She taught us everything we needed to train our dogs and was able to help us understand the subtle clues they were giving us. The one on one attention is great when you have dogs who are scared of others and don't want to leave the house, by training in the comfort of your own home you're able to ease the dog into things that he/she may not be comfortable with - such as leaving the house. She studied with Karen Pryor, one of the legendary refiners of positive reinforcement training in domestic animals... search her video of training a horse with a clicker! In 2005, I found myself with an unruly, headstrong 100lb 1 yr old child (American Bulldog). We found him on Petfinder, he had gone through 4 owners already before us at 1 yr old! I was in love with owning a dog like in "Homeward Bound". We now owned our Chance, but named Drake, previously Kalen, also known as Bruno and Stolfus pup#2. I digress. We had my mom over and she yelled something at me, Drake was about to eat her head off... in my secret dreams I may have thought it would be cool, but in reality I was (Oh Sheet, my dog is going to kill my mom" Melinda took pity on me and gave me a lengthy phone consult and suggested a few treat and practice with strangers exercises that have show great improvement. Previously, it's SO embarrassing to get a call at work telling you your dog child has bit another kid at doggie day care for the 3rd time and needs to be picked up immediately and can no longer return. Dottie is amazing. I brought my 2 puppies for beginner classes hoping to just have them walk on a…read moreleash without pulling/dragging me as they were at that time. I didn't think they would be capable of learning much more but I was wrong. They learned many basic commands...sit, stay, they'll drop whatever they have in their mouth when we tell them to "drop it" and so many other skills that are needed in everyday life. They are now pros on a leash but I think one of the really important things they learned was interacting with other dogs and people. When we go on walks they're not distracted by other people and they're not pulling me trying to chase other dogs. We completed Beginner & Advanced classes, I highly recommend taking both classes.

After several weeks of his training, she is not only able to walk without incident but can go off leash. She is the best trained dog in the doggie park by far. We adopted a German Shepherd about 3 months ago and even though she was able to be walked on leash it was tenuous at best. We hired Tyler and now Sasha is perfect on the leash and around other dogs and people. There is never a problem. He also got her to stop barking in the car, which we found intolerable. Since her time with Tyler she has become a dream dog and people are constantly coming up to us and saying how well trained she is. Puppy Social is great as well, it's not a dog free for all. The dogs are split up by size and temperament, this is great for dogs who might be very shy or even extremely outgoing. The trainers watch the dog interactions like a hawk and give you real time feedback on what is appropriate interactions and quickly defuse any interaction that might lead to something not positive. After I initially emailed them, I received a timely response from the owner, Walt, who setup a complimentary consultation with me. He arrived on time at my apartment, met my pugs, discussed his business and my future needs, then left me with paperwork to complete before the first dog-sitting visit. He was nice and professional. His company is also insured, so that was a bonus during my decision-making process. Walt has over a dozen employees who do dog walking/sitting, and I was assigned Kerryann who has been wonderful! I loved that I had a dedicated dog walker instead of getting a different person each time. Make sure you schedule services in as far advance as possible because they do book up. If you're a last minute person, or just knowing that sometimes things come up last minute, it may be a good idea to have a backup dog walker. That's what I did, and it worked well when unexpected trips or activities came up. Kerryann came to my apartment for a complimentary consultation as well! She watched my pugs many times when I took weekend and week-long trips back and forth to OK/TX for 6 months. She always sent me a daily text to let me know how the pugs have eaten along with their bathroom schedule (like who pooped and peed when, good detail for tracking). Sometimes she would send pictures! They are very flexible, so if you need plants watered, mail checked, daily dog pics (I didn't need them daily), that's all included with their visit fee. Their prices are comparable to local competitors ($20 for two dogs per visit), and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the staff. I highly recommend if you need a trustworthy dog-sitter in the area!
