This is a must see falls while in Ithaca. I'm pretty sure it's the tallest in NYS. Upper falls overlook gives a spectacular view and is one of the easiest to access. Especially if you have mobility issues. It does not require a hike. Parking lot, pavement and a view.

Easy walk (45 minutes round trip) to see this water falls. If you are in the area, it's worth seeing. $9 to park your car in nearby parking lot.

I've been visiting Taughannock Falls since childhood, and the overlook area has changed a bit over the years - they added the Visitor Center a number of years ago, along with a more expansive parking area (on both sides of the road). As far as the overlook itself goes, the overlook gives you a lovely view of Taughannock Falls and its 215ft drop. That drop is 33ft taller than Niagara Falls, also making it the tallest single-drop waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains. From this vantage point (as well as from down below, honestly), Tuaghannock Falls is quite a sight to see. The overlook platform isn't especially large though, and the area can get quite crowded, as can the parking areas... especially during summer. This has always been the case, but people should certainly be especially mindful now during the pandemic. Be considerate, be aware of others you're sharing space with, wear a mask when you're within close proximity to others... all that good stuff. There's certainly no reason to be rude to others in a small lookout area (as another reviewer said she experienced), but let's all be aware of common courtesy and wear a mask (there's plenty of signage around all areas of the park asking for people to do this... so it's not a "Karens of NY"-thing... it's a being mindful and considerate of others when sharing limited space-thing). Side note: there are plenty of walking trails around this lookout area / overlook spot. Also, the Falls is much more enjoyable after there's been a bit of rain... because there are certainly times when everything can get pretty dried up, and then there's just very little to look at. Consider timing when planning your visit. :)

This is an overlook that has parking, a visitors center (closed right now) and a view of the falls from above if you don't want to do a long hike. It's nice but you can't wade up here and it's really a five minute visit and then you move on.

I'm sure this is gorgeous normally. But sadly, due to a severe lack of rain this summer, the fall looks "shut off". We got there to merely look at a wet wall. The gift shop was cute, albeit overpriced. There were tons of people there so the hike was not incredibly enjoyable. I would like to come back when the waterfall returns.

Such a beautiful spot and not overly crowded considering the location. There's a massive trail around the mountain ledge. Make sure to walk down the stairs for the best views :)

Taughannock Falls is so beautiful. There wasn't a fee to park in the upper level. My friend and I visited the gift shop first. They aren't accepting cash in the gift shop. I'm not sure if that's always their policy or if it's only during Covid. They had stickers, patches to sew, postcards, key chains, hoodies and a few other things. I bought a bumper sticker for my car, a face mask, and a keychain for my friend. The sticker and face mask said Ithaca is Gorges. I loved the play on words. There were signs around saying that people needed to wear a mask because of Covid and the Delta variant. But when I told the gift shop employee that I was vaccinated, she said it wasn't a big deal and I'm fine. My friend and I walked the trail back to the main road, then walked back to the stairs and walked down to the overlook point. It was beautiful and is a great place for a selfie. Definitely visit this beautiful state park. You won't regret it!!!

The overlook is a great pitstop if you're in the area. It's free to park, there's a visitor center (they only accept credit card for purchases), and the falls are easy to see from the parking lot or by going down the steps to get a lower view. Steps can be a little wet so I'd recommend sneakers. In about 10 minutes we got a few good pictures, read some of the informational signs, and stopped inside to get a postcard. Highly recommend if you don't have time to hike through the park.

We randomly stopped by the falls overlook while driving by and we are really glad we stopped. The falls were amazing and it was a quick couple minute walk to see them from the car. Easy to do with little ones and not terribly time consuming.

Definitely worth the visit to check out the Falls at the Overlook spot. We spent the day visiting a few waterfalls around Ithaca and this was by far our favorite and most impressive of the ones we saw. If you are hiker, be prepared as the hike is long and strenuous as we choose to simply drive to the overlook area.

We love this place. It has the tallest free-falling waterfall east of the Mississippi. This waterfall has a drop of 215 feet which makes it 33 feet taller than Niagara Falls. The area all around is beautiful and it sits right off of Cayuga Lake. It is a must see if you are coming through.

What a beautiful morning in Ithaca!

Look no further than Ithaca for great hiking and gorgeous views. I hadn't been here in a long time so I stopped on my way thru coming home from a business trip. Stunning in the fall, so serene! Nice private little parking lot, bike parking, bathrooms during regular season, great views!

I thought it was a fairly easy 1 mile hike out to the falls (though my coworker vehemently disagrees that 1 mile and easy belong in the same sentence - sorry Miss Sheila!), and there were some falcons swooping around. There is a fee to park, but were still spots remaining when we arrived. We should have received discounted parking with a Military ID, but the booth was unmanned that day, so we paid anyway. There is a restroom facility at the parking lot, and it wasn't bad. I actually think it was heated, so that was nice. I'd be interested in seeing the falls and hiking the upper trail when the weather is better!

Formed by Buttermilk Creek as it flows down the steep valley side toward Cayuga Lake ranging in height from 5 to 35 feet and descending more than 500 feet in a series of cascades and rapids, a natural pool at the base of fall provides swimming with the feel of an old swimming hole that was closed today due to lack of life guards. Like many NY state parks, there are two entrances. We walked from the parking lot at the lower park and hiked up the picturesaque dog friendly Gorge Trail until the cross-over bridge. Then we returned back down the other side of the gorge on the less travelled Rim Trail. Bathrooms were clean with 4 showers. If one carries in food or drinks into the park, one must carry out as there are no trash cans. Parking was $10 and our picnic lunch made for an inexpensive, fabulous day, which we can recommend.
