I am a high risk pregnancy patient who needs a surgery. I had an appointment scheduled and Dr…read more Michas requested I was moved to his schedule because of the high risk status. My appointment was canceled due to insurance problems. A primary insurance was popping up under my name incorrectly from an error at my previous job *with no plan or benefits listed for me* when all I have is Medicaid AT THIS MOMENT. Medicaid gave me a reference number and informed me they would cover my visit and gave a claim number to be filed too. The manager said i can't be seen until it's removed completely they might deny the claim (medicaid said they would not). No support. Reassurance. Or a spec of patient care to someone whose babys life depends on surgery. I'll be going to the Howard center where I was immediately told "we will focus on your insurance as it comes and your care first" as soon as I explained the situation. I'll be making the 45 minute drive so my baby and I are in better hands.

Yet the passion with which I despise their electronic check-in system literally cannot be overstated. I am a returning patient and have been with them for years - why do I need to fill all this out at every appt? It is so insanely time-consuming and irritating. If I've already told you before how old I was when I got my period for the first time...why would you...ask me how old I was...when I got my period for the first time every time I come in?! I get them asking whether someone is sexually active, but my number of partners? If they want to talk to me about safe sex or contraception, go ahead! But I know they don't need to know how many people I've been with to do that. Sometimes I think medical professionals ask you non-essential questions just because they can. Same thing with asking the gender of my partners. There was no option for "extraterrestrial creatures" so I couldn't even answer it honestly. (See also: this whole thing is stupid). I also don't like being asked about my marital status. If they want to ask me who can receive my medical information or who my emergency contact is, just do that instead. Moreover, they ask YOU to show up 15 mins early but then are habitually running late. I got to my 9 am appt at 8:45 and sat in the waiting room until 9:20. I've been here for 35 mins already. How are you already running late at 9 am? I get that emergencies happen and some days are crazy but this routinely happens in my appts. I had to give a urine sample and in the time it took me to do that (30 seconds? 1 min?) my nurse just...walked away. I stood around for about 7 mins just waiting for her to come back from wherever she went. At this point it's 9:25, I still haven't been weighed, haven't had the nurse do my blood pressure, and then when she leaves the exam room I know it'll take about another 15 mins for the dr to come in. I won't even see the dr until 9:45, a full hour after I got there. This is not an acceptable use of my time.
