When in Mount Wellington, only one place will do: Kings Roast. Don't expect a particularly classy establishment; this place is one of those that feels immediately a bit cheap upon arrival. Think specials written in pen on the menu and not the slightest hint of ambience about the place. However, don't let any of the above put you off. Kings Roast does great roasts. I went in recently and had a roll stuffed with lamb (they definitely don't scrimp on the amount of meat they give you!) and a gorgeous mint sauce. I saw the guy caving the lamb and it was obviously really well cooked and still lovely and pink in the middle. The potatoes that came with it were also fantastic, really crispy and fresh tasty--no mean feat when they're clearly not freshly prepared. In fact, the only thing that let the meal down was the lone kumara I had. This was cold, soggy and just downright disappointing. However, take this out of the equation and you've got yourself a damn good roast.

My favourite burger would have to be 'The Famous Star' - it's a safe choice, or if I want to go all out, then I'll order the 'Guacamole Bacon Thickburger' - who doesn't love guacamole or bacon in a burger?!?! The burgers are delicious and taste different to McDonald's and Burger King (better). At the St. John's branch, you can also add jalapeños to your burger, which you can't do at other branches. I also love their 'Chilli Cheese Fries' - haven't tasted anything like them before! Melted cheese and chilli mince on top of fries - what's not to like! Also, if you're into thickshakes, try one next time you're at Carl's Jnr - creamy and delicious!

It's a cute place with really sweet staff. I got a green curry made vegan and my boyfriend got a pad Thai with tofu. The green curry was seriously legit. I got a jasmine rice with it. The bf loved his pad Thai and downed it in less than 5 mins, even though the portion was pretty good sized. It looked beautiful but tbh we were too hungry for photos. I ate half my green curry and asked for the rest to go. The server brought it back packed in a cute lil container in a bag and he told me that he packed me some rice to go with it. That seriously blew my mind, I've never had a server do that before. Like I'm pretty sure this is my new favorite Thai restaurant. We ended up spending like an hour and a half at this restaurant because it was so cute and cozy and intimate. We had some good talks and drank some wine and overall it was just fab. The food is so good with decent portions too; especially the lunchtime special which is only $13.50 for a meal of your choice. And there are plenty to choose from. The only shit thing about this place is that their hours are quite limited, especially during lunch. You gotta get in quick before they close. Other than that though I'd go here every day for lunch if I was around the area, and had the cash.
