On June 23, 2023, my husband and I were on a cruise ship that docked in Amsterdam, Netherlands. We…read morewalked from the cruise ship to the Anne Frank house and toured it. Then we shopped and took a taxi back to the ship. The taxi's company name was Na Koeriersdienst. When we arrived at the ship, I gave the driver my credit card and asked for a receipt. He replied he couldn't give me one. My assumption was that his card reader couldnt print one. When we boarded our ship, I logged into my credit card website and saw that he had charged me $330.39 for a ride that was maybe 15-20 long. I called my credit card company and after disputing the charge and providing receipts that were time stamped that showed our movements off the ship, as well as a map showing our route walked, our credit card company said that because I could not provide a receipt, there was nothing they could do. When my credit card company contacted the taxi company about the dispute, they provided a receipt with a squiggle for a signature and claimed I had put a PIN in. The driver also claimed I had contracted for a "two hour tour of Amsterdam." I also tried emailing the taxi company and they never responded. So my lesson learned is to ask when I get in a taxi if they're able to provide a receipt and also to take a picture of the driver's license plate. This was very obviously an American in another country being taken advantage of!

We were absolutely ripped off by this company, ordered a taxi for 6 to travel 4.2km, ended up…read moretravelling double that as the driver thought we were stupid tourists, I had checked the Google maps before getting in the taxi & it should of took 13 minutes, we were in the taxi for close to half an hour & encounter hardly any traffic, confronted the driver & he argued that Google map was incorrect, when I took the photo of his vehicle he waved & laughed, please avoid this company & we missed our pre booked tour!! I contacted the company with all my proof, they had no interest in investigating my complaint at all, so they obviously condone this type of behaviour!!

As of April 2026 they use the new EES system making international travel easier and faster. There are plenty of shops and restaurants in the airport which is a plus especially if you arrive early or have a long layover.

The layout of the…read moreairport is incredibly confusing: At pretty much any other modern airport, arriving international passengers are directed straight to immigration, but at Schiphol, they're set free to wander the terminal, shop at duty-free, have a meal, stop at the business class lounge -- whatever. It's chaotic. Then there's the gridlocked passport section itself, with biometric gates only for EU countries, so e-passports from the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, etc., get lumped in with all the rest -- unlike at most airports. With only three windows open, it doesn't help that the officials are so darn chatty, either. The place looks rundown, with lots of strange noises akin to someone rolling giant bowling balls upstairs. The climate control is terrible, too. (That might be connected to the weird noises.) Schiphol actually makes Los Angeles International Airport seem not so shambolic -- that's how bad it is.
