We found Taylor's while staying within walking distance in downtown Milwaukee and had such a blast meeting locals and hanging out at this lowkey spot. Such good vibes - dimly lit, sports on TV, quality drinks, and chill music. The staff were friendly and welcoming. My boyfriend enjoyed a few local WI tap beers, and I had two cocktails - a seasonal apple cider one and a Buffalo Trace old fashioned - both were excellent. Perfect place to unwind and feel like part of the neighborhood for a night! We loved the Halloween decorations too, glad we came on a less busy night. read more

I LOVE Taylor's! It's a great go-to happy hour spot for me and my many work and play endeavors. Also, my absolute favorite dirty gin martini can be found here. Asking for the blue cheese stuffed olives is perfection! I've searched far and wide throughout the city and, hands down, this is consistently the spot that delivers delicious drinks EVERY SINGLE TIME. Sharon and Rainy kill it slinging solid drinks and positive vibes over the countless times my colleagues and I have come here throughout the years. Service was a little slow- we were catching up with some friends, and when we ordered our drinks it took a while to get them. We ordered another round and there was quite a difference between the two (same) drinks I had. Both were great! Just not the exact same which you expect when ordered the same drink. It was a quiet, intimate space. We were supposed to scan to get the menu but couldn't find the QR code- so we googled the menu. Overall would go back! read more

Taylor's is a go to spot for me- especially in the summer. I love the outdoor vibe when it's warm, but the indoor vibe is (though much different) fun in the winter. They have awesome cocktails and bartenders can typically make any drink you're interested in. They also have a great happy hour. I'd you're hungry, they do have a few Pinsa flatbreads that are great to munch on while you're drinking. If you sit outside, there is waiter service that comes to your table (even if it's just drinks). If you'd rather hang out at the bar- that's an option too! Overall great place. One thing I'd love if they did is turn their music down or off during jazz in the park since it's right there and you can then hear the jazz! read more

Taylors has been around for soooo many years and has truly stood the test of time. I've been here many, many times and still go! Given these facts I'd have to say Taylor's gets all the stars as it's still a favorite hangout of mine in MKE. The crowd can depend, it's quite diverse. It's unique & trendy and they always have the coolest lounge music playing in the background. The Happy Hour is pretty nice, they have $1 off tap beers and certain wines, as well as $3.50 off certain mixers. They also bring in food snacks that are served. read more

I've been to many professional events and upscale bars. This one is a disaster. They lie about the amount they charge you (after you wait around 10 mins to close the bill), then add additional charges after you give them your credit card and then call you a Karen after you get the bill and dispute it calmly. I've never been more insulted in my life. The bartender is a jerk and this business frankly doesn't deserve anyone's service. Edit: After looking at reviews it mentioned that Brandon steals from you and guess who was my bartender? Brandon! Telling me it was $16 total then charging me $19 two seconds later is nuts for me buying two drinks. He is completely nuts. Edit 2: Oh, also their website says $3 tap beers on Sunday. Kind of the quintessential Cathedral Square bar. It's a great place to go after Jazz in the Park. The drink prices seem a little more reasonable than at some of the surrounding establishments. And the crowd really does vary. The first time I went in it was mainly a younger crowd--possibly because it was after Jazz in the Park. But on my next visit most of the people there were older than me. Sometimes it's kind of a fancier crowd and sometimes more casual. I think it probably changes based on time of day, time of year, etc. The bartenders have always been nice. So I should have read the reviews before I made an early-evening visit last night because I didn't know about the happy hour. I work on the other side of town so it's rare I can make it downtown-ish still in time for happy hour. Most places give you a little discount on drinks but I didn't know the food was free. I thought maybe some people had brought it in for a work get-together. I was only there for one drink before my brow wax appointment down the street anyway so it wasn't a huge loss. But now I know: they have free cheese, crackers, pretzels, and sausage at happy hour. The restroom is in the basement, so be prepared to walk up and down the stairs a lot if you stay awhile. read more

