The waiters were so sweet to this foreigner. The ambiance was great -- how can you go wrong in an outdoor cafe? And the prices were reasonable. We were a bit too early, clearly. We had a drink somewhere else, then made our way through the square and it was packed. We chose Bar Berto randomly, mainly because it was busy and yet had one nice table free near where we could watch all the passers-by. I think this place is known for its beers, but we were doing campari spritzes and stuck with it as we perused the menu. We ordered a mozzarella di bufala appetizer and each had a pasta. Mine was the Genovese specialty - Trofie Pasta Genovese - and my dining companion ordered a ravioli dish. Both were excellent, but the Trofie was a revelation. Just drowning in the basil pesto and the pasta pieces were so unique and the texture so perfect. We loved our meal and the service was excellent. We were helped by two different young women who seemed like international students or travelers - seemed like English was their first language. So glad we chose to luxuriate on the square - it was fun to people watch and be in such a lively place for a few hours.

Reasonably priced, good wine and beer. Great "happy hour". Pizza is delicious. Highly recommend…read morethe Genova pesto focaccia al fromaggi - so good!

My husband loves ice cream and gelato so anytime we are on vacation he wants it all the time. Tk be…read morefair he wants ice cream all the time back hone as well but unfortunately it's far to unhealthy to have so often and because of that when we are on vacation he goes hard into vacation eating. He tried several gelato locations while in town but this was his favorite. I also thought this was the best out of the ones I tried. The chocolate is amazing, it's a dark chocolate and the perfect amount of butter to sweet. I do not think every child would like this chocolate but I think most adults would. It was by far the best chocolate gelato I've ever had. My husband ordered a peanut one and the two licks I got before it was totally gone we're delicious. Each time we went back he tried different flavors. We may go back to Genoa Italy just so my husband can have THIS gelato and that's saying something .

Very helpful and prices are more than fair. Besides some bread, good cakes and cookies they had two items that we fell in love with. One is called "Il Pestarino", a house specialty. Homemade marzipan covered with chocolate and powdered sugar. It's not store-bought marzipan. Handmade marzipan is so different. And this one here is amazing. The other item is similar to a truffles chocolate praline. Really handmade production again. Wonderful and creamy filling, with a touch of some rum or something similar. Delicious. Bought a whole bunch of both to bring home. Easy to store in the fridge. They last for a while. A real great Pasticceria. Highly recommended. We will definitely be back.
