The police and paramedics are here several times a day usually for overdoses or gang shootings. Car break-ins are common. The gangs try to force themselves into apartments. There are constant knocks at the door at all hours saying in a forced rough whisper, "let me in." It's very unsettling. People are constantly begging in the parking lot and the hallways for everything. All they want is the next high. People offer to sell "everything". It's not safe to leave your apartment. It's not safe to be in your apartment. It's not safe to walk through the hallways. It's not safe to walk through the parking lot because of speeding cars and gun shots. You never know who's going to show up for dinner and parties and those who you'll never see again because of trying to attend those dinners and parties. It seems like I'm attending a funeral of a fellow resident every month due to violence here. The management won't discuss it.

The room where you enter had a kitchen and a living room with a pull-out. Then there was door which led to the bedroom with the bathroom off of it as well as a large closet. We loved that the refrigerator was full-sized, and the freezer worked well and included ice-cube trays. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom had the usual amenities. The air-conditioning unit is in the kitchen, and we found the bedroom was warm compared to the living room. However, they had a large fan in the closet, so we just put that in the door between the living room and the bedroom and it cooled the bedroom perfectly. Check-in and check-out were easy. The price was right. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

I've been a resident of Homestead for about a year now and they must be doing something right if I'm renewing my lease. When I first arrived in July of last year the staff wasn't what they needed to be and there were many a complication with my lease and experience. Fast forward to October... the staff has been replaced and they're running through everything with a fine tooth comb. The cleanup has been gradual but the property has been coming around. Yes there's still much that needs work, but they're handling it the best they can right now. I have no complaints with the property. It's newer. Priced about right for what RC has to offer. Being a military town things are usually a little more costly. With your rent you receive free basic cable, and wifi on top of it all. Bills are what you'd expect as you pay for your own water and gas. All units have their own washer and dryer, and if you're like me and had your own they'll even remove the basic units so you can install yours. My biggest pet peeve when it comes to properties like this is pet clean up, and there isn't any of that nonsense to be had here. Though they DNA test most residents look after their pooches and as long as I'm not dodging land mines I'm fairly happy. The other reviews I read hit on some things but in my experience they seem self inflicted. I give Homestead an average rating because they're that right now, but they're definitely working on above average. When it comes to apartment living be sure to keep things in mind and keep it all in perspective.

There are pets in the building, so of course there would be a pet smell, lol it was the strangest complaint I have ever heard from a landlord. Personally, I think the building strongly smells like weed and cigarette smoke because there are no non smoking policies in place. Several tenants smoke right outside the building front doors so you have to walk through it to get inside. Danielle told me they only shampoo the hall carpet every six months and I rarely hear them vacuum it. A few months ago someone threw up right outside our door and even though I let management know, the vomit stayed in the hallway for over two weeks by which point it basically got smashed into the carpet from people walking on it. Management has been terrible at responding, while I was trying to move in it took the landlord five days to run a credit check on my cosigner. It felt like she intentionally made the process as difficult and lengthy as possible. The apartments themselves are not very good considering what you are paying. Tenants are not allowed to add shelves or even use command strips. The lease states that change is available in the office for the laundry machines. This is a lie. They do not have change so you have to go to the bank or use an ATM every time you want to wash clothes. There are only three washers and dryers for an entire apartment building and the dryers always take multiple rounds to work. I will be moving out as soon as possible and suggest that future tenants find somewhere better to live.

The apartments are clean and free of odors as the landlords are very strict about smoking in apartments. Some of the apartments are beginning to show their age, but they appear to be systematically updating them one at a time. The landlords are very kind and responsive to any problems or maintenance issues and typically resolve them within a few hours, even on the weekend. As well they are empathetic with tenants, as I have run into situations with late payments by accident before. I simply called them up in advance, let them know what was going on and they were very understanding. To my knowledge, most apartments have free hot/cold water and there is always hot water and plenty of it! The grounds and public areas are well kept and clean and right next to a local park. Parking spaces are adequate and they have talked about expanding the parking lot in the near future for more parking spaces. In short: the landlords are caring and friendly, apartments are clean and inexpensive and you'll be hard-pressed to find a better deal in the local area.
