My friends hired chef Reggie to host an upscale Mexican 4-course menu as part of our bachelorette weekend. Chef Reggie and his food were a huge disappointment. I spoke with him regarding the menu and told him we wanted things like mole and upscale dishes beyond the normal enchiladas rice and beans. I also told him there were 3 vegetarians and a vegan diner attending. There were 14 of us and each paid $150 a person. The first course was just store bought tortilla chips (in their original bags) plus some salsa (probably also store bought). The second course was a mix of corn and black beans for a salad. It had flavor but was pretty basic cowboy caviar type dish. While these were underwhelming, the third course was an utter disappointment. He brought salmon for the vegans and vegetarians to put in the tacos. And there was just plain rice and beans on the side. When we told him the vegetarians don't eat salmon, or any meat, he mixed the beans with the second course corn salad and filled the very small tacos. I could make much better street tacos myself. How does a private chef not know that vegans and vegetarians don't eat meat?! And the fourth course? He forgot to bring it. He also didn't have any menus printed, as promised, and had not communicated the menu ahead of time like we asked. He also was supposed to have another server/porer with him, but no one else came. It was such an upsetting dining episode for a celebratory day that we were all hurt by it. To pay so much and get so little and basic? I'm disappointed to write this review and have given Reggie chances to resolve our issue before getting to this point, but I cannot, in good conscience, let Reggie get away with scamming even more people. Do not hire or refer Reggie's services. He will underperform or steal your money. TL;DR: The week of the scheduled event, Reggie told me he double booked so I asked for a refund of my 50% deposit. It's been over one month of him promising the refund but I have yet to receive it. He's now blocked me and I cannot contact him by phone anymore. February 19 Three weeks before our event, I make an inquiry on Yelp. Reggie quickly replies over text and we confirm a date and time over the next 24 hours. I immediately pay the deposit over Venmo. The day after I paid the deposit, I ask if we could move our scheduled event to the following day. Reggie responds saying he is in talks with a potential client on the new day I requested, but that he'd gladly move our date if the potential client didn't move forward. The next day, Reggie texts me saying "Looks like the day is yours! I'll re-pencil you for March 11" March 6 Reggie and I hadn't spoken over the next couple weeks so I reach out 5 days before the event, asking if we could discuss the menu. Reggie gets back to me saying we'd talk later that day. In the same text, he mentions that he double booked our date and asks if we could move our event to the previous or following day. Being that it was just days before our event with Reggie, our weekend plans were already set and we couldn't adjust on such short notice. I ask Reggie if he had any associates who could help him work both events and give him my availability to talk later that day. I never hear from him that day and over 48 hours goes by with no word from him. March 8 At this point, we're 3 days from the scheduled event, I hadn't heard from Reggie about his double-booking issue, and we've yet to discuss the menu. I am concerned that I hadn't heard from him so to avoid any issues with the double booking, I text him that I'd like to cancel my booking and request my deposit back. Reggie responds shortly after, claiming he couldn't get back to me because he had an urgent surgery. He claims that the refund was out, and to expect it within 5-10 business days. I paid over Venmo so I ask if the refund could be issued the same way. He explains that he transfers from Venmo to his bank, and his bank issues refunds. I am confused how a refund from his bank would be on the way to me if he didn't have my banking details, but giving him the benefit of the doubt that he was in serious medical condition, I give it the 10 business days he quoted before following up with him. March 22 I follow up on refund, as it's been 10 business days. No response. March 23 I follow up on refund, asking if he needs my bank details. No response. March 24 I consider that he might actually be in very serious medical condition so I text him that I'm worried about his injury and that I'd reach back out in a few days. No response. March 28 I call Reggie for the first time. No answer. I leave a voicemail asking for a call back. To my surprise, he follows up my voicemail with a text. He claims he had been in the hospital for 20 days and was just discharged the previous day. He says he'd contact his bank in the morning to look into the refund and that I should expect a call from him at 1pm the next day. March 29 I was expecting Reggie's call at 1pm but unsurprisingly, he never called. I follow up with a text. March 31 I text a more formal request for the refund. He acknowledges he read it with a thumbs-up reaction. April 7 Still no refund. I text Reggie, to which he responds that he'll call me for my bank details in order to wire transfer the refund the following day. In my text response, I provide my bank details in hopes that we could speed the process up. April 8 No call from Reggie at the time he said he'd call. I text, asking if he'd called his bank yet. No response. I call and leave a voicemail. I reach out to someone I think may be a business partner based on Venmo transactions. Reggie calls me back and claims he processed the wire transfer that morning, and that I should expect in 3-5 business days. I ask for a receipt or confirmation but he refuses to provide one since his own banking information is present on it. Later that day, he is angry I reached out to the third party and blocks my phone number and social media. He thinks I harassed the suspected business partner, but I absolutely did not. Besides asking if she could help me get in contact to resolve the issue since they seem to be business partners, I let her know that I've shared with Reggie my next steps of action against him. April 10 Here we are, over a month since he told me he double booked and promised a refund. I'm still crossing my fingers that I'll see a refund by the end of this week, but based on a couple recent reviews, I doubt it. read more

