    Current great exhibit

I'm a big fan of this place, somewhere that's so vast that it really takes a full day to see most of it and make an effort with once you've parked up. I think I'm right in saying it's quasi-national trust - basically you have to pay for the car parks which is unusual for most NT sites, but the attractions and gardens are free with membership. A great place for kids to run around in - there's kick ass farm onsite as well (costs extra) and a little train and mini-fairground - plus a very large park! The real winner for me is the gardens as they're so relaxing, plus the Japanese botanical gardens inside and on it's own island is amazing (wish I could have my own one at home!)

A truly beautiful historic estate and a must visit on a sunny day for a wander and/or a picnic - though expect hundreds of other people on weekends and Bank holidays as it's a very popular destination. For £5 entry per car, there's plenty of parking available which is only a short walk to the manor house, Tatton Hall, formal gardens and other facilities such as their café and restaurant (the food we had here was really good). There's also a children's adventure playground if the young ones need to let off some steam. Walk on a little further from the buildings and you're eventually met with 2,000 acres of landscaped deer park and two meres (lakes), Tatton and Melchett, which are spectacular to sit by their edges and watch the world go by. If it's the right season there'll be the odd ice cream van dotted about as well. If you don't bring your own you can hire bikes to explore more of the park, but a lot of it is easily walkable. For a temporary escape from urban life within easy drive from Manchester, you can't get much better than this.

Imagine a beautiful sunny day in Manchester, you are wearing your pretty summer dress and that hot shades you bought before your holiday (Yeah I know it is hard to imagine that with the current weather but we can always be hopeful). Tatton Park is just the place you wanna be at the above circumstance! It is a gigantic park in the posh suburban countryside of Cheshire. It is lush and green with pretty trees all around definitely brings out the romantic or fun side in you depends on the company you have. It is ideal for picnics or even a romantic date with a bottle of wine and a guitar. Tatton park is one the historical locations in Manchester and has everything a park can possibly offer right from farms, birds, deer park, lakes and even a Mansion! There is also a shop that sells ice creams and other munchies, and a gigantic car park. Verdict: Great for - family day out; take your dog out for a walk; romantic date

Beer tasting - the fruits of my labour.

As I made my second trip to Tatton Park in two weeks, I thought that it was high time that I got something down in writing. The first trip that we made was to the Foodies Festival at Tatton - the weather didn't help out with the experience much with its ineptly inconsistent rain. One minute it was tipping it down, the next dry, making taking your coat off and putting it on again feeling like you're participating in the world Hokey Cokey championships. But enough about the weather - it would have been the same whatever we were doing, so onto the event! The festival itself was a little smaller than I had anticipated - we'd only paid £6 each to get in, but I was expecting something... more. I think it's probably because we've only recently been to the good food show at the NEC and that was HUGE in comparison. There was a good selection of stalls there, with an excellent selection of Chilli Jams available. I have a love/hate relationship with Chilli Jam - I can't get enough of it, but my mouth can - it's a pity, because they had a brilliant Naga Chilli one which unfortunately gave me the hiccoughs. The highlight of the day was a brilliant talk from a beer expert on some of the best craft beers about - one or two of them were something of a surprise, but they talk was a) free b) interesting and c) included samples of all the beers in question. Being on a table with a large number of beer spectators was heaven for me, because I got to finish off the bottles. Mmmm. Overall, I'd say this event specifically was a 5/10 - nothing great, but for the price, well worth it. Now, that said, they didn't have any bread, so we took a stroll down to the courtyard of the Park itself because there's a brilliant little shop there that sells everything foody that you could want (they had most of the stuff in there which was available at the show). If you make a trip to Tatton, you should definitely make a side-trip to the shop - you'll find something you like, whatever your taste. They also sell venison from the hundreds of deer on the park. The second trip was a week later, and couldn't have been more different. This was for the RHS flower show, and the weather was glorious (to the point that I just managed to stave off a sunburn). If you've never been to the RHS Flower Show, you're missing out - it's a huge event, with Food, Flowers, Show Gardens and arts and crafts (and I'm sure that I'm missing a lot out from that list). We obtained refreshment from one of the many food stalls around the show, bought quite a bit of food from the food stalls, and filled our minds with expensive ideas on what to do with the garden. Overall, a great day out, and one which I can't do justice in this, already too long, review. Overall, the park is great - there's a huge adventure playground for the kids, acres and acres of land to wander around, some astonishing photo opportunities (wildlife, landscapes, buildings) and the aforementioned little shop. If you fancy a quiet afternoon picnic, or a hike of epi proportions, you'll find it here. Park entry is completely free, there's a cost for the formal gardens should you choose to do that, and a £5 parking fee per car and events are ticketed separately. All in all, well worth it, and only about 10 minutes off the M56, so nice and accessible.

