He said he's heading up to NorCal later this week, so we're already sad we won't have him next time. He kicked things off with about 30 minutes onshore, rules, safety just learning the basics and getting our balance, then it was straight into the waves. And yes, everyone actually stood up and surfed! The kids thought they knew the ocean from boogie boarding, but this was a whole new level of fun. Lots of wipeouts, tons of laughs, and those "I can't believe I just did that" moments. Eric, the owner, was awesome too, quick with texts, super helpful with any little hiccups, and just made it all easy. Such a fun, unforgettable experience. When: I went Saturday and Sunday morning at 9AM, but I'm 99% positive she has later classes. You'll have to call to find out. I was attempting to surf for quite a while, and the only standing up I was doing on my 8ft board was 'stand up comedy.' Patricia gave me a pep talk, and then gave myself and my 3 other classmates a "classroom lesson" on the sand at Mondo's. She taught the rules of the road, the hazards of the ocean and how to avoid them or how to get out of any possible scary situations. She then sized me up on a board she thought was size appropriate (9 ft), and I was standing that very same day. Amazing what a difference 1 foot will make. (I know what you're going to say, but If "that's what she said" then *she* has probably been hospitalized several times for internal injuries) I recommend you arrive 15 minutes before your lesson to talk to Patty and learn as much as you can... she's always there early to check out the ocean, the waves, the other surfers-- Oh yeah, she taught me to do that, too. Paddy was genuinely warm and encouraging throughout the entire process. She makes it feel like you're just gonna hang out with a friend and go catch some waves. Paddy first gave me helpful and important safety tips along with basic surfing instruction on the beach, and then she had her assistant Tia take me out to surf (Paddy looked to be about 8 months pregnant, hence the second teacher). But then it got weird. Feeling out of place with the group, I must have said something awkward that was misunderstood by Tom. When I asked about switching days to make up my monthly classes and to credit that I had already paid for, he disqualified me and said he no longer wanted to work with me. I was genuinely hurt. I really wanted to learn and he made me feel like I was this terrible person for saying something that was misunderstood. I still remember how bad my experience was, that I'm afraid to go out and try again . Maybe I would have "clicked better with a women instructor, but Tom was mean and hurtful.

Fast forward to the last day of camp he did not want to leave. He had a lot of good things to say about all his instructors. It was extra money to attend camp because he's not 6. It was money well spent. Camp is only a week long, they provide lunch, sunscreen, top of the line wetsuits, hats, and surfboards. I do wish they provided itinerary for the day. I missed his performance in the surf competition the last day. I highly recommend giving your child this experience. They offer scholarships and one on one lessons.
