There's nothing about the Talbot Heirs Guesthouse that makes it seem like a hotel. First, there's the entrance. It's a nondescript door sandwiched between a restaurant and a convenience store on Second St. It's the sort of door that, unless you're specifically looking for it, you'll miss completely. The rooms, which are all located on the second floor of the building, are less like hotel rooms and more like studio apartments. You could spend some serious time in these suites - each one has a full kitchen that come stocked with free snacks and water, and some have living rooms. They're all uniquely decorated, and most contain some kind of local art. One of the suites has a framed vintage poster from a Gladys Knight and the Pips show that owner Sandy Franck found in a trunk at her mother's house. Sandy and her husband Tom have operated the guesthouse six years. The Talbot Heirs is independently owned by their daughter, who is a producer on "America's Next Top Model". They see the Talbot Heirs as an alternative to the usual Memphis accommodations. They don't advertise beyond their website, and many of the hotel's guests come to them based on the recommendations of friends. As a result, Tom says, "We seem to get really interesting people." Based on their size and location downtown, I would have thought that rooms at the Talbot Heirs would be a lot more expensive than they are. A typical night's stay runs anywhere from $130 - $270, depending on the day and size of the room.

This is a hidden gem of a hotel located on second street downtown. I've hesitated in reviewing it for some time now as it is kind of a secret. A phenomenal one at that. Talbot Heirs has only 8 rooms. Rooms is the wrong way to describe them. It's really six very large studio apartments and two one-bedroom apartments utilized for hotel stays. They have outdone themselves with the decorating. Each room has a different decorating theme going on, all very eclectic and all unusually gorgeous. They have their own kitchens stocked with dishes and all the usual kitchen necessities plus FREE snacks, milk, coffee, tea and goodies, a living room area, a bed and usually a desk for your laptop. I always have my out of town guests reserve a room here if they can. It is the cheapest option for an upscale hotel experience in the way of Memphis. Cheap is an understatement as these rooms will only run you $130 - $270 a night. I dare you to find something bigger, or nicer for that price. Yes, this place is nicer, a lot of times cheaper, and located right across the street from the Peabody. The owners are a dream- so friendly and willing to take the extra steps to make sure their 8 guests are comfy for the duration of their stay. It's cute, it's quaint, and I don't think I could ask for a better place to stay when vacationing.

I am so happy I stayed here on our recent trip to Memphis. The owners Tom and Sandy were amazing, nice, and super helpful. They greeted us everyday to check in to see where we were going and offer up great directions, dining suggestions, or just awesome stories. We were in town for Gonerfest and couldn't have picked a better place to rest after a long night of shows in a smoky club. Cute rooms with great decorations, quirky paintings all over the place. Awesome kitchen stocked everyday with tea, coffee, cereals, granola bars and treats. Within waling distance of Beale St and across the street from the Peabody. Way less uppity than the Peabody and cheaper too! Will def stay here again whenever I am in Memphis, would never think of staying elsewhere :)

Stay here! You will not regret it one bit! We stayed for Memphis in May 2019 and couldn't have been happier with Talbot Heirs Guesthouse. We Lyfted to the location and there were cones out near the curb with signs letting us know this is the place (kinda easy to miss as you're driving by). We buzzed and Mimi came down to get us (very pretty, nice young lady). From the moment we entered we noticed the décor was tasteful and well maintained. I especially loved the artwork displayed along the hall way leading to our room. We reserved guest room 8 near the office which didn't have a balcony but still exceeded our expectations. I loved the hardwood floors that creaked a little and the quirky furnishings that added to the overall character of Talbot Heirs. Our bed was very comfortable and sheets and pillows were just as nice. We had nice soft, fluffy towels and plenty of free snacks and water. In our bathroom there was a dark colored face towel with an embordered eye on it...I wondered, what is this about? I realized this was a face towel provided for people who wear makeup! I appreciate the attention to detail and this is what sets this guesthouse apart from other stuffy hotels. Our room was cleaned every morning, bed made and supplies replenished. It was so quiet we felt like we were the only ones there! Idk..maybe some people may not like the quiet aspect but we aren't spring chickens nor are we senior citizens but we enjoyed a quiet evening or two after a long days of walking around Memphis. Overall, the whole staff was phenomenal and truly made sure we were taken care of. If I had to say one thing I think they could change that would be, I'd like a king size bed instead of a queen. Even still, we will only stay at Talbot Heirs when visiting Memphis from now on.

Beale street was maybe a 5 minute stroll away, Rendezvous was 2 minutes, and Mud Island was a 20 minute walk.

Let's say you're lost or maybe visiting old friends, maybe you like photographing old, falling…read moredown, wooden barns scattered along the two lane highways that run through America's farmland. If, for whatever reason, you end up in the "Rice Bowl of America"* needing accommodation in Pocahontas AR and you're wondering what would be, without question, the finest this town has to offer, look no further. Lesmeister Guesthouse provides a 5-star experience at a 3-star price in a quaint, yet, at best, 2-star town**. A commercial building built in 1902 was taken back and repurposed into four separate living spaces each with it's own floor plan and name. Two face Marr St just off the old , still vibrant, town square. Two more have entrances in the alley behind the building. The finest of the lot, the "Laurel", is found around back. Up a short flight of stairs leads to 1100sqft of exceptionally well crafted tri-level comfort. Absolutely stunning. Half a level down what appears to be an indestructible, steel braced, wooden staircase, is the dining/bath/kitchen area. Top notch in virtually every way. Down a another set of rough (from 1902) exposed concrete steps leads to a slightly claustrophobic bedroom (and weak wifi) area, with its king bed, which is actual ground level to the back alley parking area. The (low) door out of the bedroom provides easy loading/unloading from one's car but locks behind you. Take day trips to nearby towns like Hardy with it's historic downtown shopping area or plan a float trip on the Current River out of Doniphan MO. Graceland, in Memphis, is two hours away. Comfortably furnished, nicely decorated, heated towel rack and bathroom floor, bidet, bathroom sun light, EV charging station, local assistance if needed,...without a doubt staying at the "Laurel" at the Lesmeister makes visiting Pocahontas a much nicer experience. THANK YOU!!, whomever built this place!! 5+++++/5 *40% of America's rice is grown in the area surrounding Pocahontas. Be forewarned: the area becomes the "Mosquito Bowl" during harvest season. ** Becomes a 3-star town as a home base when exploring surrounding areas and a 4.5-star town if absolute peace and quiet is required because you're writing your memoir.
