I was sent to another dentist in Kona where I spent $$ to find out what I knew that the problem is periodical disease and a root canal was not possible. Doctor Alex was very nice but I trust my feelings and intuition. He asked about cancer in my family and said he was very worried and made Me feel awful every time I left. I was ready to switch dentists just because of my intuition. I called and they said he was no longer there. I would like a solution to a dental Problem not someone who makes you feel scared or worried. No wonder the woman who wrote the review had to go thru a situation with her child. I feel for you and your child .

Dr Miyasato is nice, but she pawned us off on a new dentist who is straight from the mainland, Alex Spivak. Alex Spivak saw our kids and said they all had many cavities that needed to be filled. We said okay, and sent them in for treatment. Our son went in and said his mouth was numb for an unusual amount of time. Husband went in and had the same problem. He informed Spivak, before we sent out daughter in. He saw our daughter, who went in to the office a completely healthy child, and filled her cavity. Like her brother and dad, she had numbness to her face that lasted all night. We figured it would wear off the next day. IT DID NOT. Her entire face on one side drooped, from her eye to her lip. It looked like she had a stroke! We called him to inform him of her injuries and he wanted us to bring her in. We told him we were taking her to her physician because he couldn't do anything for her and because why would we want to take her back to someone who INJURED her?! Her doctor said she had nerve damage and prescribed her a heavy steroid medication to try and relax her face. He stated that he couldn't tell if it was broken or bruised and said he would get a specialist to see Her. In the meantime, this was before Christmas and we had planned out a trip to the mainland for our kids. So we hoped and prayed that her face would return to normal for her sake. NOPE! Her face remained droopy and she lost control of the muscles that move her eyebrows. Her eyes watered like crazy and her mental health was affected. She was miserable the entire trip. She used to be our most cheerful child, friendly, talkative and happy but after the injury caused by Dr Spivak, she withdrew from everyone in the family and became very angry. We arranged for her to get counseling because of this. Remember that the injury affected half of her face, which is the first thing everyone sees! She couldn't raise her eyebrows, or move her mouth, which affected her speech, her smiles, and the way she ate and drank. In school, she would cover half of her face from her eyes to her chin, with her hand. Her food and drink would drop out of her mouth for Months because she couldn't control her lip muscles! We went to see the pediatric neurologist we were referred to and he confirmed that her facial injury definitely came directly from the dentist. As I said before, prior to her appointment she was 100% healthy and had a happy disposition. Her face was injured from December to March and we have received NO APOLOGIES from Spivak or Waimea Smiles. But we have received a letter signed by him stating that he discontinued service to us because of a "patient doctor breakdown" No class, no aloha, and no integrity. On a side note, those "many cavities" our kids had magically disappeared once we switched dentists. Interesting how that happened.

Avoid!!!!! Calls the police on you if you say your are mad at him…read more Dr Matt is a horrible person and I have no idea how he has any good reviews. He refused to see our autistic son and canceled our appointment the morning of. My wife was in tears all because Dr. Matt said he could not meet our sons accommodations which were turning off the tv and the music in the office when we tried to come in or coming out to the car for the exam which he said he would not do unless we tried to come in first. I called the office and I told them I was pissed because they just refused to see him because of his sensitivities but also refused to do the general anesthesia route that they originally recommended and that I would be contacting our lawyer as its against the law to discriminate based on disability. Dr. Matt came on the phone and tried to overpower the conversation by telling me to be quiet and he was the one talking and I told him not happening because he will absolutely not tell me what to do. Guess it works for him normally but not this time. He comes off as the puff my chest type. He called me later and seemed apologetic until he told me I had to learn to give him respect. He then told me he called the police on me for telling his staff I was pissed for him canceling our appointment the morning of. Then in his next sentence said he didn't want to see our son because it would cause him too much stress but yet he is ok calling the cops and possibly having them come to our house because I said I was pissed. This would have caused my son a major panic attack. I had no idea that telling someone you were pissed was against the law. But you know what is against the Law denying care to a disabled person because you fail to agree to minor accommodations. Obviously his report went no where because saying you are pissed is not a crime. But wait it gets better, after telling me that he called the cops and reported me for the illegal act of saying you are pissed he then tells me that if I want to talk to him that I should come talk to him at his office face to face. Hmmm so you call the cops on someone then want that person you called the cops on to come see you face to face. Dr. Matt thinks people from here are stupid enough to take him up on his threats as he knew he screwed up so he was trying to get me to come there to start something. Nice try. I told him we will be filing complaints and reaching out to out lawyers and he said no problem I have it all recorded and if I wanted the calls he would send to me. This is perfect because all the calls 100% show his neglect. I was so happy he recorded it because it shows everything I am saying The next day I reached out for those recordings that he said I could have in a text message and he then texted back that i was harassing him. Two reasons I believe for this is one he was trying to find something else to make it look like he was the victim and 2 he realized the recordings 100% incriminate him for discrimination and him being confrontational. I told him since he already said in a message the calls were recorded and that I submitted it in our complaints that if he erased them to save him self then he would be destroying evidence. We still have not received any recordings. Dr Matt does not deserve to be a part of the hawaii community with an attitude like he has and the way he treats families of special needs. I find it odd that there are not more bad reviews about him. He should close up his new fancy office and give it to a pediatric dentist who has the aloha spirit and really cares about the community and not just lining their pockets and taking advantage of locals. Less business means no more new office for this guy. My hope is more people he has done this to will come forward. Also that kona moms group would take him off their recommendations list. Dr. Matt has zero aloha and should not be doing business here. Don't give your money to support his lifestyle and don't trust your children with him

A few tips though-- be punctual as they are strict with that. Getting on the schedule can be tough at first, it will likely take more than 6 months. Esther needs to work on figuring out a solution that is best for Bother Provider/Patient. She did not do neither and was Quick to just cancel the appointment. I still have not been transferred to the Manager. Is this the type of Customer Service I have to experience when I schedule an appointment for my kids Dental Treatment?

He lacks communication skills and could use work as a "pediatric dentist". Never in my life had I ever had a doctor have a straight up attitude the minute I walked into the room to go sit. The way the doctor started the conversation could have been done in a much better way and would have gone differently if he was being professional. His body language, tone of voice, choice of words were unprofessional, and uncalled for. I didn't appreciate the way he spoke and in making me feel as if I didn't care for my child because I was uncomfortable with gas being used on him. He's 3, I have every right to be uncomfortable.
