We could have gone next door to the Ox and Hound for dinner, but gave the pub a go. On a cold night a fire blazed cheerfully but the room was still chilly. Menu looked promising, blue eye with fennel and pork belly which were nicely cooked but took over an hour to arrive.i thought it safe to ask for a glass of any recommended dry white wine but the young waiter said he wasn't too good with wine but returned with a passable Riesling. Being masochists we fancied dessert and thought that being cold larder it would arrive promptly but no, another 45 minutes passed. What the waitress failed to mention was that the pear on puff pastry with chocolate and nuts was baked to order. Poached pears and chocolate are made for each other and the Creme Anglaise surrounding it was fine, but we were in no mood to be charitable so paid our bill and left. Such a shame, a little more speed in the kitchen and some better trained wait staff would have made a difference. Take note please Tanswells! read more
