1 bad person: Frank who answers the phones. He reflects bad on the business. He says he gives messages and will emails the CPA, copy me but nothing. He's rude and doesn't do what he says. I was just going to let it go and but I a review is necessary because when I brought it to someone else's attention, they didn't want to address it and I get the feeling that they allow it. I think they need to have a talk with him or let him go if he doesn't change. I wasn't impressed with Julian the CPA either. Also, they charge $100 to file an extension. I file every year and all they do is enter your social security. Most places don't charge. Just letting you know. This type of service leads to problems with taxes. If I could give zero starts I would. I had a horrible experience with TaxesPh.D. (Judy and Irene - the owner) as my tax accountant. Despite providing them with all the necessary documents and information on time, they failed to help us file, resulting in a penalty(s) from the IRS. When my wife tried to contact them for assistance, they were unresponsive and did not seem to care about the situation. They didn't take any responsibility for their mistake or offer compensation or a solution to the problem. To make matters worse, I found out later that there were errors in my tax return that my wife had to fix on her own, which led to more stress and wasted time. You will understand if you read the owner's response to my wife on Yelp reviews. Therefore, I would not recommend Judy or Irene to anyone seeking reliable and responsible tax services. Eileen Jacobs of 'Taxes PhD' warmly greeted me the first time we met and all I could think of was a dumb joke from childhood: What do you call a one legged waitress?  Eileen Where does she work?  IHOP Unfazed, she rolled up the sleeves on her tank top and got to work correcting two years of IRS mess I created.  I just sat back in the chair and let her attack my paperwork and occasionally rattle off an obscure law or two, known to only a few. Meanwhile her dog Nike watches over the proceedings from a corner, getting up to patrol the halls now and then like guard dogs will do. I won't say Nike intimidated me but she did give that 'If you have a problem with Eileen, you have a problem with me' look (as you can see in the photos). She was cool though, and never once whizzed on my sneaks. As my new tax guru chewed the info and spit out numbers, she found I overpaid and got me money back! Whaaaaaaat? I thought I'd get hit with all kinds of penalties and underpayments. I was even prepared to serve time at Leavenworth over this, then Eileen came to the rescue and saved me from that inconvenience. I don't know how this woman deals with the pressure of running a business with 'PhD' in the name knowing that every little mistake, oversight, or typo will be pointed out by the client. I sat there looking for weaknesses and miscalculations but they never came. Eileen is fast, efficient, accurate, and thorough. Not once did I feel she was embezzling me or having me blindly sign papers that give her title to my house. She's honest!  I also have to praise her for being so accessible. Ever dealt with the frustration of an attorney, doctor, or any professional who takes their good old time getting back to you and leaves you hanging for days, looking for answers? If so, you'll appreciate how Eileen is present and replies in a timely manner. I always wonder how they arrive at their fee and suspect that the wealthier you are and the better you dress, the more they charge. That's why I always wear torn blue jeans and a t-shirt to the preparer's office.  But Eileen's prices are competitive and she doesn't try to be ironic by adding tax to your bill. Fact is, her rates are broken down on paper before you sign, so there are no hidden fees. I felt like she gave me a very fair price and plan on going back, should I ever decide to pay taxes again. First of all, I would give this business no stars at all if I could. My husband chose this business based on the good reviews, as neither he or I are tax experts and we wanted to get our taxes prepared by a professional. However, the reason for our lack of expertise is important to mention, as the owner, Eileen Jacobs, told me during our phone conversation that "ignorance is no excuse" This is just one of the reasons why I gave this business zero stars. After hearing this from the owner, I now understand why this business is so unprofessional and lacks the knowledge to help if you are not an expert. Apparently, as I was told by the owner, most of her clients know exactly what they are doing and have the knowledge that they need. I am surprised by this, and am not sure why they are still in business if their clients have the same expertise. The tax preparer my husband met with was Judy Moore. He felt rushed and was told "no" to everything that he inquired about without any questions being asked. He trusted that Judy was a professional and knew what she was doing, so he paid her and she filed. I was very upset when he returned and I called Judy to discuss our deductions and the extension that my husband had asked her to file for us. She agreed that we had several deductions and that she should have asked more questions. She said not to worry that she would ammend our taxes for us. I sent her an email expressing my frustration that she had filed our taxes when my husband had asked for an extension so that we would have time to get everything together. After the email, I recieved a call from Eileen. I explained my frustration and what happened. She could only say that my husband should have known more and that we should have known what to bring in. She made excuse after excuse for the lack of professionalism that we recieved. When you pay someone to get help because you believe that they have the training and experience, you would expect that they would walk you through everything and ask all the pertinent questions to help, instead of rushing you to get their money. I would not reccomend this place, especially if you are in a situation like ours. They will make excuses for everything you ask if you dont know and tell you that ignorance is no excuse. Apparently, you need to have the same knowledge and training that they have and tell them exactly how and what to do to get your taxes done properly. This place is a rip-off, and the job that they did for us could have been done on Turbo Tax and saved us a few hundred bucks. I would not recommend this place unless you are an expert. And, if you are, you can file yourself and save yourself time, money and frustration. Editing after I posted my review. Eileen is quite simply, terrific. Period. You may not like her delivery, her decision-making process, or the manner in which she stays within the bounds of tax law. But when you need your taxes done, and done with your best interests in a professional and expeditions manner, Eileen is your gal. I was formerly with a CPA for over 40 years. He became nonresponsive, consistently late, and unbelievably unorganized. It got worse thru the years and I should of left at least 10 years earlier but I stayed. I had been there so long, I figured he knew me, knew my tax history, starting over would be a pain, etc. etc. It finally became too much, too late, I had enough. For the first time in years, I found myself looking for someone to assist with my taxes. I tried various CPA's, and obtaining an appointment was like pulling teeth. I came across Eileen, probably thru YELP, and began to do a bit of research about her. She was not a CPA. Would I be missing tax benefits if I didn't see a CPA? All in all, reviews for Eileen were stellar and I was losing patience with attempted appointment settings for CPA's hence, I contacted Eileen's office and set up a consultation. No nonsense here as she quickly told me what I can do, what I can't, what makes sense, and what in the world was this thing I called record keeping??? I didn't agree with none of it. In fact, I pretty much disagreed with everything she said. In order to get back on track, Eileen suggested I do A, B, C, and don't forget E, F, and G. She was patient, listened to my complaints, my disagreements, and my overall rational but calmly explained how and what needed to be done and most importantly, why. And yes, it was going to cost me. But it was honest, I felt good, and down deep, I knew I was in good hands. I could trust her and felt she not only knew what she was doing but had my best interests in mind. She explained strategies that would lessen financial tax burdens, what records I needed to maintain, how to effectively organize them, and what I needed to present to her so she could provide the best results possible. In other words, without me doing what I needed to do, how could she? I have grown possess a very healthy respect for Eileen and her overall demeanor and expertise. I have been with her for three years and fully intend to continue. I will still argue with her here and there but to me, she is a consummate professional that will get you back on track and make sure your taxes are in excellent shape. And she will tell you the truth. She is fair, price conscious, and exceptionally good at what she does.
