We caught alot and came home with 53 pounds each. The lodging and food was to die for. The help in the lodge made the stay exciting. My grandson and I just returned from a week-long trip hosted by Taylor Charters. Greg has established a masterful collection of 8 different boats and 5 first-class accommodations in the charming town of Gustavus (it is a hard A, not ahhhhh). Greg owns these boats and spares no expense to ensure that they have reliable propulsion (ours was a North River aluminum boat that had nearly new Dual 250 Yamahas.....) and Captains that had years of experience fishing this area. Note - Boats that are worn out get sold ......he had recently bought two brand new boats! Taylor Charters, as a team, seamlessly integrates the entire experience from the pickup through the fishing (and fish handling) to the delivery to the outgoing flight (which keeps your fish cold, even through overnight layovers if needed). The entire team was friendly and accommodating, even arranging for whale watching and Glacier Bay side trips as desired. We stayed at the Majestic inn - Josh and Christina were excellent hosts. The place was immaculate and since Christina is a trained chef with close connections to locally sourced fish and meats, the eating was as good as any high restaurant in San Francisco. Sautéed scallops as an appetizer? Of course. I had never been to Alaska - going via Taylor Charters was as great an experience as I could have hoped. I will be back as soon as I am able. Greg, if you read this.....thank you so much!

I believe they can usually fit up to 13 people on one tour but we got lucky with only 7 people in our group (aka lots of space on the boat to move around). Teresa drove all of us from the port to the dock, and we were then welcomed by her son Casey who is the captain. I later learned from Teresa that Casey studied fishery in school, and boy was he knowledgeable about all the different wildlife out here in Hoonah! While on the tour, we were able to witness porpoises, bald eagles, sea lions and, of course, whales. Casey takes you to different spots where you are likely to spot whales, and we ended up seeing a whale come up VERY close to our boat! It was absolutely mesmerizing to see and to capture. Additionally, the boat itself was super comfortable, and they even provide water, hot chocolate, and various chips for you to snack on :) If you are thinking about booking a whale watching tour while in Hoonah, do it with Glacier Wind! Teresa and Casey are both amazing, and my family had a fantastic experience overall.

We saw *tons* of whales - you could tell they were working their butts off looking for them, driving us all over the bay! We even saw a mom and calf once! (Tons of bald eagles, too! No bears, sadly - they showed us a spot where you can spot bears sometimes, but it was still a bit early in the season.) Funny enough, it was about the same price as the cruise ship's whale watching group, but it's a *much* different experience going out on a boat with only a handful of people plus the crew. Great people, too - you can tell they love what they doing, showing people the bay and all the really cool sea life that inhabits it. Super comfortable boat, too. Definitely glad we chose to go whale watching with them. Only one tiny complaint - I saw reviews mentioning homemade salmon dip! Not that we exactly *needed* any more food, coming from a cruise ship, but at least on our specific trip, they only provided water and hot chocolate. Seeing a bunch of whales was obviously the main reason we were there, but I *did* also have a side goal of eating as much salmon as possible while I was in Alaska, too, so I was a tiny bit sad. Extremely minor complaint, obviously.

We arrived in Pelican, Alaska after a 45 minute seaplane ride from Juneau. That was a first for each of us. We were met at the dock by Shannon's sister Kelzie, who had a wagon for our bags. The meals, from first to last, were top notch home cooking - just like grandma used to make. The chef is Lauren, another sister and an awesome cook. Breakfast is early and Jake, Shannon's fiancee, was our Captain for the first trip. Shannon was our Captain for our second and third trips out to the Big Water. We limited out each day on halibut and caught 40 beautiful Silver Salmon. Alaska, being Alaska, had some weather that kept our seaplane from making the trip from Juneau. No problem, Shannon put us up, fed us and got us on a ferry back to Juneau. This was a trip of a lifetime for the four of us. I even caught a 56 inch halibut. I absolutely recommend Pelican Inn Charters to anyone looking for a fishing experience with great guides and a family atmosphere.

After several visits to Alaska we were looking for a unique and personalized fishing outing…read more Natalie came highly recommended around Gustavus and from friends at Glacier Bay NP - so we didn't hesitate to schedule with her. Natalie's communication was excellent in the weeks leading up to our trip and I found her personable and flexible in plans - something you don't often see with some charters. We were fortunate with incredible weather, a beautiful ride out to Chichagoff Island and a phenomenal day on the river catching salmon in an unbelievably beautiful part of Alaska. Natalie was friendly and patient and when she needed to be - direct and to the point when a bear wandered a bit close to our group. Great equipment including boots, waders, bear spray and quality rods & tackle. A great day was had by all as Natalie directed us to a river teeming with salmon. It's amazing to see nature & wildlife this way including eagles, bears, sea anemones and the crazy tides in this part of the world. Schedule for an amazing day and in full-confidence with NatVentures.
