My mom gets her hair highlighted here and it always looks good- natural but noticeable, if that makes sense. There are always fresh flowers and delicious candles in the fabulously decorated three chair salon. They even have iPads for customers to use- pretty nice! I also happen to appreciate their "leave the kids at home" policy- getting my hair done is a luxury for me, as it is for many women, and I don't want to hear a screaming child (or two) while I'm trying to catch up with Christopher and soak in the atmosphere. Essentially, the service is top-notch, and the Urban Style stylists can make you as conservative or avant-garde as you are willing to go. The chairs are comfortable, as are the recliners that ease you into an excellent shampoo session before your cut. They use mostly Moroccan Oil products (and have for years- before they became trendy!) and also do Brazilian blowouts, glazes, hair coloring and highlights, basically the works. Call ahead for an appointment as they are quite popular- but I promise it is more than worth the wait. ps- I have naturally curly, red hair, which Christopher handles with ease (I like to wear it straightened most of the time so he always makes sure to give me a style that will work if my hair is straightened, dried naturally (curly), or wavy.

I was in the market for a hair braider that would not snatch my edges out! Kendra at The Pink Trap was an answer to my prayers! The appointment started a little late, but she was worth the wait. I paid to have my hair shampooed, conditioned, and blow dried before having my hair braided. I have thick, natural (chemical free) hair. Some stylists don't know how to properly handle natural hair; they can be too rough. Kendra took her time to carefully detangle my hair. She worked from the ends to the roots. I appreciate her handling of my tresses. My braids look phenomenal. Her prices are comparable to other braiders in the area. You can see Kendra's work on her Instagram, @kendrakendrabraids. One of my sisters was at work and the other was at the gym. Therefore I trusted Yelp to help me find a great stylist and that's how found Erika. Being that I was truly impressed by the pictures of her work on Yelp, I called her early in the morning around 0830 not knowing she was off for the day, but she didn't turn me away. She made my appt for 1100 which I was so excited because I really wanted my hair done. When I arrived to my appointment, I was really impressed w/the atmosphere of the salon and I was really impressed w/Erika because she came in just to do my hair. She said she don't believe in turning away new customers. Not only did I absolutely love my hair, I loved her personality. Erika was very friendly and made sure that I was very comfortable. Whenever I'm in this area again, I will definitely be coming back for her to do my hair again. As a matter of fact, my sister loved my hair so much that she said she would be going to her. She made sure to put her card on her refrigerator. Lol!! So to any ladies looking for a great hairstylist in the Hoover/Bham and surrounding area, you definitely won't be disappointed w/this professional. I believe that first impression is the last impression and Erika definitely left a lasting impression for me. Lastly, I added pictures of my hair above. I'm the lady with the pink 23 shirt on.
