These programs have truly been an excellent opportunity for my daughter to pursue her dream and passion for theater in an environment of other like-minded kids and instructors. And the programs and productions that get put together, choreographed, and performed are just truly amazing. It's been tough to see local community theater productions after watching what Camp Broadway is able to arrange in much shorter periods of time. I like the ensemble nature of the performances as well. The kids are able to learn and perform on equal footing without imbalances in stage time or stress over roles and stage time. And as I mentioned above, it's amazing what these kids are able to do. We're big fans of Camp Broadway - highly recommend if your kids are interested in theater.

From start to finish the staff encourage and promote creativity and teamwork while fostering individualism and allowing for kids to focus on things they are drawn to while still giving them the fundamentals of all aspects of filmmaking. My sons are repeat participants. Every camp is a new experience and they are constantly learning new things and meeting new people. A must for any kid interested in storytelling and experiencing what it takes to make a film.

They were excited to attend each day and couldn't wait to share details about their projects. They had tons of hands-on experience both in front of and behind the camera. It was wonderful to see them take on a range of responsibilities and exercise so much autonomy in creating their projects, while receiving technical and thematic guidance from the instructors to support their vision. They were incredibly proud of their final work, and our family loved viewing it (the films were hilarious and a little unhinged :)). In fact, they both came home asking to get the software programs they used so they can continue making films at home. During the week, their groups traveled to public parks, subways, beaches, and other open spaces to film their projects, which was a highlight for my kids. My 11-year-old rated the camp 4.9 out of 5 stars. Her only complaint was that she wished parents could receive the final project links a few days sooner, because it was "unbearable to wait until the next week."

Still, it had a certain bit of charm and intimacy to it that I enjoyed. It felt old, but it also felt well-loved. The people working there were all very friendly, and seemed to enjoy interacting with the guests that night. There seemed to be quite a few regulars, as well. Either that, or they were all friends outside the theater. The chairs aren't the most comfortable, but they're sturdy and you're not really there for that long, anyway. The aisle down is narrow, so if people are congregating, getting to your assigned chair might be a challenge. The stage was also small, but perfect for the show we were there to see (Monday Night Magic, if you were curious. Don't judge! It was a lot of fun.) The audio was also very good, between the performers on stage and the audience members who had been chosen for participation. I will confess that we walked right by the entrance...twice...trying to find it. We trusted Google way too much, apparently. And may have been a wee bit tipsy.

This is, after all, in the BMCC (Borough of Manhattan Community College). Conveniently located a few blocks away from the 1,2,3 trains! Tonight, I went to see Classic Albums Live, a band that goes to great lengths to recreate classic rock albums in it's entirety; note for note! No costumes, no extravagant staging, no gimmicks. Just great music! Tonight, they recreated The Beatles' Abbey Road album! What a treat! Now that I know about this band and venue, I will definitely be on the lookout for future shows!

My son was registered at NYC Elite Gymnastics last year. As a warning for all parents signing up,…read moreyou must pay for the full month of classes regardless of whether the gym cancels classes or has no classes because of holidays. No credit is issued. My son was registered for November and December. The gym did not have classes in half of November and half of December because of the holidays. They do not give you credit for the missed classes so you end up paying twice the price and the monthly tuition is pricey to begin with! I called them on this and they said they only allow make-up classes BUT (and here is the kicker) they do not track the make-up classes AND it cannot be applied to your child's future classes for the same time and date AND you have to call them the week before to schedule the class on their availability, not yours. Since my son only takes gymnastics once a week on a certain day and time, it's really hard to find a second day and time in the same week for the makeup classes because all the classes we want are usually taken (weekdays after school and weekend mornings). Since they don't even track make-up classes, it seems like most parents end up not using them anyway. This seems really shady to me. We do like the classes but as a note, please sign up for the months where there are no holidays.

This place is insanely expensive and they keep raising prices every year. A 55 minute class for a 9…read moreyear old is $79 ($317 for 4 classes). Compare that to my $38 SoulCycle class ! When they are closed you still have to pay the whole monthly amount and they offer a make up class instead. It's probably worth the cost if your child wants to become a gymnast in the future but $79 per class to learn how to do a cartwheel is just insane. Unfortunately there is no other gymnastics place nearby and they seem to take full advantage of that.
