Robert Bella was inappropriate with women, head of school Kate Blumberg treated me like a simpering brat when I asked for some time off due to a outpatient surgery. Perhaps it was because it was an abortion that she felt entitled to her judgement / mean girl attitude. The student loans they helped me to get were predatory at 12% through Fannie Mae. Cynthia Sawyer was catty AF and generally unhelpful and worst of all was David Mamet. We were encouraged to attend a retreat workshop in Vermont we would get so much out of it etc etc. I witnessed Mamet absolutely tear into a young woman as she was performing a scene ... it was the most awful thing ever. She was in tears and he continued to ridicule her and exclaim "why is she still crying, why can't she stop crying" it was beyond excruciating to witness this blatant abusive behaviour. It was 99% attitude and 1% applicable technique. Everyone should be aware the technique is very mental. If you're trying to get out of your head and into your body... go somewhere else.

Nothing abusive, if anything she was too nice and accommodating to students who don't the work, or miss a lot of classes. My guess is these 2 students have their own issues. Some actors can't take "critic," and see it as abuse (it will hurt your feelings if you let it), but we need to hear the truth about our acting to move forward. We all get it in our heads we are good, but a better teacher who is honest with you (many just take your money and say great things) will see the difference, open your eyes if you allow it. Don't blame the teacher. She's trying to help you. You need a think skin in this business. You should be so lucky to have Barbara as your teacher.

I loved Esper's books so naturally when I had finally saved enough money to take classes at his studio, I was excited. Our first meeting was on zoom and Barbara was ten minutes late. No apology but she seemed pleasant. A couple weeks later the 8-week intensive began and immediately her true personality emerged. If we didn't pick up a concept as fast as she thought we should, it looked like she was actually disgusted. Like we were wasting her time for being confused. Any and every question a student asked seemingly had a price tag attached to it. Someone would ask a relevant question to the subject material and instead of an answer, Barbara would suggest buying more classes. At that point, we had all spent $800 for her class. I don't know what planet she's living on but last time I checked most actors aren't rich and to usher us into spending more money to get the answers to questions she refused to comment on is just unkind. Barbara would belittle people for making mistakes, leaving us, students, scared to take risks. This essentially destroyed all of our potential growth as actors because how do you learn if you never fail? It felt like there was a clear "right" and "wrong" way to act while in her presence. I was getting anxiety before the start of every class and by the end, was a nervous wreck while performing. Her class wasn't a safe environment. It's almost like she hates this art form and hopes you'll hate it too. If you choose to take class with Barbara, expect to learn not a single thing and for a bus to drive through your self-confidence.

I would recommend for everyone that is beginner that doesn't know where to start to go to the barrow group. I did the online classes because I did not live in New York, but I'm pretty sure whether you're online or in person you'll have an amazing experience and will continue to take classes from the Borrow group! Kate Neuman was an angel, and someone who really got into the details of each scene. She used props and scene settings very astutely, making sure that all of our scenes were in context, rather than just dictated to the audience in a forced manner. My only caveat has to do with the introduction and physical coordination exercises in the beginning. They were so attention-grabbing and helpful that I wished that the rest of the class had more of the physical education commitment (rather than just scene study).

The instructors in the class are kind and fun, the instructions for parents were super clear, the check in and check out processes are smooth and easy. The other kids coming in seem to be happy as well. I can make reservations for camp days online and They also have early drop off and extended pick ups available The projects they have done every day last week are interesting and engaging for the kids. My 5 year old comes home and demonstrates them every day. It has been fun watching him be so happy and engaged there. Apparently he even made a friend or two. And, most important thing is - everyone I have interacted with at NORY has been so kind - yes, each and everyone! I wish they'd also expand to do afterschool programs in the UWS, because I would want to sign up my kid for that... But meanwhile, we hope to be back in the next break season for camp again! Thank you NORY team.

Nory's STEM-focused curriculum keeps the kiddos engaged while also teaching them teamwork, problem solving, creativity, and many other fine and gross motor skills that are appropriate for their age group. I was very impressed with the woodworking projects my son would bring home nearly every week for 7 weeks; the woodworking projects gave him hands on learning opportunities at such a young age. Also, the staff during my son's time at camp, really cared about my son and other kids in the program. The site director at my son's UWS site - Mariam - is such a phenomenal (calm, supportive) and incredible leader. Mariam and her staff did such a wonderful job supporting my son's social development - esp. his curiosity and high energy - during the summer period. Additionally, Nory's Co-CEO (Peter Seo) was always available to listen and take feedback from parents - and in one instance, he incorporated changes right away! This spoke volumes to how much care he and the Nory team put into ensuring that positive experiences are what a child's time at camp should be centered on! My partner and I are already planning to register our son for future programs (holiday camps during the 2025-2026 school year and hoping for another summer one in 2026); I highly recommend NORY to any family looking for a learning and care focused camp program for their little ones.
