I searched for acupuncturist online and landed on Dr Tao bc of reviews. I had been experiencing constant miserable hip pain for the past few weeks. Yesterday I went to Dr Tao and he spent an hour and a half with me. He told me it could take more than one session, but I should feel better after the first. He performed acupuncture, electrical stimulation and cupping over an hour and a half visit. He placed a patch on my lower back to leave 24 hours and I did also buy Chinese herb pills he recommended. Richard Tao is a caring and amazing practitioner. I came to try acupuncture to avoid having rhizotomy surgery again. I was having pain from my neck and shoulder all the way down to my hand. Like sciatica but arm not leg. When I got in my car after my first appointment I already felt better. I had no idea how much the pain was affecting my attitude until that moment. We found Dr. Tao by a fortuitous opportunity. We are no strangers to acupuncture. After doing Google search for local acupuncture since relocation, and a few calls, we found most offices' doctor are their own receptionist or some simply never return the calls. Dr. Tao is the best acupuncturist I know. He is also a Medical Doctor in China and you will not find someone who knows more than he does. To the person who wrote a review on his insurance billing. It is people like you that make medical providers want to quit. How dare you complain about something you know nothing about? When you bill insurance you have to bill codes. Acupuncture is 97810, 97811 infrared heat is 97026 Every procedure has a code. That is how it works. The evaluation can be separate if it is over five minutes. Even after breaking it down to all these stupid codes you get less than $80 and you have to pay someone to bill for you, and you wait for months to get paid. Then the insurance company can take the money back from you a year later when they decide they should not have paid you. It is a scam. Many medical doctors are opting out of billing insurance, because it is such a nightmare and they regularly refuse to pay you on a whim and wait to see if you want to spend a bunch of time trying to get paid for the work you did. Dr. Tao works very hard to help people and he certainly deserves better than someone complaining that he billed their insurance using the codes he was supposed to use. I'm sure your medical doctor made twice that and was unable to help you. I bet you also did not complain about his/her billing. And for the person who complained he put a needle in her chest. It is a medical treatment. Yes, he should have asked you if it was OK, but he is Chinese and they are not so modest. They expect to have needles put in where they need to be. I have been going to Dr.Tao since 2011 and had a baby in 2015. I did receive an epidural during my delivery and begin to experience lower back pain along with my existing upper back and neck pain issues. I went to Dr.Tao and informed him, he is always able to help me feel so much better and the pain becomes bearable. I tell all my coworkers, family, and friends about Dr.Tao and the miracle he is able to do for me. I am currently seeing him on a weekly basis and then will move myself to maintenance treatments once I feel "healed." Every session, he places the needles on the knotted/painful tissue/muscle, applies heat, and electrodes (feels kinda annoying, but you can feel that it's waking up the muscles). Then he places cupping therapy on the entire back to help relieve some muscle tension (love this therapy). Recently, I had hurt my knee somehow (and I am fairly young), he placed 3 needles in my soft tissue and I must say, it's still hurting, but the pain has lightened up (it doesn't help that I live on my feet, by working 12 hour days). Dr. Tao is excellent and I recommend him to everyone dealing with all sorts of issues! I went to him for ADHD and anxiety (both officially diagnosed), and I am a whole new person now!!! Dr. Tao is really outstanding. Three years ago he treated me for Sciatic nerve pain in my hip that was keeping me up much of the night. The first treatment got me about 70% improvement. The second treatment 3 days later got me literally pain free. At that time he advised me to come for two more treatments to get maximum relief and longevity (which I did not do.) A week later my wife went to Dr. Tao for tennis elbow and a chronic pain sensitive spot on her knee that had bothered her for 10 years. Her pain spot was cured that first treatment, and her tennis elbow in 4 treatments. We have both been pain free for the following 3 years. I have never done acupuncture before. I decided to see if Dr. Tao would be able to help me