I've been a business owner for over ten years and I don't think I've ever had a less professional call with someone in a professional field in my entire career. He came very highly recommended as someone who cares deeply about his clients and has experiences unwinding complex tax situations. The conversation we had was the furthest from that I could possibly imagine. Among choice quotes from Jonathan were: - "I can change you five times my normal rate and maybe that will incentivize me to help you" - "When you think about all that you are needing - the returns for the past years, any financial review that may need to happen, and allowing you have less 'hands on' and transferring the 'leg work,' what do you believe the investment should be for this type of service?" He also made it clear that if I worked with him, I should not take reasonable deductions (like contributing to a SEP IRA), because he wouldn't be able to take the time to help me estimate my contribution. He also is clearly uninformed about basic tax rules, like what the deadline for making a SEP IRA contribution is. A two minute google search confirmed this. Which begs the question - what other tax laws and regulations does he not understand? I would have much rather he just said up front "I'm sorry, I'm booked up and I don't have the bandwidth to help you." Instead, the conversation we had was appalling. Also, naked videos on his Facebook page promoting his services as a tax professional? Really?

For 2023, I researched CPAs early in the year and decided to go with Wanda. I spoke with her, she gave me a ballpark price and agreed to review the previous year's tax return and meet with me before doing 2023. Wow! I was in for a rude awakening! I uploaded my information to her 3.5 to 4 weeks before taxes are due. I supplied everything requested. I didn't hear anything from her office for about 2 weeks, then over the course of the last 2 weeks, I would get piece meal requests for information (not originally requested) as if the office/ Wanda was not really focused on my taxes. I FINALLY received my taxes back from them on Friday afternoon, August 12th with taxes due August 15th! I asked if Wanda was going to review them with me, but I was told no because the office was closed for the weekend and I must come in Monday to pay them before they would submit my taxes on Monday, August 15th! I was not even afforded the courtesy of reviewing my taxes with Wanda! My taxes are not complicated, but when I went in Monday, I was required to pay $995.00 (!) for them to submit my taxes on the due date. This amount of money was highway robbery, but what choice did I have because they forced me to the last minute. I asked to file an extension, but they were going to charge me another $250.00 to do that. Additionally, I finally met Wanda when I was making this outrageous payment and I asked her a couple of questions. It became clear to me that she is not the one who really did my taxes. Unfortunately, she did my son's taxes also. He's in his 20s with a meager income and not a complicated return. They finished his taxes about 5 days before August 15th. His invoice was $895! I couldn't believe it! He asked them why it was so high and they said they had accidentally put some of my charges on his bill and lowered it a couple hundred, but still...$695 to do his taxes! I realize she has received other rave reviews, but I would never, ever recommend Wanda O'Malley! I rarely, if ever, write reviews, but I felt this one was important. If I could give zero stars, I would. Steer clear.

I'm actually looking forward to my current CPA's retirement now. Wanda is super approachable. she is an excellent listener who knows how to really be present with the person she is talking to. That alone scores HUGE points in my book. It seems that when most people are in conversation they are thinking about what they want to say next instead of actually engaging and truly listening. SO that tells me that Wanda will be all over the details when it's time to take over our taxes. As a local real estate agent, I get plenty of requests for referrals for various professionals, and it will be a pleasure to refer Wanda E. O'Malley at every opportunity. One last thing to note: I did a little digging, and discovered that not only has Wanda graduated with an accounting degree, she actually graduated as Magna Cum Laude of her class. Pretty impressive. The staff member who assisted me brought me into her office and we went over my information. At the end of the appointment, I understood that I owed taxes, which was fine. no point during the process were the service fees explained to me. As a first-time filer, I was not expecting to pay $270 upfront for that day's assistance. I believe there should have been clearer communication regarding pricing before completing the service. Greater transparency about fees would have helped me make a more informed decision.