Be sure to ask about how to still get a nice drink at the Happy Hour price by swapping out different liquors. Came in on a Thursday at 7:50 pm for a cocktail, apparently happy hour ends at 8pm. No one, and I mean no one was at the bar yet we weren't served until 8:03 and Happy Hour was "over". While we weren't served, numerous people came into the bar and were served. Honestly, you can't miss me with my bright blue shirt on. To make things worse, a bartender said to me "I can only work so fast." Bitch you obviously worked to serve several other people before me. Very disappointed in the attitude being thrown by the one, taller skinnier bartender. Actually was bitchy to me. Come on!!! I simply sat at the bar and wanted a drink. Best happy hour in town because it has complimentary cheese, sausage, crackers, and pretzels everyday until it runs out! Bar staff is always friendly and definitely pour a good size glass of wine that I love! Good deals during happy hour in general. We always have a great time at Taylor's. The drinks are fantastic, and the staff is super friendly and fun. Service is quick and atmosphere is comfortable- it is chill and jazzy during happy hour and lively on weekend nights. Their DJs always play a good mix of music and I like the mix of people that come in. Taylor's is an icon of the Jefferson square area and I miss being part of the regular crowd. After an hour of sitting around a table and ordering from the bar, we were told we are not allowed to order from the bar and have to order from our table waitress who we hadn't seen in the hour we were there. We then proceeded to get ushered away from the bar because we were blocking the bar. Overall seemed very patriarchal and political in terms of who was getting served and on whose terms. The employees here embody the Wisconsin hospitality that you will get no where else in the country. I visited this bar for New Years Eve and lost my entire wallet with essentially my life in there, including my ID I needed to get on the plane to get home (CA), cash, my debt card, etc. New Years Day, a door man found my wallet, and an employee that was working all night actually waited until 9:30 am when I was able to pick up my wallet. Every single thing was in there. He refused to take $20, and all he asked in return is to visit this bar again. Not only do praise the employees here, I highly recommend this type of place if you are looking for bar that has good music to dance to, decent price drinks, but also there is enough room to sit and chill and converse with your friends. New Years Eve was crowed (as expected) but I easily found a place to sit and could easily order a drink. If you're over the crazy, disgusting, crowded bar scene, but still want to go out, I highly recommend Taylor's! This has been the only bar I have visited downtown while in town, and I will definitely be returning. Here's why: --Upscale, elegant atmosphere. High ceilings, a modern bar, and contemporary seating make Taylor's cozy and intimate whether having drinks with coworkers or meeting someone new. Large, open windows and doors give it a vacation vibe with outdoor breezes drifting in and out. The artwork is cool and the music is hip. The servers are always dressed nicely. --Happy hour specials. Great prices on nice glasses of wine, cocktails and craft beers make it fashionable. --Snacks. I love how Taylor's puts out a small buffet of appetizers that you can help yourself to, complimentary, while they last. It's nothing fancy, usually a plate of sliced sausage and cheese, some brie, crackers, and pretzels, but it's a really nice way to show patrons some appreciation. I always feel welcome at Taylor's whether I'm alone or with a group, regardless of what I'm drinking, any night of the week. Somehow, some way, and for some reason, Taylor's has been on my radar for a number of years. This is despite its being located in a specific relative location and having a specific relative vibe (club/dance spot), neither of which have ever been desirable things from my end. The reason Taylor's had been on my radar for so long was due to the fact that - here on Yelp as well as elsewhere - folks raved and raved about their happy hour specials. Seriously... keyword search happy hour on Yelp and Taylor's will pop up every time. So when a friend/collaborator suggested Taylor's for a happy hour meeting two Thursdays ago, it gave me the perfect opportunity to check this whole elusive happy hour unicorn thing out. What would the place be like? What would the clientele be like? Would the deals be incredible? What exactly is this strange place that I'd never been inside but knew existed really all about? Well, I'll tell you what... it's a club-ish-bar-ish type spot with just okay happy hour deals on selections/products that aren't anything special. The wine list was pedestrian at best, the variety + quality of booze included in the happy hour special was nothing too special, and, well, the beer selection wasn't out of this world either. I guess I was a little disappointed. I've seen better happy hours (better products/better deals) many times over all over MKE... so why have I read that Taylor's hh was/is so great? To each their own, I suppose. The rest of the menu yielded clues as to what an actual "night out" here might look like as well. The drinks weren't forged by any sort of "mixologist," (sorry, I bristle at that word), the decor was 2006-trendy, it was dark, and the space was smaller than expected. Do I sound harsh? I don't mean to. This just isn't my sort of place. Redeeming quality: our server was super-great! She was nice and on point. Not the worst, but not a spot I'm rushing to get back to either. Taylors is a place that I hate to like. I've walked by from point A to point C so often, Taylors used to be a good point B, but now it's joining the ranks of A and C! Hope you can follow that. The point is, you simply can't miss Taylors when driving or walking around, and it's difficuly to resist it's siren song. Once inside you will probably stick it out becuase it doesn't try to be much of anything but what it's patrons make of it. It has two bars, although the main bar is better stocked (I believe). I never go to the smaller one, but if push comes to shove you might get a drink quicker. The prices are pretty standard prices for the area, around $4 for a tap beer, around $8 dollars for a martini. If you can get there during happy hour which goes until 8, you should find some good deals. Even after 8, ask your server, there might be a special. The bartenders and wait staff are good at what they do, and you always see the same ones there, which is nice. It's often a good mix of cool people and people that hate cool people, so if you're in one of those classes, you'll be among friends. read more

