUT the experience has really soured me on the actual customer service that TD provides. Sure surface level transactional service which has you in and out in minutes is easy to fake on the surface level but where a company really shows there metal, in my opinion, is how they dig deep and handle these tougher conversations and situations.
I recently came into some investment gains that I am planning on reinvesting, the natural thing would be to put it into existing TD RSP and TFSA accounts but after this experience, I do not have confidence that they're a branch capable of, nor do I want them, handling my more intricate financial planning needs.
I'll remain a TD customer because as with most situations it's better the devil you know than the one you don't and now I really know their dark sides so at least I'm prepared. read more
