My husband ordered two marinated pork tacos, and I had two Gorditas: one with marinated pork and the other with shrimp. We both agreed the marinated pork was decent, but a little tougher and not quite as flavorful as versions we've had elsewhere. The shrimp, on the other hand, was absolutely delicious....so flavorful and perfectly cooked. For me, the shrimp gordita really stood out and exceeded my expectations. This was my first time trying gorditas, and I was blown away by how satisfying they were. So packed with fresh ingredients, full of flavor, and very filling. When we first walked in, the waitress who greeted us didn't speak English, and the menu was mostly in Spanish. At first, I wasn't sure how we'd order, but that actually made the place feel even more authentic. Luckily, the menu has tons of photos, which helped a lot. And another very kind waitress who spoke English came over and explained each dish I was pointing to in detail. She was so friendly and patient, which made the experience even better. The restaurant itself feels casual, welcoming, and family-run, with food that's clearly made with care. If you've never had gorditas, I can't recommend them enough. Go ahead and try them, especially the shrimp!

Its such a convenient location to get to, the space is so bright and cheery, and I think they even have a drive-thru for takeout orders! I also appreciate that they have a full bar, though I haven't tried their margaritas yet. For dinner, I ordered chimichangas and my husband ordered fajitas. I need to remember that chimichangas are delicious, but I prefer enchiladas. That's on me, not them. I still enjoyed them, and ate all the leftovers I brought home! My husband really liked his fajitas too. Overall this is just a good, solid Mexican restaurant. The food has been really good both times I've visited, and the service has been super friendly. I will continue to eat here anytime I'm craving Mexican food, and will continue to recommend it to others as well!

But after a first visit while in town after a recommendation, I can confirm: they do sell food here. Most of it is good. Some of it elicits a ¿qué es eso? Who's There: The Holland crowd. On first impression, seems like a solid family spot. I'm sure you could bring the friends and family there with no problem. Maybe you bring the coworker, but I'd take the boss somewhere else. (Depends on your boss.) What to Get: Uh... maybe not the ham. Story time: I order a Breakfast Burrito. They kindly inform me they don't have sausage. That's ok -- I'm a good sailor. I order the ham as one of my included proteins. I get said breakfast burrito. It's warm. The rice is flavorful. The chorizo is okay. I add some salsa verde. I keep biting away. Then I see a hotdog bit in my burrito. Then another bit. And another. Guys, they put a whole hotdog in my breakfast burrito. B+ for creativity, but that's quite a ...different interpretation of the word "ham." According to the rest of the fam, the fajitas were good. The quesadilla tortillas might have been a little overcooked. But overall, the food is good, minus my runt of the litter. Service: Can't speak to the dine-in service, but the front counter was fairly helpful and efficient. We waited an appropriate amount of time for the amount of food we ordered to go (30 min for 6 meals at rush). Atmosphere: One of the many things I still love about the US is the infusion of cultures everywhere you look. This place is no exception. Enter Tacos Borre and find yourself in the middle of authentic Mexican dishes while dining under posters of Pokémon, Sonic the Hedgehog and other anime as you watch the World Cup on TV. God Bless America. During the dinner rush, it can be a little chaotic in there, but if you've been to Chipotle, then this is the same ball game, just with less corporate overlords and food gentrification. If the interior decor proves too much, try the two patio tables out front. Getting There: I'm not intimately familiar with this area, but it looks like the MAX bus stops on this block. There's ample free parking in front and there's a drive thru should you not want to leave your vehicle. Look, this seems like a nice spot to eat. And despite my frame of reference, I can still say this is a good enough place for tasty Mexican. I just happened to get a burrito with a hotdog chopped inside of it, that's all.

No complaints here, as the tamales were fresh and hot. I tried the three vegetarian offerings of the day--pepper and cheese, black beans and cheese, and jalapeño and cheese--plus a pineapple tamale. All were superb, especially with the slathering of some salsas on the savory tamales. I was really pleased that I could see and taste all of the ingredients. Since it was hot and humid outside, the paletas were calling to me. Peering into the freezer, I saw a nice variety of flavors, such as mangonada, tamarind, nance, and cookies and cream. I opted for the mangonada, and it was refreshing and luscious. 10/10 would get again. (Note: these weren't made in-house. The paletas came from a biz in Kalamazoo.)