Alright if I had to solely rate the Key Lime Pie Martini at Taylor's, Yelp would need a new star system. It is out of this world. As a bartender, from a previous life, I have made my fair share of "designer martinis" but this one takes the cake, or pie that is. Whenever I am in Milwaukee this is one of the first places I go to start the night. But I should mention, Taylor's doesn't try to be anything it isn't. It's a lofty-soho-trendy bar that attracts the same kind of people who want to be seen at a bar like this. I will say this, the fake tans and designers impostor threads that seem to occupy every other seat in the martini bar haven't once ever offended me or been inappropriate. The wait staff is ridiculously nice and quick to get another drink and they seem to have a knack on understanding why you are there. This may not be your scene, especially if you have any of the following interests: Fantasy Football, natural skin color, or owning clothes from any line other then Ed Hardy. But I have all three and I don't shun away from it. If anything grab a drink (Key Lime Pie Martini, seriously it will change your life), a good seat at the bar and watch the Milwaukee version of Jersey Shore unveil itself. read more

I often wonder if those are the ones that they make those meme's of "I woke up like this" lol God. Those girls are looking for one thing. Watch ur wallet fellas. :) YEAH. I SAID IT. Am I hating? NOPE. Just a quick over view of the scenery I saw this week. And why is everyone always staring at each other in there? ?? The bar is filthy. It smells like it hasn't been cleaned for months. There's a reason that you can't see 2 feet in front of you in there. And it's not ambiance. It's to cover the dirt and grime. It's over-priced. The bouncers are arrogant. The bar staff thinks that they are "gods" because "I bartend at Taylor's ". Can you make a drink? NO. The bartend had to remake my martini 2×. I finally asked him where he got the recipe. He blatantly said "well, our bar manager makes them, but I don't think he tries them". APPARENTLY NOT. No. I'm never going there again. I'd rather go over to Belmont, or Plum. HANG IT UP GUYS. So we get in relatively early for happy hour, and there's regulars at the bar plus other walk-ins like us. Good vibe and kudos for some basic cheese/salamis on the house. I'm giving 2 stars because I felt I was over charged - they list top shelf liquors by name for $4. We ordered 2. My bill was then $13 instead of $8? The waitress, who knew nothing about the pricing asked the bartender, who tells her my wife had a "double" and I had a "triple pour" (whiskey). My wife did order a double & the $2 upcharge is totally reasonable. But I didn't order anything except a regular pour; no place on their menu mentions this for an-on-the-rocks pour. Taylors is one of those rare bar/clubs thats managed to stand the test of time. And I don't go there very much but its a just fine default. Friendly bartenders, no problem getting a drink, good hiphop/pop/dance mix of songs, great location with outdoor tables kiddie corner to cathedral square. The crowd is pretty friendly and while "trendy" kind of sums up the ambience, all kinds of downtown people and tourists seem to come here. This is a good standby spot to stop at during a night out downtown/easttowne. read more

I love happy hours. I used to love a good "blackout" happy hour in my younger days and now I am more of a "Where can a get a good deal and relax" happy hour kind of guy. My solution is Taylor's. $1 off beer and $5-$6 glasses of wine for $4 until 8:00 with complimentary light appetizers set out. We always receive excellent service and friendly conversation from our waitress. Grabbing a drink here always works out well when we grab dinner in Cathedral Square or nearby MKE St. Occasionally, we come later in the evenings during Jazz in the Park season or when we are out with friends. The place does some kind of transformation at ~9 or 10 o'clock and the crowd converts from a "laid back" to a "I think I am awesome and were loud graphic T-shirts" kind of crowd. You pay a high premium for an average stock of scotches. Not trying to be a snob. But I was a little surprised to see a $17 bill for two drinks. I've only been for happy hours, so I can't speak for the "iffy" night crowd some others have mentioned. That said, the happy hour is one of the best deals in town and goes all the way until 8pm. Very attentive and nice bartenders every time I've been. Very nice when the weather allows for their large windows to be open. Nothing over the top. Just a nice bar to drink on the cheap and have some good conversation in a busy area of downtown. read more

My husband and I stumbled in here on our most recent date night. We're new in the area and were wanting to check out Plum but they had a private event going on so we couldn't get in. Anyways, we saw Taylors across the street and figured we'd check it out. It was really crowded when we got there so getting to the bar was a bit difficult but we managed. Once we found a good spot we ordered a beer and a jack n coke for me. The drinks were pricey ($6 for both of ours) but maaaaaaan was my jack n coke good! It's a great spot for people watching and a great atmosphere with so much going on around you. Taylor's has one of the best happy hours and even puts out cheese and cracker trays for free!!!
