During a time where TSA wait times are nightmarish, I couldn't appreciate my hometown airport more…read more My flight was boarding at 6:40pm out of B9; I was dropped off at the airport at 6:32pm and was through TSA and at my gate by 6:42pm. Where else is that possible? I couldn't be more grateful for it. Quaint and cozy, easy to navigate and bound to have a rotating exhibit about Virginia history (as a former high school history teacher, I can't help but notice the opportunities to learn while waiting in the airport's tiny atrium for other arrival passengers or before your own flight takeoff?), I'd choose the calmness of this airport (almost) anyday. If only they had more connecting flights!

This thing is the most messed up anywhere. Yeah, it was after sunset, but the signage just blows. After three round trips using Apple Maps, I pulled over, gave up and used Google maps. Didn't help at all. The road signage is so fucking piss poor. Where I was going I finally gave up, and drove to the nearest highway, went 3 miles out of the way, and got to where I was going. Got to look at a lot of parking at the airport! And get a bunch of (free) tickets for parking because I was only in there for three or four minutes. But this is a major bullshit. I challenge any one who isn't there every single day, maybe say a manager of another airport? To try and find their way out of there simply. It's not doable.

Unlike a lot of metropolitan airports that have updated and renovated over the decades, Norfolk has retained the same aesthetic but it is a dependable airport. The terminals are clearly defined once inside. Where you go to check in is easy and stress free. There are food options both within the terminals past security check as well as before hand. It's fairly stress free where there was no terminal that is specifically overcrowded. While an international airport, Norfolk does have a regional feel that is not as full throttle. It certainly feels easier to navigate and not as cramped as say Asheville that is a regional airport. Overall, it was solid.
