Chuck's Plumbing & Heating

Chuck's Plumbing & Heating

We did not know who to contact in the area since we live out of town so we contacted Chuck. First…read morephone call was the office girl complaining about Chuck himself since they were so busy (he just had open heart surgery, they are so busy). That should have been my first clue. I called and asked if they did a tune up or could make a house call and see why our air conditioning wasn't working. We made an appointment date on a Wednesday and he never showed up. This is a rental so we had to tell the renters to plan on Wednesday and adjust their schedule for Chuck. I called Chuck and he said they ran out of freon and he would make it there the next day. He did come the next day and said he found 1 small leak and loaded it up with freon to the tune of $232.00 dollars. The next day the renters told us it wasn't working and not cooling down whatsoever. So we called Chuck up again and made an appointment for him to come again. He filled it up again and the renters told us that no way was it working so I called him and said, you need to find out why it is leaking. If you have a pail full of water and it all leaks out, you find out where the leak is for heaven's sake, you don't just keep filling it with water!!! Plus the renters said the fan wasn't working so I mentioned that and they were familar with the HVAC industry and said, he wasn't doing what he needed to do. So FINALLY he figured out there were 2 valves that had leaks and said it would cost us over $500.00 to fix (the valves themselves were only $100.00) but he said, he doesn't know what he will run against. We are upset, we called him to investigate and determine what our problem was, he just did an easy fix he thought and charged us $232.00 and that didn't last a 1/2 day. So that is like flushing down $232.00 down the toilet. When we called again to say to forget it, he said - well haven't you ever made a mistake before.

I contacted Lasco when my 20+ year old water softener stopped working. Their repair person arrived…read moreand without touching the equipment, told me it would need to be replaced. He did a water test and then wrote up several quotes that started at over $6K and exceeded $10K on the high side. I explained (and he saw) that the house was already plumbed with a working bypass and drain line. I also told him that their quotes were much higher than all the research I had done on replacement units. He told me they were " a bit more because they are a 'larger company' ". He also charged me the standard $100 service fee - So I essentially paid them for a "sales" call! I ordered a 48K grain system with 10% cross-linked resin and a Fleck 5600 control head for $750.00 from an online plumbing supply store with great reviews. I then ordered about $50 worth of water lines and a few PVC fittings. In 30 minutes it was hooked up and working perfectly. I am all for buying local. But I cannot comprehend what Lasco could put in their resin or what type of controller upgrade they can offer that justifies a price $5,000 more than I was able to obtain. There would be, at most, one or two hours of time needed for installation. I would encourage anyone needing a water softener to check around before agreeing to pay such an outrageous amount from Lasco. It upsets me when I imagine my parents or other vulnerable people believing these guys and agreeing to these crazy prices.

Lasko workers talk a good game but are not good at what they do and their…read moreprices are unreasonable, greatly inflated.