with pain, and tension related to Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Clinical Depression. Dr. Tao is an excellent doctor. He first reviewed my medical history and spoke to me with sincere concern. I came to Dr. Tao with chronic pain syndrome. My shoulders, joints and back hurt so bad I have to take Norco 10 for them. I have had chronic pain for the last eight years of my life since I was diagnosed with Dermatomyositis and severe Arthritis and Osteoporosis. I started visiting Dr. Tao about five weeks ago and I am now taking much less pain meds. The aches and pains I usually feel everyday are almost gone! I have gotten a lot better. Dr Tao has helped my daughter feel better and have a positive outlook on life through his acupuncture as well. She is a vibrant & happy young lady since seeing Dr. Tao. This review is more to inform people of the billing process at Tao's Clinic rather than the actual acupuncture treatment. I found out about Dr Tao as he is listed as "in network" with BCBS insurance. I was dealing with plantar fasciitis, and Dr Tao said he could help me. I went in for a few treatments and I did have some improvement, but I was working with a physical therapist and doing home therapy as well, so I do not know what actually was helping me get better. Dr Tao charged me $80/visit, and he said that he would input claims to insurance and said that he would not charge me more if insurance did not cover the entire claim. When I received the explanation of benefits, the breakdown of the claim caught me by surprise. Here is how it was broken down: 1. Medical Visits 2. Acupuncture Treatment 3. Acupuncture Treatment 4. Physio/Mech Therapy I contacted my BCBS about the breakdown and why two of the claims were not covered. The explanation that I received was that Dr Tao is not certified for "Medical Visits" or "Physio Therapy". I then contacted Dr Tao about the breakdown, and this is what he had to say: The 'Medical Visits' claim was for "check up and analysis your physical conditions and explanations to your conditions". He did take my blood pressure each time and ask me how I was feeling, but I thought this was all part of "Acupuncture Treatment". As for why there were two billings for 'Acupuncture Treatment', he explained that "one session is initial 15 minutes acupuncture treatment and another session is 15 minutes additional acupuncture treatment" ($40 claim each, and all in the same visit by the way). I was unclear what 'Physio/Mech Therapy' was, so when I asked Dr Tao, he explained that this was "I used the heat lamp (TDP Lamp) treatment more than 30 minutes on you". Dr Tao's clinic may be beneficial to anyone reading this review. He obviously has helped a number of people here on Yelp. I just wanted to let people be aware that even though he is in network at some insurance companies, not all of what he will charge you is covered. I should have checked what Dr Tao what the claims would be that he would submit, and then contacted my insurance before I proceeded with treatment. I should note that Dr Tao did not ask for more payments to cover the 2 claims that were not covered. Regardless though, these two claims went towards the entire bill at BCBS. So according to BCBS I still owed payments, and the amount that was covered was sent to Dr Tao. Dr Tao did write that "we also submit your claim to Insurance as you request since you believed that insurance will cover for that. You were right that insurance did pay your acupuncture treatment. We will refund portion that you paid once insurance payment done." read more

After having a miscarriage and being told that I would not conceive without surgery, I researched and started going to Dr. Tao. Dr. Tao didn't make any promises, but felt very optimistic that I could and would conceive in spite of what my OBGYN at the time and other doctors told me. He asked me to do everything he asked of me for the next 3 to 6 months and that we would discontinue treatment if there was no improvement. I had been bleeding for 10 weeks already when I came to Dr. Tao for treatment. My bleeding stopped after 2 days of herbs and acupuncture (which is painless and VERY relaxing). Over the course of 3 months, I was treated 1-2 times a week with acupuncture and herbs that not only eliminated my bleeding, but improved my energy and sleep. Even more impressive is that I found out that I was pregnant almost a month after Dr. Tao gave my husband and I the okay to start trying to conceive again. I paid him a visit months later at the end of my last trimester of pregnancy and I was happy that he was SO excited to see me and the belly that was a precious baby growing inside of me.
