You do not have to go to the Peruvian capital - epicenter of an increasingly acclaimed culinary renaissance - to take a bite out of great Peruvian cuisine. Nestled in El Patio Bellavista, El Tambo offers savory Peruvian plates that will tantalize your palate!
What "piqueos" (appetizers) to start with?
La Cesta de Empanadas is FIRE (as in AMAZING)! It comes with an assortment of empanadas with aji de gallina, lomo saltado, and spicy shrimp with a sweet rocoto marmalade that compliments perfectly!!
What to eat as an entre?
You cannot go wrong with the Peruvian comfort food called Lomo Saltado!! The succulent juicy mixture of beef, onions, and tomatoes will not disappoint and will leave your tummy as happy as a unicorn eating a cupcake on a rainbow!
Another magically delicious dish is the Canelones de Osobuco! This dish had the "wow" factor! It was like nothing else I had ever tried and was absolutely amazing!
I know, I know... after eating piqueos and your entre you probably think you won't have any room for dessert. And you are probably right... but you have to at least try the Suspiro Limeño De Lucuma or the Suspiró Limeño Clásico! Both are YUM!
Overall, the food was great quality and was exquisite! So why the 4 stars? El Tambo was the definition of crazy snail slow service and our server had to be reminded of things about our order (just like 90% of the service in Chile, so poor service is always expected). Also, we asked the hostess to sit us inside because we wanted to escape the summer heat. Unfortunately they did not have the AC on and it was hotter then hell inside. I think I would have caught more of a breeze sitting at a terrace table. read more
