Shorty was so friendly and incredibly thorough especially for such an affordable haircut! I'd definitely recommend this place.

Very friendly, a thorough job, affordable, and, most importantly, a great cut. Definitely will go back.

What hair salon has 5 star reviews that are real? Power Hair…read more Walking into this place is like a breath of fresh air. It's perfect for people like me who are claustrophobic and anxious, there is a lot of open space, it's perfectly decorated, and the stylists are incredibly kind. I came here after seeing Kat's fantasy colors on Instagram and had to give her a shot at my hair. Well, she took my hair from L'Oréal's darkest box dye to a masterpiece I get complimented on daily... twice! I'll never switch salons. On top of that, my bands are incredibly difficult to cut. They always end up raising on the left side because I have a cowlick. Stylist usually keep cutting until my bangs are around lord Farquad length, which I personally don't enjoy on myself. I'm horrible and can't currently remember her name, but the wonderful babe who cut my bangs L i s t e n e d to me and I walked out of there with straight cut bangs that weren't shorter than I asked. I always expect them to get messed up as no one has cut them perfectly in over 10 years. I was so shocked. On top of that the salon is SO CLEAN. I'm a germaphobic creature with OCD, and seeing such a clean, great smelling bathroom is always refreshing. Their decorations are beautiful. You can also get tea and water to keep you hydrated. Thanks for being so dope guys!

Gina did it again! Check out the "messy" bun with front, flapper sweep. She is truly gifted.read more

I've been coming to The Stepping Razor Barbershop for over 4 years now. I live across BK and have…read moreliterally ridden my bike through the WORST rain storms just to get my haircut by Niamh! They are a thoughtful and meticulous barber that has a keen eye for even the tiniest of details. I always get so many compliments on my haircuts and was stopped by a hairstylist the other day to compliment me on how well my hair was cut to fit my face shape. The space itself is always clean and the whole staff is engaging. The shop is a welcome space for queer people and folks of any identity or background. Haircuts are an intimate experience and this shop takes great care ensuring it's clients always feel comfortable and that their presence is appreciated. Cannot recommend this place enough, come through for a great cut from an outstanding crew!

I made an appointment super last minute, and I was grateful that they were able to get me in. I sat…read morein the chair with a guy named William and he asked me what I wanted a couple of times I had to repeat myself, which was not the issue at all, but each time it felt like he was going more and more agitated when I was just trying to be clear because of course I'm not a barber so I don't know terms like "mid low or high fade". I felt him getting increasingly agitated so I just got out of the chair and said thank you and he muttered something along the lines of "youre contradicting yourself and acting like I don't know what I'm doing". It's not that I didn't think he knew what he was doing. I just wanted to make sure I was clear before he started. Seemed very much like he had v little patience but as someone who had never been there before , I didn't go in wanting smoke..I just wanted a haircut. The woman who checked me in was nice though.

I know everyone here raves about her, which is why I decided to give it a go, but, ultimately, I…read morejust couldn't justify the price for the experience. Don't get me wrong, Margaret was super sweet, and my haircut wasn't bad, but if I'm going to cough up $72 (with tip) for a haircut (I know, I know, it's hard to find anything under that these days...) then I want to be absolutely ecstatic about my hair (and my overall experience!), and, well, I wasn't. For getting your hair cut in someone's house, I don't see how one should be expected to pay salon prices. Your hair is rinsed in the kitchen sink. There's no store to pay rent on. No staff to hire. Shouldn't that make the prices a little more reasonable since it's going straight into her pocket? Also, I went in to get my pixie trimmed. I thought that would qualify as a man's cut (I mean, isn't it?) but, alas, I had to pay the "being a woman" tax (but that's a rant for another day...). It's definitely not the best cut I had, though, sure, it's not horrible. Again, Margaret was very nice and she does make her space welcoming and cozy. Ultimately, though, if I'm going to pay that much money, I want the full salon experience and not feel as though I've been jipped.

I had been thinking about going blonde for a while (I'm Asian with dark brown hair), and finally…read moredecided to do so. I have to admit I was really nervous going in, because my hair wasn't in the greatest shape. A year ago, at a different salon, I had a horrible experience that left me with a severe damage line. I really wanted to make the change to blonde, but realized that I'd have to be careful... This translated into me bombarding Margaret with a ton of questions and concerns. At the fancy, expensive salon that I used to go to in Manhattan, I'd sometimes feel like the stylists were snooty and didn't have the patience to answer all my questions. Margaret really took the time to talk me through all of them, being completely realistic and honest about everything from what would look good with my skin tone to how much damage I could expect if I went platinum and what measures I should take to keep my hair healthy. After talking to her and trying out a test strand, I finally decided to go an ashy/dirty blonde, which I'm so happy with. I'm excited that I got to make a dramatic change to my hair without damaging it irreparably, like the online accounts I'd read before. It's only been two days, but I can't wait until the next time I can go back to try something new with Margaret.

Margaret Gere - Final look, went there with a photo looking for a Fire look. She advised I tone down the red to a tone closer to my hair on top.
