The owners Georgia and Peter were incredibly supportive, and gave sage advice throughout our planning process. In addition, Alyson, who handles the emails for the farm, was always incredibly quick to provide responses to our questions, and was a pleasure to communicate with. We visited the venue a couple times throughout 2019 between January and our wedding this past September. It takes some imagination to picture how the grounds would look like on your wedding day, because it transforms so much with each season. However, we thought it was gorgeous and made for a terrific backdrop each time we visited regardless of the season. The farm is between an hour to an hour and a half outside of D.C. so it is a fantastic option for getting a rustic venue space that is still accessible for our friends living in the city and the families flying in to Reagan or Dulles. There is a lot of flexibility for events at East Lynn Farms, which may be a stressor for couples depending on their appetite for DIY versus a turnkey wedding option. The farm includes some decorations and a list of recommended vendors, but we were not restricted to the list as long as the vendors we chose had the appropriate license and insurance. The farm allows you to provide our own beverages for events, and we were able to save quite a bit by sourcing our drinks from Costco rather than ordering through the caterer. My wife and I were initially worried about how hot might be at the tail end of Summer, and we contemplated renting fans or A/C units for the wedding. Thankfully, Georgia advised us that the surrounding mountains provided the area with a cooler ambient temperature and a reasonable breeze that negated the need for that hefty expense. On our wedding day, the weather was perfect! Even at the peak of the afternoon it never got so hot that it was uncomfortable to wear a suit jacket, and at the end of the night it wasn't so cold that one needed a jacket. There's no limit of the amount of praise and recommendations my wife and I would give to East Lynn! We honestly couldn't have imagined a better place to have our wedding!

They helped me with the wedding ceremony/reception time line, effortlessly moved the events along, and played the songs that we requested. They were able to make song recommendations for my ceremony and found all of my relatively unknown songs and offered a great value! (yes, they have up-lighting). It really helped that they knew our ceremony and reception venue (Lost Creek Winery) like the back of their hand and have a great working relationship with the staff there. Thanks for a memorable evening, it was a true pleasure to work with you.

We were out of towners for our Harpers Ferry wedding and Leanne networked like crazy to help us achieve the wedding of our dreams within our budget. She didn't flinch when we had offbeat ideas and guided us with compassion. There were so many small details that needed to come together for our perfect weekend like renting busses from a local rafting company to get our older and mobility restricted guests up a windy hill to the historic St. Peter's Church. She negotiated a great deal with Town Hall (may it RIP) to have a fantastic welcome party and after brunch with excellent food at a great price. When we experienced friction with dealing with getting clear communication regarding clear pricing with our reception site, Leanne got everyone's feet planted back on the ground in record time. She was loved and respected amongst our vendors like Claire Watson Photography that everyone really rallied to give us a perfect day. She helped us to arrange the most beautiful flowers review with WestVirjeni at a small private so that my sick mom could be a part of the planning process. The day of our wedding, she was nothing short of phenomenal. If anything went wrong, we wouldn't have known about it. We wanted our own private time together before the craziness of the wedding so Leanne personally drove us to the church. Her organization and direct yet respectful communication left no room for error, which is exactly what you want on your wedding day. During the most important times in your life, you want to feel loved and supported, which Leanne has an incredible gift of doing seamlessly. We are so thankful that we found Leanne and will be eternally grateful to her for the memories of our special day we now have.

She offered advice and recommendations about social media posts (eg. "A good caption for this picture would be..." and "this will be a good picture for you to use during this holiday.") We did not know much about planning the shoot so she really held our hands with respect to what we should wear, how our hair/makeup should be and how we should pose (of course). The thing we liked most about Darlene was how "at ease" she put us during what otherwise could have been very awkward shoots. The poses for professional headshots feel awkward unless a kind, friendly, personable person is walking you through the experience. She opened up our home to her, recommended places for off-site shoot and then came to our place of business with the lighting and equipment she needed to liven up the place. Thank you, Darlene!!

Unlike some photographers, Darlene didn't try to force us into purchasing a massive wedding photo package that would have cost more than the rest of the wedding combined. There were a number of things that Karen promised based on her contract that were not fulfilled, and the day was fraught with blunders. The biggest issue being an incorrect itinerary itself that was full of errors. Having a wedding coordinator that doesn't have a correct itinerary sort of defeats the purpose of paying for one. Karen herself was not actually present at our wedding, she sent 2 other ladies who work for her in her stead (maybe part of the problem?). There was a ton of miscommunication, flowers went missing, tasks on the itinerary were not fulfilled, but perhaps the worst of all was Karen's response to our complaints. After the wedding, we wrote her an email to detail the issues. She was immediately suspicious of our complaints, took no responsibility for mistakes, and even blamed me partially for requesting to change a song on the Thursday night before the wedding as a reason the itinerary was wrong. She then listed a number of "extra" services she performed for us as some sort of guilt trip that we got more than we paid for. It was extremely odd. Then after days of no response, she finally wrote us back with emailed responses from her employees about our complaints and said "sounds to me that it was your choice not to enjoy your day and I'm sorry about that." How condescending! Her employees of course denied culpability or did not even respond to some of the issues we brought up. She chose to not take responsibility for errors and to not believe us. It seems like a really poor move for someone who owns a small business. We thought in all common sense she would approach our complaints with some sort of care and concern. Not the case. Watch out if you have legitimate criticisms! They will be explained away/shifted onto someone else. We have evident markers of break of contract, yet she ignored them or denied them. We paid in full before the wedding and tipped her employees at the wedding, because we aren't jerks, but frankly her callous and flippant treatment of us is dumbfounding.

Everything was flavorful, well timed, and beautifully presented. What really stood out was working with Lisa Sheppard and her team. They were friendly, professional, and incredibly calm throughout the entire process. It made such a difference on a busy wedding day to know we were in good hands. The day of the wedding they went above and beyond to get the best shots they could, while being calm, upbeat, and professional. It rained on our wedding day and they did their best to quickly adapt.
