I knew I was in for a treat when my friend from El Paso described Cocina Mi Familia as "legit."…read more This was a five star experience through and through. I ordered two carnitas tacos and one lengua taco all of which were on point! The meat was tender and flavorful with a green and a red hot sauce served on the side that added just the right amount of heat and a nice added boost of flavor. They were served with onion and cilantro true to the street taco experiences I grew up with in Tucson. The rice was fresh - none of those surprise "crispy" grains that signal rice that has either been sitting out or reheated. The refried beans were fantastic and also reminded me of home. Even the horchata was amazing. Although the food was a standout what struck me most was the cleanliness of the restaurant. Clean tables, floors, and bathrooms all signal that this restaurant cares about details. Even the hot sauce bottles (which I am used to seeing cakes with old drips and drops) were absolutely spotless. I truly believe that things like this matter and suggest that the kitchen is also in good shape. Tye menu was a bit large and could be somewhat overwhelming so much so that I didn't bother to read everything. Besides - I already knew what I wanted. Service was friendly, prompt, and accurate. This place is an absolute MUST for when I return to Sheboygan and it receives two enthusiastic thumbs up from both me and my friend from El Paso - and both of us are experts on good Mexican food.

I would have gave it 5 stars but it was more like ground up steak instead of actual steak pieces. The guy behind the counter didn't even see me walk in and it's a small place. So I stood there for 2 min before some one else asked if I needed anything. Not a big deal but it is what it is. The food did come out quick though after I ordered it so it was prolly pre cooked and just heated for the burrito. The beef was seasoned nicely and you could taste the char/sear on it. It was 40 percent meat and 60 percent other ingredients like lettuce beans and rice. Overalll I would go back and get it again. This burrito was big though so it was a good price. It came with two sauces. Red and green. The green was low on spice but it was mid on flavor. The red sauce was spicy but more vinegar based. Needless to say I was full for the rest of the day after this burrito.

While our waiter was kind and responsive I had to flag him down at least 3 times. This was especially frustrating when he was hanging with his colleagues behind the bar chit chatting. Totally annoying. Because... The food is off the charts great. We were a party of 5. We all ordered everything different. And shared. And every bite was amazing. These were the best tamales I've tasted in about 30 years. Quesadillas? Huge. Delicious. Beef Arbol? Shockingly excellent. My gosh. This was the best tasting authentic Mexican food I've had in awhile. I cannot wait to come back!
