Excellent food, typical of the Hampshire countryside. We had a local pork sausage sandwich on fresh locally made bread, cut thick by hand. The gravy on the side highlighted the strong pork flavor. Also ordered a gubeen smoked cheese sandwich, went well with the drink. Appetizers were a ham terrine and tomato soup; fresh ham and sharp tomato. For dessert, warm chocolate pudding cake, with fresh fruit in place of ice cream. Then a nice walk around the village to work it off!
The propriatrice (landlady?) was very nice and enquired often as to our needs, without being overbearing. The pub atmosphere was very relaxed, with locals dropping by for a pint. If you have a car, it's about an hour from Heathrow airport, and well worth a country drive and a good lunch. read more
