A brilliantly beautiful park that is just amazing for long walk, relaxing, and so forth. When I…read morefind myself in this part of Manchester, I like to stop by and just enjoy the scenery. Grab a lovely lunch and just sit and people watch and/or stroll about taking in all of the acres of landscape, trees, florals, etc. Always a ton of adorable dogs playing around with their humans.

It is located between Wythenshawe, Baguley, Brooklands, Northern Moor, and Northenden and is easy to access by car or public transport and there's plenty of on site parking.  It's all free to park and use with folks walking with or without dogs, kids playing in the parkland or on the roundabouts swings and slides. It has a working farm and farm shop. There was an ice cream van on site each time we go and it's a wonderful place for festivals, picnics and chilling out if you just want to daydream with nature. There's no shortage of space as it consists of over 100 hectares of open parkland dating from the 13th Century, with historic and ornamental woodlands, open grassland and beautiful wildflower meadows. To give context when Walt Disney bought land in 1965 for DisneyWorld he secured 17 hectares (today its a stunning 47 square miles). The park is steeped in history with the 16th Century Wythenshawe Hall at it's centre. The Hall had a serious fire a few years ago and remains in recovery and closed. The hall, together with the North Lodge and the Statue of Oliver Cromwell are Grade II Listed Buildings.   The park hosts a great range of year-round leisure and educational opportunities for all ages including a varied activities and events programme, with highlights like the annual firework & bonfire extravaganza, fairs, circus, sports and games events.   Here's to the next 800 years.

There's some beautiful exotic trees, shrubs and flowers to look at. Not least in the rock garden, which is dog free. The rock garden also has its own pond and I swear I've seen terrapins or turtles in there. Nobody ever believes me, though! Throughout the rest of the park, you'll find plenty of benches where you can bask in the sunshine, as well as a great little café, which does the best flapjacks and cakes in the world! There's also a beautiful arboretum that's lovely to sit in and a couple of tennis courts, which seem to be in almost constant use during the summer months! These tennis Courts are sometimes used for open air theatre productions in the summer. I saw Oscar Wilde's The Important of Being Earnest there one year, and there was a lovely atmosphere.

Hi Mike. You have proved that it is definitely possible to teach an old dog new tricks! Your advice…read morehas transformed our relationship with Angel, our 11-year-old rescued Bichon. We've had her for about a year but her possessiveness over food and resources was getting much worse and we were really worried that things were not going to work out with our current family situation. After one home visit from you, we have put in place all of the advice and training measures you suggested and everything is going really well. The daily growling incidents have reduced considerably now we know how to avoid and distract. Mealtimes in particular have improved - we are putting only small amounts of food in her bowl, then putting it down after she waits and then repeating the process until she has had the whole portion. One of the key things you helped us realise, is that just because she is 11, not to let her get away with things. For example, she used to have a set route she preferred for walks, with lots of little foibles about where to cross the road and stop at certain points. We used to indulge her routines and because she is an old dog, let her do what she wanted. But now, if we want to go left and she doesn't, I stand still until she stops pulling. Then I start to move towards the way I want. If she pulls again I stop, and I do not look at her. Eventually she starts to come towards me and once we are trotting off in the new direction she is fine. Thanks again for your advice. It has made Angel a much happier little lady.

They used to be The Alexandra Park aerodrome which was opened in 1918 for the test flying and delivery of locally built aircraft for the RAF. In the first world war someone famous landed there or something like that. Before it closed in 1924 there was loads of lovely airplane displays and the like. The only thing that is definitely better than flying is football, so they've managed to improve it. It's a bit muddy around the goal areas, particularly on some of the pitches, but that's to be expected, and its also all part of the fun. Most of the goal posts don't have nets as well, but that's to be expected, and its also all part of the fun. All you need to do is get your two least popular friends, and get one of them to stand behind each goal, and retrieve the ball when you kick it out.

There is a small but modern clubhouse and a car park. The Clough has a new track through it. It is essentially still a hole with water in it, and a large piece of wood with slits in, which I can only assume is for bird watching. When I walked down here last night I thought I'd spotted a rare species, but it turned out to be a plastic bag. I did see a couple of mallards too. Next door to the fields is where GMP train their horses and dogs, which can be really interesting to watch - just make sure you don't have any illegal substances on you!