Hidden away in the Cheshire country side...........er correction :D .....actually it isn't so hidden..I mean it is gigantic. I suppose for those of us who don't frequent the Cheshire country side it is hidden. If you haven't been, then you definitely should, perhaps best done on a summers day with some beautiful sunshine. Tatton Park is actually one of the UK's most complete historic estates. It contains a Mansion, Gardens, Farm, Old Hall, 1,000 acre deer park and speciality shops offer something for everyone along with over 100 events annually. No wonder it has won numerous awards as an estate. Another unsurprising feature of the park is that it receives over 750,000 visits each year no doubt alot of that footfall is return business. If you do go check out the housekeeper's store. Food and drink lovers should find themselves in heaven if they visit this place. Tatton Park has a rich tradition of good food and drink, and at the Store they stock a good spread I tell thee. All the meat sold is from the animals on the estate, and the cheeses, pates, jams, beverages and other delights are all British, sourced for their flavour and quality.... Fresh fruit and veg is available from the Garden Shop. How cool is that. There is food here for all occasions, for every meal of the day as well as for those celebrations special treats. So have a leisurely drive down the M56 and check this great great venue out. It is free to get in for walkers and cyclists, but with a car you are looking at a fiver to get in. in order to check out the various attractions, again it is around a fiver which isn't bad. Well worth a visit because, I think the place is just grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!!

    Swans on the lake

I love Tatton Park, watching the deer, or the swans on the lake, having picnics, driving in the car with the top down, even though the place gets busy you can usually find a secluded spot to lie and relax and eat your picnic, plus with having an entrance fee you usually don't get any unsavoury types like at your local park.

As is standard at NT sites, it's £5 to park and around £10 entrance to the house, plus there's an excellent restaurant onsite serving homemade food between 12 and 2.30pm (we had the pork and vegetable casserole and mushroom pie and both were of excellent quality, out of a choice of around 6 dishes), with snacks such as teacakes and scones served with tea and coffee in the morning and afternoon. Lunch came to £22 with a couple of soft drinks. As is usual with National Trust sites, it's an extremely popular day out for older people, parents with pushchairs and young couples enjoying a romantic day out - saying that, there is plenty of room in the park to find your own piece of paradise so don't worry about it being too claustrophobic!

There's a carpark which was £1 for 2 hours and from here you can walk up to their gardens and park area which are rather secluded but still have plenty of opportunity to sunbathe - in fact there were loads of groups of people when we visited enjoying picnics, ball games and good times - very very chilled atmosphere! The displays are fabulous and the chance to see working vintage machinery, as well as live demonstrations of various pieces of equipment, provides a unique experience. The £12 price of admission includes a guided tour of the Apprentice House and a self-guided walk through the Mill. You also can wander the grounds independent of admission and these are impressive themselves. Touring the Apprentice House is definitely worthwhile. The guides are excellent and provide multiple tidbits of captivating information. Walking through the Mill is equally fascinating. The quality of the restoration of the facility is impressive and provides a great atmosphere in which to enjoy the tour. The real highlight, however, is the display of working machinery. The Mill was skillfully restored to its mid-1800s condition and the live exhibitions of working equipment give a real sense of how the factory must have operated. Overall, this is without question a worthwhile place to visit if you have any interest in 19th century history, particularly the impact of industrialization on English life. There's nothing quite like getting the blood pumping by walking through the muddy trails, enjoying the soothing sound of the rivers and taking a break from the city. With this in mind, we went to the Quarry Bank Mill which is situated just outside Wilmslow and close to Alderley Edge (just in case you're after potential lunch options after walking). Being an old cotton mill from the 1830's, it's incredibly striking upon arrival and it's amazingly well set in woodland of the highest order. We actually didn't make it into the house as we really just wanted to stretch our legs and get a bit of fresh air but we did go on one of the trails which took maybe half an hour of moderate walking, while we also had the option to go on a much longer harder walk but thought we'd leave that for another day. It was £4.50 to park the car and this gives you full access to all of the grounds. There's 2 cafes on site which serve everything from main meals to cakes, snacks and of course tea and coffee. This place probably isn't one for hardcore walkers but it is a nice little option to nip to for a couple of hours if you've been stuck inside for a while or want to see lots of nice greenery.
