Our in-laws came down from Sydney, so we offered them a fun-filled trip down south. They are 'car club' people. They like to get in cars and drive places. We decided not to disappoint them and set out on a journey down the Huon, stopping at various places along the way.
One of those places was the Tahune Airwalk. I didn't really think about this in advance, as I probably would have remembered my impressive fear of heights, but instead kept up the polite chatter until we reached the airwalk itself.
I took about five steps on and looked down... to see that it wasn't a solid floor. Just some nice metal grating, allowing you to see the exact ridiculous height you are at, and just how far you would fall if the walkway failed and gravity continued to operate.
While my insides turned to mush, my in-laws had a delightful time - walking around without gripping onto the rails for dear life, taking photos of the endless trees, and delightfully saying "Oh! Look how high we are!".
My husband provided me with much needed assistance to get through it (yes, I was determined) and I only spent five minutes curled in the fetal position once we were back on solid ground.
Looking through the photos my in-laws took, it was very picturesque and lovely... if you don't mind heights. read more
