We shared a ricotta pie with saffron sauce appetizer and a pork roll, ending with a wonderful cake dessert; our meal was so delicious and the ambiance so charming that we returned for dinner our last night. Even though we didn't have reservations and they were fully booked, Roberto was kind enough to find a spot for us -- and for the second time, we weren't disappointed. This time we started with polenta with porcini mushrooms; I had pork shank with roasted potatoes, the pork so tender it fell off the bone. My friend had the rabbit stuffed with fennel potatoes, which she declared exceptionally good. We shared a plate of roasted vegetables and had a lovely bottle of local white wine. The staff was very attentive. It's a most attractive restaurant, very affordable, with a creative and delicious menu.

All our dishes were excellent, and we washed them down with a half-carafe of the house red wine (shockingly delicious, and only €4)! We were stuffed from our feast but couldn't pass up the dolce course, a pastry stuffed with an orange, walnut, and honey filling and then sliced--apparently a specialty of Pitigliano. We also really appreciated that the restaurant's inside rooms are housed in a tufa cave, which was very atmospheric and welcome on a chilly December day. We would love to return for another excellent meal when the gorgeous patio overlooking the gorge below is open!

Down a set of stairs we came upon a beautiful outdoor garden/dining area. We dined inside, as it was quite cold out. Lovely setting, inside the tufo rock. Nice typical Tuscan menu. We ordered crostini with tartufo but received two orders and we were charged for it. It should have been complimentary since we didn't order it. I had caco e pepe and then a scallopini dish with mushrooms; and my friends and I shared a side order of spinach. All very good. We shared a half carafe of white wine. Our waiter later showed us the tunnel area below the restaurant, which was pretty neat to see. Our meal came to 26 euros each, pretty typical. I wish I had discovered this place earlier on in my trip, as it would have been lovely to have lunch outside in the garden area.

THE BEST dinner in Italy from Venice, Florence, Bologna and Montalcino dinner…read more It is tucked away and also has a hotel attached. It is nothing fancy and ran be very few people. The service can be slow since there is only one waitress, however, the genuine experience, food and atmosphere is fantastic. There is no wine list, no specials written. The chef is amazing guy, perhaps 80 years old and shows how passionate he is about his restaurant and folks enjoying his cooking. The day we were there, one of the specials was tagliatelle with fresh truffles. The chef actually comes out after the waitress brings out the food and grinds the truffle over your plate. He looked so proud and happy while doing it too. The antipasto was the best one we had (hands down) and their pasta bolognese was so good that we ordered the gnocchi as well. Everything is home made and prepared to order, hence why it takes a while. We will definitely be back again (come to this region every other year)
