The wine list had a bunch of Umbrian gems. The waiter spoke a decent amount of English and was able to guide us through the wine list and the menu. He was also very patient with us and didn't rush us to finish our meal despite being the last diners there. We started with the prosciutto de norcia. It was heavenly, especially with the excellent local wine. We then shared the penne alla norcina, which was phenomenal. The penne was perfectly chewy, and the sauce was perfectly seasoned and creamy. The pork chop I had was one of the best pork chops I have had in my whole life. My husband had the excellent local sausage. We had such a good experience our first night in Perugia, we returned to Cesarino the next day as well. Both nights were wonderful.

I think, because of this situation, we did not feel a warm response from the servers as they were quite busy with the immediate seating of so many patrons, so I'll give them a pass. My husband and I both had a lentil soup and pizza. The soup is so flavorful, made from local beans. The pizza was very good, but too much for two (perhaps should have shared), so combined we had a whole pizza to take away. The food at the surrounding tables looked like they were nicely prepared. If in Perugia again we would go, but not on such a rushed evening.

Our dishes were the pene pasta arrabiata, the spaghetti with black olives and truffle shavings and a local tripe dish. We don't eat meat but on adventures such as this, we look forward to tasting what the local cuisine has to offer. We prefer seafood but there wasn't any on the menu. Our server, Alessandro, recommended the tripe which we readily accepted. All three dishes turned out to be excellent choices. The pasta were cooked to perfection - al dente. The arrabiata was perfectly spiced. The balance between the black olives and truffles in the spaghetti gave it an earthy aroma and teased our palates so that we could not stop eating the darned dish! The tripe? Heavenly! Reminded us of mom's callos except that this tripe had a melt-in-your mouth consistency. All the food we had were prepared Umbrian style and we thoroughly enjoyed every bite! But as we headed back toward our area, I remembered seeing this place walking up the hill. The patio was full so we went inside and it was pretty much empty. The nice thing is that we didn't have to talk over the loud bass that filled the neighborhood. We ordered a great bottle of wine, and planned to share everything. So we started with the Penne all'Arrabbiata, which had a nice subtle spicy flavor and perfect pasta. We then had the Insalatona dI pollo: insalata mista, pollo grigliato, citronette, which sounds so much better than a salad with chicken. We ended with the spaghetti with cherry tomatoes and pesto. This was the best pesto we've had in a long time. We shared a tiramisu and I got a shot of limoncello. This was a really great meal. The service was friendly and my limited Italian worked. I would definitely come back if ever in the city of Perugia again!