We contacted Reggie in March to be our chef for my girlfriend's bachelorette party. Once we picked a date and clarified if he could accommodate our requested menu he asked for a deposit of 50%. Which we paid via credit card. I decided to add on an appetizer and he asked for additional $100 via Venmo. As the event got closer he became less responsive. I would send multiple emails before getting a response. The week of the event I sent another email confirming he got our menu correct. He stated he did and asked for the address again. The day before the event I emailed him to confirm the time. He responded he would need to arrive an hour and 1/2 to an hour and 45 min before dinner. No where did he say what time we would have dinner. The morning of the event I called him to confirm dinner time. We were flexible but wanted to make sure we returned to our Airbnb to let him in. He sent our call to voicemail. He then texted us about 20 min later saying he was no longer coming. Stating he had to go to Fresno the night before to say goodbye to a grandparent. He stated he would be giving us a full refund in a couple of days. I responded apologizing for what he was going through and requested he returned our deposit and additional funds via Venmo today since we now had to take our large group to dinner. He responded by liking my message. 5 hours later we still did not have our money. I decided to go back to his Yelp to see if things had changed. When I originally found him he had 5 stars and glowing reviews. I was disappointed to see this had changed. I decided to request the amount via Venmo so he could simply complete the transaction. I sent him another text asking him to please complete the transaction. An hour later he sent me several strings of text saying he would send the money at 6pm after his time with his family. Again I was trying to be understanding but at this point was not really sure he was being truthful. 10 am the next day I sent another text asking him to send the money and that I've given him plenty of time. He has now blocked me and isn't responding. He is posting pictures of his dog on his Instagram and seems to be active on there, but is still unable to return our money. He is a fraud. Do not do business with him. Do not send him money via Venmo. ETA: changing your business name and owner name to FU only makes it worse for you. My point about the dog is you have time to send the $, but instead you're posting on your Instagram. read more

I talked to nearly every private chef option in the region before finally deciding to go with Reggie-- and it was a great decision. From the start Reggie wanted to know what I was looking for, was accommodating to our guests food request, and even customized dishes for allergies. Reggie made an entire custom menu for our group. He was great at communicating to be sure everything would be as expected. We requested an Asian fusion dinner and he was able to come up with an excellent menu that met all our needs. His invoice stated we would be receiving a "Chef Table Experience" of 6-8 plated courses for a party of four. Finally made contact with Reggie via phone to attempt to chat about his ideas of menu and to give him our food restrictions, he than promise to have several menus to my inbox by end of that day. We than could pick and choose from there. He went silent again and "Menu's" were never received. 2 days before our dinner, he texted one (1) menu that was not impressive as a "Chef Table Experience", pretty typical menu we could do for ourselves and certainly not at $140 pp. (which included rice balls, bread and potatoes.) If you are considering this business to cater for you let me tell you what our experience was. For over a year we planned of having a wonderful joyous 50th anniversary party. Hired him based on a friend's recommendation. Chose a "Latin" menu with carne asada tacos & all the fixings, chicken and steak fajitas, beans, rice, chips & salsa and, for dessert fresh churros and French vanilla ice cream. Paid him $3K for 55 plates. Day off he didn't "set up" early as he had said he would. Dinner was over an hour late. The chips & salsa were from the market. And half of the dinner menu was NOT served. He asked for 4 banquet tables in his buffet/serving line and there were only 4 stainless or aluminum warming trays set out. All 4 would've fit on 1 table .... Looked silly. There were NO carne asada tacos and the refried beans were cold & stiff. No dessert either. I was absolutely shocked and greatly disappointed. Apparently he wasn't "feeling well" and needed to be done early to go home. After all the time, expense, and promises somehow his not feeling well became my problem. The no dessert was really the kicker. Nothing for my guests to enjoy. He told a family member a small refund would be coming and has REPEATEDLY lied to me about the problems that night and re funding me for services NOT PROVIDED. Haven't seen a nickel of the 3 times promised refund. I expected at least 1/2 of the money paid since he failed to provide half of the meal we had planned with him. We were embarrassed and I was deeply upset as so much had been put into the party (which was wonderful except for the dinner). A Taste to Remember" says it all! Reggie prepared a birthday experience for six adults and three pre teens that was amazing. It started with a charcuterie plate of the fresh cheeses, meats, and extremely tasty crackers. The second course, a Caprese salad, was made with perfectly fresh heirloom tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. The main course consisted of either a perfectly cooked Wagu steak or fresh salmon accompanied by red potatoes and green beans. The steaks were the best I have ever had... and I have a lot of years of experience. The meal was followed by an amazing chocolate torte and Port wine. Yes, we ate it all, including my special surprise two pound ribeye steak. We really appreciated all of the locally sourced foods incorporated into our meal, your wine suggestions for each course and the great service. Attended a very special event a few weeks ago that was unfortunately shadowed by extremely bad food service. These one star ratings are spot on and cannot be ignored by what I can only suspect are fictitious or prompted 4-5 stars ratings in order to boost and/or try to keep the business alive. The title 'Chef' does not apply to the owner or his attempt at food preparation, presentation or delivery. Summary: Menu called for filet and some other meat that was tough - and overcooked to well done!!! Vegetable medley was overcooked squash and zucchini - just a soggy flavorless mess. Fingerling potatoes were actually small golds that were raw - yes RAW!!! Salad was tub of greens with a flavorless attempt at a strawberry like vinaigrette.
